“We have committed and able partners, globally and within the region, helping us carry out our work with a heart for the community. We encourage more NSOs to do the same creating more impact in changing the lives of Scouts. Let us bridge the gap and bring Scouting closer to the communities.
Message Dr Chao, Shou-Po President APR Scout Foundation Management Committee Since November 2015, I have been honored to be the President of the APR Scout Foundation Management Committee. First, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the APR Scout Foundation members and all the donors for their generous contributions and support. I am greatly impressed by the work and continuous efforts of the Foundation to support and strengthen Scouting in the Asia-Pacific Region. For 3 consecutive years, the Foundation has extended financial assistance on the field activities of the region assisting National Scout Organizations to conduct various programs regarding trainings, seminars and workshops. These programs include environment education seminars, workshop for
adult support, youth involvement, Scouting profile, strengthening internal and external communications, risk management, and disaster response management. I am happy to note that there is a substantial increase in the capital fund and return of investment through our partnership with World Scout Foundation. To date, the fund balance is US$ 1.98 million. Further, our community-based projects involving non-Scouts in our activities are creating wider visibility on the ground. Recently, Bhutan Scouts completed the Community Mushroom Cultivation Project with our support. This project enhanced the living stan-
dard, promote health and wellness of people from Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) families. It is good to note also that we have committed and able partners, globally and within the region, helping us carry out our work with a heart for the community. We encourage more NSOs to do the same creating more impact in changing the lives of Scouts. Let us bridge the gap and bring Scouting closer to the communities. To the Foundation Management Committee members, let us continue our strong commitment to supporting more young people by sharing our time, resources and expertise in the name and spirit of Scouting.

Foundation Projects
Bhutan’s mushroom cultivation project Bhutan Scouts Association (BSA) introduced mushroom cultivation to the Shaba community with the support of the APR Scout Foundation. The Shaba community, beneficiary of the project, is situated in Paro, south-
west of Bhutan. Work started with the construction of mushroom shed by the Scouts and the people of Shaba community, including the housewives and personnel of Royal Bhutan Army.
Participants learned the different stages of mushroom cultivation: cutting the straw, soaking in cold water, steam cooking, sowing seed and packing, staking and storage of the plastic bags, watering and harvest.
Participants expressed that the techniques of mushroom cultivation is useful and will benefit their families. They considered it as their best demo community development project so far.
Mongolia Scout Shop opens in Ulaanbaatar Opening the Scout Shop in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia was a big step for the Scout Association of Mongolia (SAM) which designed this project not only to generate income but more so to provide better services to their members. With Scout merit badges available at the Scout Shop,
Scouts are more inspired to learn new skills and to update their knowledge as they work hard to earn their badges. In this way, Scouts become more engaged and better prepared to advance to the next Scout section.
“...the Foundation promotes solidarity and a deeper sense of commitment to communities.
“...the projects supported are designed to support capacity building, sustainability, develop and promote best practices, educate young people and develop leadership skills for potential Scout leaders.
