“Who does not live to serve, does not live” Madre Teresa of Calcuta. Now these days we are so self-absorbed that we forget the importance of serving others. We are too selfish and only think about our own advantage. You only have to look around to see that everything is serving us. The sky, the trees, the clouds, the sun, the earth, the air, the sea, our body and countless other things are unconditionally available. Nature provides us with the best examples of what it means to serve. The sun gives us warmth and light wherever we are. The trees provide shade and emit oxygen in addition to other things (wood, fruit, herbal medicines, etc.). The list of what makes it possible to live our daily lives is endless. All this is supplied and “serves” us even though we are not conscious of these things, or worst still not even grateful to the Lord for them. This is the best and greatest proof of love, especially when it is given without expectation of reward. We can serve in the same way as nature. Every day we can decide to do something without expecting anything in return. It does not matter how; it can be as simple as being pleasant to those around you. We can, however, also serve greater causes by helping in some special way those in need of help. Being part of the Scout Movement is a good way of making service a way of life. Scouts all around the world try to make it a better place and this is only within their realm. Starting today, I propose you go out and look for opportunities to serve. Examine whether what you are doing is of help to others. But remember, do not do it seeking reward. Do it with love, do it from your heart, do it with commitment and see how others follow your example. Be prepared to serve RAUL SANCHEZ VACA Regional Director World Scout Bureau Interamerican Region

A MESSAGE FROM

George Carlin

The paradox of our times is that we have high buildings and low self-esteem , wider roads but narrower vision. We spend more but have less. We buy more but enjoy less. We have large homes but small families, more goods and less time. We are better educated but have less civic sense, more knowledge but less judgement, more experts but more problems, better medicine but less well-being. We drink and smoke too much. We show–off excessively and laugh too little. We get too angry and do not sleep enough. We get up tired, we drive too fast, we do not read enough, we watch too much television and rarely pray. We have a surplus of possessions but reduced values. We talk too much and love too little and hate frequently. We have learnt to earn a living but not how to live. We have added years to our life but not life to the years. We have succeeded in going to the moon and back but we have difficulty crossing the street to greet a new neighbor. We have conquered external but not internal space. We have achieved great things but not necessarily better things. We have cleansed the air but destroyed our soul. We have mastered the atom but not our prejudices. We write more but learn less. We plan more but succeed less. We have learnt to hurry but not to wait. We manufacture computers to process and disseminate more information but communicate less and less. We eat quickly and digest slowly. We are taller but shorter in character. We have made huge economic gains but retain superficial relationships. These days we have two incomes but more divorces, luxury houses but broken homes.

These are times of rapid travel, disposable nappies, discarded morals, one-night stands, obesity, and pills for everything from happiness to pacification to even death. These are times in which to seek escape with little in store. These are times when you can receive a message and choose to share its contents or simply erase. Remember to spend time with loved ones as they will not always be there. Remember to be kind to those who care as this person will soon mature and distance themselves from you. Remember to give a heartfelt embrace to loved ones as this will cost you nothing. Remember it costs you nothing to tell your partner and close friends that you love them. A kiss and an embrace can heal a hurt when given sincerely. Remember to hold the hand of your loved one and treasure the moment as one day this person may no longer be with you. Find time to love and talk and share your most intimate thoughts. Always remember…”Life is not measured by the number of breaths but by its special moments.” Colaboration from Jose Luis Santiago Orta Mexico

Super-Scout!

ADVENTURE

To become a staff member of the International Scout Centre at Kandersteg is a simple dream and a short prayer but a complicated matter when it came to my home, group and province. I had been mulling over this dream since 2008 and when a rover from Valle de Santiago (Alicia) returned from having had this experience, I decided my farewell to my crew after twelve years as a scout would be something spectacular. I am amused thinking back when I told my mother I was going to Switzerland after having just read the conditions. The selection process is very simple (once the paper work is compiled and sent in on time). I applied for the spring season and my first experience was an acknowledgement thanking me and explaining that all the places had been filled but with a postscript enquiring whether I would like to come in the summer. I did not think twice and immediately accepted. I left home on July 10th with more things in my head than in my suitcase. This was my first time out of Mexico, my first venture of this type, and, no doubt, it will not be the last (Mum, please ignore this!).

I arrived at Kandersteg at the same time as 32 others wondering, “What am I going to do? Who will I meet? Who are they?” Although, at first we spoke 32 different languages with 32 distinct customs, we all came to the same conclusion that we would spend the best three months of our lives. For the summer season, the work was dividided into departments: the programme, chalet services and camping. Thanks to this diverse team the centre worked marvelously. During the weeks of training, one had the opprtunity to work and learn about everything and so we did not miss out on anything. After the process of selection by lots, I was assigned to the camping team and that was marvelous. It is like three months in EEAS camping (Mexican scout camping)! Greeting everybody in different languages, different foods, different uniforms, music and cheers and every imaginable distraction (within of course the framework of one’s work). Of course the camp fires were best and the perfect ending to the week. Thanks to these, everyone sings and recalls the “Alacatonga”. Scouting allows one to realize one’s dreams and the best is that it is not done alone, given that colleagues are friends for life, accompanying each other and sleeping in damp clothes, as those familiar with the outdoor life will know. That is how the time pased by. I lived unforgettable experiences together with 74 people from 32 different countries. For three months we were a family and, when the moment came to pack up and go home, we knew we were saying farewell and not good-bye. While I am writing this, a new season is beginning and a new family is on its way. I hope this article will arouse your interest so that more scouts, like you, will have this experience and not just read about mine. “If you can dream it, you can live it” Gabriela Calderón Group 5 Celaya Guanajuato Uno México

THE BENEFITS OF EATING FRUITS

bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. Actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

Dr Stephen Mak is a friend of mine . He told me he treats terminally ill cancer patients with "un-orthodox" ways and many patients recovered. He explains to me that he has used solar energy to clear the illnesses of his patients. He believes in natural healing for the body against illnesses. Fruits and juices are some of the strategies to heal cancer. As of late, Dr. Mak’s success rate in curing cancer is about 80%. Cancer patients shouldn't die. The cure for cancer is already found. It is whether you believe it or not. We all think eating fruits mean just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat them. What is the correct way of eating fruits? If you eat fruit correctly it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supply you with a great deal of energy, assist in weight loss, and other life activities. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so. In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil. So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look! KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange. APPLE: Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke. WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. ORANGE: Sweetest medicine. Eating 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, prevent & dissolve kidney stones, as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer. STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals. GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes. FROM THE NATIONAL SCOUT ORGANIZATIONS

XII NATIONAL SCOUT CAMP IN

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

As part of the activities celebrating the centenary of the Dominican Scout Movement in 1914, everyone had an unforgetable experience from 21st to 24th January 2011 at the XII National Scout Camp in Jamao al Norte in Espaillat Province where 800 young people under the tilte “Change to Grow” enjoyed different activities relating to the growth of the Scout Movement; the sense of community, creativity, comradeship, sociability and spiritualism. As part of the programme for the young ones, emphasis was placed on self expression and control of anger, adventure sports, camping skills and group reflection on the meaning of the Scout Promise and law…amongst other things. This camp was supported by The Dominican Republic National Committee for Emergencies, The Domican Air Force and national companies. For some visitors, the most impressive feat was the ability of the young scouts to organize a small town with all the necessary amenities for four days maintaining order and cleanliness and returning the borrowed land as found or in even better condition.

MY FAMILY TAKES A TREE The Association of Scouts of Paraguay, on the occasion of its anniversary month and following the policy decison regarding environmental conservation by the Millenium Development Objectives, developed a simple and innovative idea whereby the Scouts and the community, especially its younger members, engaged in tasks relating to saving the planet. The plan consisted of a massive tree planting exercise with children, adolescents, schools and neighborhood colleges and 1000 local families. The commitment was simply to plant a tree in a garden or path and for a family to look after it thereby acknowledging nature and cooperating with improving the environment. The general aim was to plant trees in 22 neighborhoods where the Scouts are active; to visit and plant trees in a 1000 homes; and to succeed in planting a total of 22,000 trees

MESSAGE FROM THE SCOUT YOUTH NETWORK OF HONDURAS TO YOUTH PARTICIPATING IN THE 11th WORLD SCOUT YOUTH FORUM IN BRAZIL. I have the honor to write some words to all of you, participating in the 11th World Scout Youth Forum. I have had the opportunity to meet some of you before and share together great experiences and, even though there are others I did not meet yet, I have the certainty that you will be there to help Scouting, contribute new ideas and enrich our educational program. Our programs and styles can reflect our personality and creativity, and God's purposes reflect his love and his plans for those who live it. Joy and love are the wings to great deeds and there is always time to walk by although there is no place to go. No matter where we were born and no matter the skin color, according to the ideal of Baden Powell, our mission is just one, belongs to everyone and everyone must comply to it. Don’t be trapped by the dogma of living with the results of the thinking of others nor let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And, most important, have the courage to follow your heart and your intuition. They somehow already know what you really want to be. We live in a memorable century of great political, economic, and even social changes. The map of the world has undergone decisive changes to the destiny of humanity and, what will Youth do? Be realistic but demand the impossible because this action is what allows us to overcome divisions and to find solutions. For the first time, humanity is a single globalization and speaks all the languages simultaneously. All people are brothers and their struggles and hopes blend and belong to everyone. In this global confrontation, in this battle of classes and systems, colonized or dependent countries, in this war between the young and consumerism which is given by the society, youth play a fundamental role. But what can Scouting offer to a healthy youth and, at the same time, offer something to an indifferent youth? The better question is "What should I do to make the movement grow?" Although this is an ambitious question, it is not the most important. I answer: First tell me why there is a Youth Movement, by youth, for youth? Maybe that's the most important question. We are rewriting this story. And this is not surprising. All people are brothers, and the victories and defeats of one are victories and defeats of all. Some watch our process carefully, but this process began to dawn over a hundred years. They watch us to see what we do, how we do, how we defend ourselves from attacks from within and outside the country. Many still don’t perceive yet that this process offers to all the opportunity of being actors and protagonists of our own surroundings in which we develop. And, nevertheless, we are not even satisfied with everything that we have done so far. It is because young scout people are nonconformists. Because a thought that stagnates is an action that doesn`t produce. But all this is only the beginning! Bela Caballero, National Comunicator Honduran Scout Youth Network

FLEUR DE LIS Straight Way Parts of the Scout Promise

Fraternity Scout

Articles of Scout Law

Dedication and Labour

The meaning of this word in French is lilly. The flower is used in French heraldry and has a long history. It is also called amacayo (in Spanish). For Scouts it has great signifance. From the beginning of the movement it has symbolized the “scout spirit” and “north” .In antiquity it was used in ancient maps and for the Scouts it is a symbol for not loosing the sense of life.

The three petals represent the three fingers of the scout salute and remind us of the three parts of the Scout Promise: the middle petal for God, the left for helping your neighbor and the right respect for Scout Law.

In nearly every country where there are Scouts, the Fleur de Lis has been adopted with some variations as the insignia for the Movement when Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting, wanted an emblem to generate a sense of unity. It was first used by scouts in a camp at Brownsea on August 7th 1907 thereby giving further mportance to the ensignia. It is now used by nearly all Scout Groups, Federations and National Scout Organizations.

The two stars and the five points represent life in the open air, the ideal of truthfulness and knowledge of scouting, as well as the 10 articles of the Scout Law.

The line in the middle petal is the needle of the compass signifying for Scouts correctness in life.

The ring which joins the three petals symbolizes the brotherhood of scouts and is reinforced by the cord surrounding the fleur de lis. The cord connects both ends of the knot symbolizing dedication and commitment to work.

GREEN PLANET BIODIVERSITY IN MEXICO “.then the world was created for them. Thus in truth creation was made from earth. Earth, they said, and instantly it was made!” Popol Vuh

I believe one of the interesting topics relating to the concern over our planet is biodiversity with its consequent dangers to animal extinction, the felling of forests and climate change. Put simply the future of the earth and humanity is dependent upon us. It was as recently as the I980s that the situation was described by the marine biologist Elliot E. Norse as biological diversity. Later at a conference in Johannesburg in 2002 it was decided that 2010 would be the International Year of Biodiversity whose propositions would be: 1.Raising concern about the importance of safeguarding biological diversity. 2. Raising awareness of what has been done so far 3. Alerting people, governments and international organizations as to the problem. 4. Promoting solutions to reduce the threat It appears to me that Scouts have an important role to play in this development. I believe that Scouting could develop a campaign along the lines of “Climate Change” carried out by Mexican scouts in Cancun. The web page is: www.biodiversidad.gob.mx/biodivertitas/biodivertitas.php One does not necessarily have to be a Scout biologist to get involved. It is essential for Scouts to share responsibilty for protecting nature. We need to set up study groups to spread understanding. I want to believe that it is not too late and, although the situation is serious, urge our politicians to radically change their policies with regard to environmental measures. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA... In 1909, Chicago publisher William D. Boyce lost his way in a dense London fog. A boy came to help him and, after guiding the man, refused a tip, explaining that as a Scout he would not take a tip for doing a Good Turn. This gesture by an unknown Scout inspired a meeting with Robert Baden-Powell, the British founder of the Boy Scouts. As a result, William Boyce incorporated the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910 and was chartered by the United States Congress in 1916 to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Community-based organizations receive national charters to use the Scouting program as a part of their own youth work. These groups, which have goals compatible with those of the BSA, include religious, educational, civic, fraternal, business, and labor organizations; governmental bodies; corporations; professional associations; and citizens' groups. They become “partners” in delivering the Scouting program to young people. This unique relationship allows the Chartered Organization to select its leaders for their Scout group while using the Scouting program exactly as it is intended by the BSA. Programs: Tiger Cubs is a year-round family- and home-centered program that encourages the ethical education. Cub Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through fifth grade (or who are 8, 9, and 10 years old) Ninety-five percent of all Boy Scouts participated in Cub Scouting at some time. Webelos Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys. Boy Scouting. A year-round program for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. Varsity Scouting. An active, exciting, year-round program for young men 14 through 17 built around five program fields of emphasis: advancement, high adventure, personal development, service, and special programs and events. Venturing. A year-round program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills. Volunteer Leaders serve at all levels of Scouting in more than 300 local councils, 30 areas, and four regions, and nationally with volunteer executive boards and committees providing guidance. The BSA has three national high-adventure areas, and all three are unique. The Northern Tier National High Adventure Program offers wilderness canoe expeditions and cold-weather camping; the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base offers aquatics programs in the Florida Keys; and Philmont Scout Ranch offers backpacking treks in the rugged high country of northern New Mexico. Volunteer leaders may attend the Philmont Training Center each summer for a weeklong training conference. A fourth national high-adventure base – the Summit Bechtel Family Scout Reserve – will be the permanent home to the BSA National Scout Jamboree, in addition to serving as a high-adventure base. This will also serve as the location for the 2019 North American World Scout Jamboree, a joint venture to be hosted by Scouts Canada, the Scout Association of Mexico and the BSA. 39th WORLD SCOUT CONFERENCE, CURITIBA, BRAZIL 2011 The beautiful city of Curiba was the site for the main Scout Assembly. This was the first time the World Scout Organization had met in South America. The UEB (Union of Scouts in Brazil) acted as hosts for such an occasion. The warmth of the hospitality made one feel at home. Sporting their green shirts and always smiling they were very welcoming. The Conference location was impressive and had all the necessary facilities which helped make the occasion a great succes. There were many subjects discussed in both the study groups and plenary sessions with a number of resolutions. A summary follows: New Members---the conference welcomed the Association of Belorussian Scouts to WOSM. WOSM Registration Fee System ---a new system was agreed which will come into force in the fiscal year 2019-2020. The “new” cause for the Scout Movement---“Education for Life” with emphasis on Leadership. World Scouting strategy---The conference agreed to mantain 7 strategic priorities for the Movement to help National Scout Organizations form their own plans at local, national and world levels. Educational methods---Reaffirmed education as a priority at all levels. Youth level decision participation should be introduced at all levels---It was announced Scouts should be involved, not based on age, but on ablilty and experience.

Opportunities for young people should be

identified at all levels. The World Scout Youth Forum ---It was decided that at the next World Scout Conference there would be a special session to discuss the recommendations from the Forum. World Policy for Adults in Scouting---A new document

was approved for the Scout Movement that

encourage National Scout Organizations to implement it. Strengthening of the scouts symbol worldwide.---The Conference encouraged all National

Scout

Organizations to incorporate the World Scout Emblem on uniforms and on all promotional materials so that each one is adopted at the national level. Strategic alliances between OMM and community groups, the UN and NGOs---The conference encouraged entering alliances with other NGOs who shared Scout Values, Youth, peace, and security in external relations. Again encouraged members of the movement to bear in mind the need to preserve Scout Values, participate in society, and improve the conditions of youth. Response to emergencies---The conference emphasized the need to be ready to respond to national and international emergencies and to cooperate with brother organizations.

TOOLS FOR OLDER KIND (VENTURERS AND ROVERS)

PART 1

In this section we want to address Venturers and Rovers to provide workto those over 15. Beginning with an article on work projects written some years back by Marcos Peralta and Fabiana Orellano, both of whom are Argentinian scout educators. Are you a little tired of not knowing how to initiate certain projects? Are things not explained so well in the manual and forms? And, above all, there are no doubt some who take the view that, having worked with boys and girls over many years, they know everything‌. Well, friends, many know how to do things but few know how to explain what they know.. Furthermore, some say they can explain in the same way as you say you can do. The truth is we are all different and not better than the manuals. The importance of these documents is: a) They do not exceed two pages, b) They aid at two levels. Nothing more and nothing less. The first explains understanding your section and the Project which divide into three phases. The first stage is when the section does not understand anything either because you are new or they have just entered the movement. It is also possible nobody is really interested. This is not so important. The young (whether cubs or Rovers) need to mix, be friendly and understand the need for teamwork. Thus, do not upset them, make it fun and integrate them. The second stage starts more or less after three months when the young are getting tired of doing the same thing (chats, the same routine, games and practice). This is the moment to get started. Now is the moment to emphasize the importance of seeing things through to the end. In other words, for the young it is an initiating experience in learning which the most important thing to complete a goal is. It is more than likely that the young at this moment will be a little drained: put things right, set targets and renew their interest by diverting

their attention with games etc. At this point the group will then become more focused on the project. The children and you will generate proposals, investigate, plan, meet up in little groups to think and evaluate. Learning to do all these things can be tricky so do not make them “run before they can walk. The third stage begins when you and your group have nearly reached the end, probably about the anniversary of the project. This is the time when they are talking about courses and documents and the Project is becoming a reality. In other words, the young will have a sense of achievement. It is also probable that they will have new ideas and ambitions such as mountain hiking or going to summer camp. This will give confidence to succeed and generate commitment. It is important that you establish at this point whether the project was over ambitious in terms of their capability and you report on its success clarifying any proposed changes if it did not meet its objectives.

The project = an end in it self

The project = a means to accomplish things

Sections with less than a year old

Sections with more than one year old

Project as an experiment.

Project as a tool.

Typically items are boring or limited project.

The project themes are made much more interesting and challenging.

In the Fund, the group is more interested in playing to projects to achieve something concrete. What is valuable is the process (how we do?).

The group is more interested in playing to do things and achieve goals more concrete. What is valuable is the content. (we do)

LUC PANISSOD VISITS ECUADOR The Secretary General of the World Scout Movement (WOSM), Mr. Luc Panissod, paid a courtesy visit to Ecuador at the invitation of Dr. Oswaldo Navas, President of the Association of Scouts of Ecuador. His visit lasted three days during which he followed a tight schedule meeting officials, participating in meetings with authorities of the city and the country, amongst others. His visit gave the members of the Movement a boost to their vision of Creating a Better World. Mr Luc Panissod’s visit started with a meeting of the team at headquarters where he was informed of the structure of the organization and each member gave a brief account of the functions, activities, successes and challenges. Later in the city of Latacunga he attended a meeting with 70 Scout leaders from the different regions of the country. He also had meetings with the media, including Radio Tarqui. Later, he visited the newspaper EL Comecio at which he answered many questions about Scouting. Finally, he was welcomed at Radio Catholic who invited him to talk about the vision of the Scout Movement and how it develops values.

In the protocol area of the Municipality of Quito, Luc Panissod was received as a distinguished guest by the Mayor of the Metropolitan District and given the keys of the city who exalted the work of the Scout Movement in the area of climate change. In the Carondelet Palace he was received by Economist Rafael Corre, President of the Republic. Luc highlighted and exalted the work of the Ecuadorian Scouts affirming that the Movement did not seek donations but additional suggestions especially with regard to social projects which would help Scouts fulfill their mission. Included in the agenda in Ecuador was a meeting with Rovers, Venturers and business men that could help accomplish the Scout Movement’s aim to educate and develop values in children and Ecuadorians. Mr. Panissod had an important meeting with the Program of United Nations for Development and spoke about the objectives of the Millenium and the need to spread the word to achieve the aim. He listed a number of Scout Projects which have been jointly carried out with UNICEF, ILO, WHO, and UNV in programs relating to sexual abuse, sexual health, and reproduction, prevention of VIH-AIDS, vaccination programs and prevention of child labor. The visit ended with a declaration to construct and work jointly on projects.

FUTURE EVENTS XIX CENTRAL AMERICAN ROVER SCOUT MOOT FROM 2 TO 10 JANUARY 2012 The XIX Central American Rover Moot is an educational event designed for Scouts age 16 to 22 from National Scout Organizations and members of Inter-American Region of WOSM. The theme of the Central American Rover Moot is “DARE YOU” which is an aggressive challenge to those who have the skills relating to change and opportunity experienced from the Moot program. The challenge relates to different aspects of the environment---economic, climate change, social change, science and cultural and expounding defense of the planet. The mixing of themes repesents living aspects of the world in communion with the scout interest in nature and the outdoors offering youth many opprtunities to experience, in a practical way, the concerns of Scouts. The range of opportunities will mean working on one’s own as well as in teams and on global projects. T As proclaimed by our founder in his great Rover document “ROW YOUR OWN CANOE” which is an invitation to personal or team adventure and a 21st century challenge in which every young person can discover and rediscover a life enhancing Project.---the Project “DARE YOU”. NEW HOSTS In 1977 and 1996 Panama was the location of the IV and XIII Central American Rover Moot. Panama and every member of the National Association of Scouts were delighted to be your hosts.

DOCUMENTARY OF THE SCOUT MOVEMENT A documentary was made about the Scout Movement at the end of last year produced by VIVAC Documentary with an amazing introduction. The documentary shows part of the activities we provide to citizens and how to live and adapt to the outdoors in each country according to their traditions. If you are a Scout, you will greatly enjoy and will be absorbed while those who are not Scouts, it is a good way to learn about the movement, its principles and fascinating history. The documentary is called “Explorers” and is online free via youtube.com or MegaVideo. Look-up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eiRQFAobeY

WALT DISNEY AND SCOUTING The genius of animation, Walt Disney, was definitely a great admirer of the Scout Movement .In the 1930s and 1940s through newspapers and articles he helped in linking Scouts to many of the personalities he created. There are two examples of sets of postal stamps which were issued commemorating “Disney Scouts”. The first appeared in the film “The good Scouts” was used as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Donald Duck and deals with first aid. The second is seen in “AMERIPEX 86” and shows Donald handing over a stamp collection to Huey, Dewey, and Louie (to whom is not exactly clear) in a very scout ceremony (Dominica Island).

Bear Grylls - MAN VS WILD Did you know that Edward Michael Gryll, better known as Bear Grylls, the protaganist in the television series “Man vs Wild” that at the age of eight he joined the Scout Movement as a cub and on 11th July 2009 Grylls was named Chief Scout in the UK from the request of British Scouts? He is the 10th Chief Scout in the UK and the youngest since the creation of the position by Baden-Powell in 1920. Grylls has undertaken all types of expeditions around the world on land, sea and air. The root of his great popularity stems from his use of the title “beargryll”, symbolic of “all territory” and is applied indiscriminately to people and objects.
