or more than 25 years as a scout leader, I have met many adults who daily put their best to make our organization, serving the Scout Movement, give the best results possible.

Thanks to this work, our organizations have strategic plans that guide their actions toward the future, through their work our organizations can manage their resources in an efficient manner, thanks to their labor accountability is carried out on time and shape, thanks to their work knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation. There is so much to be grateful to this army of adults committed to Scouting! They are a key part of our development in our longing for a better world. omo Secretario General, visité dos de los cursos de formación de Interamerican Leadership Training, que traducido al español sería el Curso de liderazgo Interamericano (ILT), celebrados en la Región - uno en Galveston, Texas, EE.UU. (27 diciembre 2014 a 2 enero 2015) y el más reciente en Guatemala (28 de diciembre el año 2015 2 de enero de 2016). Ambos eventos fueron muy concurridos - y tremendamente exitosos. Un proyecto de diez años, el curso ILT fue idea de Ricardo Wagner (Asociación de Scouts de Guatemala) y Dan Ownby (miembro del Comité Scout Mundial y Boy Scouts of America (BSA) miembro del consejo del área Sam de Houston) quiénes firmemente creen en el desarrollo de potencial de los jóvenes en la región. Uno tiene que estar allí para entender lo que quiero decir acerca del sentimiento y la energía de los jóvenes líderes que asistieron al evento. Les envío mi saludo scout a nuestras Organizaciones Scout Nacionales (OSN) que hicieron un trabajo maravilloso en la selección de los participantes. s Secretary General, I visited two of the Interamerican Leadership Training (ILT) courses held in the Region – one in Galveston, Texas, USA (27 December 2014 - 2 January 2015) and the most recent one in Guatemala (28 December 2015 - 2 January 2016). Both events were well attended – and tremendously successful. A ten-year project, the ILT course was the brainchild of Ricardo Wagner (The Scout Association of Guatemala) and Dan Ownby (World Scout Committee member and Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Sam Houston Area Council board member) who strongly believe in developing the potential of young people in the Region. One needs to actually be there to understand what I mean about feeling the buzz and energy from those young leaders attending the event. My Scout salute to those in our National Scout Organizations (NSOs) who did such a wonderful job of selecting the participants. Training young leaders who then return to their home NSOs and pass on what they have learned to others is a great investment. To the BSA and the Scout Association of Guatemala — thank you for being such fantastic hosts! I am grateful to the Messengers of Peace (MoP) Programme and the BSA/United States Fund for International Scouting (USFIS) for funding the ILT courses. The William Hillcourt Foundation has been helpful as well. I encourage NSOs in the Interamerican Region to continue to send promising young Scouts for future ILTs. And make sure that the trained leaders who return from the ILTs are given suitable roles and responsibilities within the NSO structure to contribute as a young leader. Once again, a big thank you to all for making the ILT such a remarkable success!.

¿Cómo podemos esperar un futuro brillante y más sostenible si no empezamos a preparar a nuestros jóvenes para hacer frente a los problemas globales y crear el futuro que todos queremos ver?.

Algo que es notorio en nuestra asociación y probablemente suceda también dentro de otras asociaciones es que existe mucha rivalidad entre grupos scouts. Debido a roses que algún dirigente tuvo con otro grupo en ciertas situaciones, o decisiones tomadas en algún momento que afectaron a otras personas. Esto se ha transmitido a los scouts beneficiarios y ha generado cierta rivalidad entre algunos grupos, incluso sin que ellos mismos sepan porqué son rivales. Al entrar por primera vez al curso, les pedimos a los participantes que se quitasen sus pañoletas de grupo. Días después, nos comentaron de cómo se sintieron en ese momento. “Sentía que era muy difícil despojarme de ella”, “Ver a otros scouts que ya conocías con otro color de pañoleta fue muy extraño”, “Quitarme mi pañoleta para tener que ponerme otra, y todavía de un color que no me gusta, y tener que unirme a un grupo de personas que no conozco, me hizo salir de mi comodidad”. Ver cómo esa rivalidad desapareció al cambiar la pañoleta, y que pocos sabían de qué grupo venía cada uno, hizo que los prejuicios quedasen de lado. Así se comenzó a formar una familia que convivirían por cuatro días.

E l “Entrenamiento de Liderazgo – Paraguay 2016” (ELPa The “Leadership Training - Paraguay 2016” (ELPA 2016) 2016) se llevó a cabo del 12 al 15 de agosto del 2016, en la was held from 12 to 15 August 2016, in the city of Areguá, ciudad de Areguá, Paraguay. Es un proyecto de Mensajeros de la Paz que nació de la necesidad de fortalecer las aptitudes de liderazgo de scouts miembros de la Asociación de Scouts del Paraguay, tomando como base el contenido desarrollado durante los Interamerican Leadership Training 2013, 2014 y 2015. Participaron 32 caminantes y rovers de 16 a 22 años provenientes grupos scouts de todo el país, quienes durante los cuatro días compartieron las actividades en equipos creados dentro del evento. El staff tuvo un rol protagónico para que el evento se llevase adelante con éxito. Meses antes de la realización del ELPa tuvimos una reunión en nuestra Casa Scout para aclarar ideas y formas de trabajo, conocernos, practicar y organizarnos. El staff estuvo integrado por ex participantes de los ILT, quienes trabajaron en la elaboración y ejecución del programa, invitados internacionales de Uruguay, Argentina y Estados Unidos, Consejeros de Equipo, quienes fueron seleccionados por un proceso de postulación y trabajaron muy de cerca con los participantes, y colaboradores nacionales de logística y apoyo.

Actualmente, se está trabajando sobre cinco proyectos de Mensajeros de la Paz que esperan poder llevarse a cabo en el transcurso del año; los mismos intentan buscar solución a problemáticas culturales y educativas existentes en el Paraguay de una forma novedosa, práctica y divertida, como es característico de las actividades scouts. Se proyecta en adelante la realización del ELPa una vez al año para poder llegar a más scouts y que estos a su vez puedan impulsar sus proyectos de servicio, generando cada vez más impactos positivos en la sociedad y fortaleciendo la de Mensajeros de la Paz. “Realmente fue una experiencia sumamente enriquecedora tanto en las instancias de intercambios con los participantes dentro y fuera de cada sesión , me pareció como que les podía brindar otro apoyo de un lugar distinto. El staff tuvo y tiene una gran amistad , trabajar con cada uno de ellos me hizo notar la hermandad que existe sin fronteras , simplemente compartiendo este gran estilo de vida como es el Movimiento Scout hace de tu experiencia algo maravilloso” dijo Florencia de scouts de Uruguay, Staff Internacional.

Paraguay. It is a project of Messengers of Peace who was born of the need to strengthen the leadership skills of the members of the Scout Association of Paraguay, based on the content developed during the Interamerican Leadership Training 2013, 2014 and 2015. Participants 32 venturers and rovers from 16 to 22 years from Scout groups across the country, who during the four days shared activities teams created within the event. The staff had a imporart role for sucess of the event success. Months before the making the ELPA we had a meeting in our Scout House to clarify ideas and ways of working, knowledge, practice and organization. The staff consisted of former participants of the ILT, who worked on the development and implementation of the program, international guests from Uruguay, Argentina and the United States, Counselors Team, who were selected by an application process and worked closely with the participants and national partners in logistics and support. We are working on five projects Messengers of Peace, which we hope to be performed in throught year. These try to give a solution to cultural and educational problems, with a new, practical and fun way, as all Scouting activities. It is projected to execute the ELPA once a year, to reach more scouts and at the same time to boost more service projects, generating positive impacts on society and strengthening of Messengers of Peace program. “It really was a very enriching experience both instances between the exchange with participants in and out of each session, it seemed like I could give them other support from a different place. The staff had and has a great friendship, working with everyone of of them made me feel the Scouting brotherhood has no borders, just sharing this great lifestyle as Scout makes your experience something wonderful, “said Florence from Scouts of Uruguay, InternationalStaff. R E P Ú B LI C A DOMINICANA DOMINICAN REPUBLIC L a participación, desarrollo y liderazgo juvenil son temas P articipation, and youth leadership development are de suma importancia dentro del marco del escultismo en important topics within the framework of Scouting in any cualquier país. Son, por así decirlo, las razones mismas del movimiento; la transformación o desarrollo de los jóvenes en buenos ciudadanos. Ciudadanos activos y empoderados con interés y disposición para trabajar por el desarrollo de sus comunidades.

El pasado junio, en nuestro campo escuela nacional Cuayo, se atendieron a esas mismas razones y el intereses de los jóvenes scouts dominicanos, en continuar formándose como líderes, como ciudadanos que pueden y quieren hacer una diferencia. Del 24 al 25 de junio celebramos el primer taller de liderazgo juvenil, “Domincan Leadership Training” como respuesta a estos intereses juveniles. Basado en el “International Leadership Training” el El Dominican Leadership Training, o DLT, es un taller práctico dirigido a jóvenes scouts dominicanos con deseos enriquecer su formación como líderes y agentes de cambio dentro de sus grupos scouts, comunidades y vida profesional. En su primera versión en el país, el taller contó con la participación de 28 jóvenes provenientes de distintos grupos de las regiones del Cibao y Santo Domingo, además de un staff bajo la dirección de la Oficina Scout. El taller desarrolló de manera práctica y dinámica temas como el liderazgo de servicio, la resolución de problemas en los equipos, la gobernanza y empoderamiento y participación juvenil, la planificación de proyectos, entre otros. Fue, sin duda, un evento marcado por la fraternidad, entusiasmo y alegría que caracteriza a los scouts del país y que sin duda, verá sus frutos con las acciones de estos nuevos líderes. El DLT, en conjunto con los demás programas orientados a los jóvenes adultos que ha venido desarrollando la OSN, constituye una iniciativa más donde la participación y la voz de los jóvenes, se hace cada día más fuerte.

On June, within the grounds of our national campsite “Cuayo”, these same interests of our youth, to continue their training as leaders and citizens who can and want to make a difference, where attended. From June 24th to 25th, we celebrated our very own first youth leadership workshop, our first “Domincan Leadership Training”. Based on the “International Leadership Training” the Dominican Leadership Training, or DLT, is a practical workshop for young Dominican scouts who want to enrich their training as leaders and agents of change within their scouts groups, communities and professional life. In its first version in the country, the workshop was attended by 28 young people from different groups of the Northern and Capital region, and a staff under the direction of Dominican Scout Association. The workshop addressed topics such as servant leadership, problem solving in teams, governance, empowerment and youth participation, project planning, among others. It was certainly an event marked by fraternity, enthusiasm and the joy that characterizes the scouts in the country and that certainly will pay off with the actions of these new young leaders. The DLT, along with other programs aimed at young adults, that are been implemented by our NSO, became another initiative where the participation and the voice of young people is becoming stronger. El GLT me cambio la vida, tan simple como eso. Me dio la oportunidad de empoderarme de mis habilidades, de conocer mis limitaciones para poder superarlas, de crear un mundo mejor por medio de jóvenes que están dispuestos a liderar el cambio. Quizá se escuche como un simple curso pero, en definitiva no lo es. Es imposible describir cuánto ha cambiado mi vida desde que fui participante en GLT el año pasado pero, puedo intentarlo. Hace más de un año que tuve la oportunidad de recibir uno de los cursos más completos e inspiradores del mundo, fue allí donde me di cuenta que no importa el sueño o la meta porque con determinación y empeño todo se logra, fue allí donde me di cuenta que los jóvenes somos el futuro del mundo y tenemos que empezar a ser buscar un cambio.

curso GLT, surge como una tropicalización del Interamerican Leadership Training (ILT), el cual inicialmente fue desarrollado en Houston, Estados Unidos. Uno de sus objetivos es fortalecer a los jóvenes con herramientas sobre liderazgo, conducción de equipos, solución de problemas y con un pensamiento dirigido hacia el liderazgo practico, el cual normalmente en el Grupo Scout, conlleva mucho más tiempo el proceso de aprendizaje.

The GLT course emerged as a localization of the

Interamerican Leadership Training (ILT), which was initially developed in Houston, United States. One of its aims is to strengthen young people with tools on leadership, team leadership, problem solving and focused towards practical leadership, which usually takes a lot more time to learn in the Scout Group. The course, using the scout methodology of “learning by doing”, turned into a valuable tool for associations that implemented it and a pool of future leaders who will cover the middle and upper management of the organization. Guatemala’s experience has led to the completion of 6 courses, for a total of more than 200 young people from the NSO, who have not only experienced changes in their scout group but also in their personal and professional life. One feature that has led to the success of the course, is the same as at the beginning of the scout movement, as B.P. said “for youth, by youth”. This enriched the training and filled it with a lot of youth, new ideas and a lot of dynamism.

Después de mi participación mi interés por el movimiento aumento, mis habilidades como líder crecieron y tuve la oportunidad de ser staff en el siguiente GLT. GLT changed my life, as simple as that. I got the opportunity to enhance my skills, to know my limitations in order to overcome them, to create a better world through the youth who are willing to lead the change. Maybe it sounds like a simple course, but it definitely is not. It is impossible to describe how much my life has changed since I participated at the GLT last year, but I will try. Over a year ago I had the opportunity to receive one of the most complete and inspiring courses in the world, it was then that I realized that no matter the dream or goal I possess, with determination and commitment I can achieve all. It was there that I found out that we, the young people, are the future of the world and we need to start looking for and become the change. El GLT ha generado grandes cosas en mi vida, me ha permitido crecer como persona, tanto en lo personal, como en la vida Scout, me dio muchas herramientas sobre comunicación, liderazgo y trabajo en equipo que uso en todas mis actividades diarias. Además, me ha abierto muchas puertas, me dio la oportunidad de conocer mucha gente con mis mismos ideales y crear amistades tan fuertes que incluso han traspasado las fronteras de nuestro país. Sin duda el GLT es un programa innovador y con mucho futuro, pues es una verdadera experiencia que cambia vidas, ¡Servir! GLT has generated great things in my life. It allowed me to grow as a person, both personally and in my Scout life. It gave me many tools, such as communication, leadership and teamwork which I use in my daily activities. In addition, it has opened many doors for me. It gave me the opportunity to meet people with my same ideals and create such strong friendships that even crosses the borders of our country. El haber sido invitado a participar en el curso GLT en el año 2014, fue de gran ayuda en mi vida personal y profesional, la calidad de información que recibí durante ese curso le un giro a mi educación superior, ya que opté, producto del curso, por una carrera de administración empresarial. Los conocimientos adquiridos también los he aplicado a mi grupo scout y han permitido el crecimiento del mismo. El curso GLT, recibido en el 2014, me dio un nuevo enfoque en la vida: académicamente y profesionalmente, me ha ayudado muchísimo. Creo que fue determinante para empezar a cosechar éxitos en mi vida. En síntesis el GLT es un curso muy completo, muy enfocado no solo para generar nuevos líderes presentes sino también futuros para nuestra Asociación. Being invited to participate at the GLT course in 2014, was a great help to my personal and professional life. The quality of the information we received during the course has changed my education, since I’ve chosen to study a business management career, after the course. Also, I’ve applied the knowledge that I’ve gained in my own scout group and since then it has grown. The GLT course gave me a new focus in life: both academically and professionally.
