Some of the top names in comedy are supporting Hot Bed, a great initiative to support and develop local acts at the beginning of their careers. Worthing Theatres has teamed up with Mark Kelly, comedian and writer, to give support slots to some fabulous comedians, writers, performance poets and singer-songwriters at these great nights of entertainment. Mark, the “unsung hero of alternative comedy, also acts as compere for each Hot Bed event. From his years with the Merseyside Poetry Circus, he now combines his long-standing writing partnership with Jo Brand with solo work, including regular radio appearances, teaching comedy and adding to his two thousand plus performances.

After covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins, “The King of Edinburgh” (List) is in a frivolous mood with this show about daftness, whether the term “cool comedian” is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa and how Herring’s whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at 16. Can he revisit the joke thirty years on or will it smash his old bones? richardherring.com
