Community Services
Enhancing Independence Focusing on what you can do rather than what you can’t do.
What is Enhancing Independence? For older people the meaning of ‘independence’ varies from person to person and situation to situation. ECH understands that you value your independence and we can support you to regain as much independence as possible within our Enhancing Independence model of service.
All ECH services are provided within our Enhancing Independence model of service. We recognise the things that you can still do and aim to build on your strengths rather than simply doing things for you. Our friendly staff will work with you in areas of your life where you may feel that you need some assistance. At ECH, Enhancing Independence means that you are encouraged to set your own goals for what you want to achieve. Our staff can then work with you to develop an individual assistance plan, tailored to your needs, based on what you like doing and what you would like to get back to doing. With your input, we can develop creative, flexible services to optimise your quality of life and wellbeing. ECH can support you with activities or tasks that are important to you, which may include things from a physical, social, spiritual or psychological perspective. Enhancing your independence means that you may not need ongoing services or may need a reduced level of services over time. As you are able to do more for yourself, your dependence on services will reduce, allowing you the independence to live actively in the community for as long as possible. This is a unique model of service that is available to all ECH clients. Please speak to an ECH staff member about Enhancing Independence and how it can apply to you.
Our clients have reported benefits to their overall wellbeing and their delight in being able to work towards goals which they may have previously thought unachievable.
Fees and charges Standard fees apply for community packages and/or any other normal charges associated with ECH services. There is no additional charge for services provided under Enhancing Independence. However, referrals are sometimes made to other services that may charge. All costs related to such referrals will be discussed with you.
Enhancing Independence – focusing on what you can do rather than what you can’t do.
