Introduction Themepass is a mobile

application that connects people with their local gyms and helps people to find the best exercise class to fit in with their busy lifestyles.

User Research I want to find out that what the main reasons are that make people go to gym. How does the gym they choose associate with their lifestyle? How do they schedule their time for gym? Do they actually like going to the gym or just go because they think they should?

Research Questions. Why do you go to gym? Do you go to the gym alone or with others? Do they fit into the same demographic as you, are of the same age or have the same job? What is your favourite exercise class or do you just use the gym equipment? Where is your gym? Is close to your house? Do you go to multiple locations for your exercise?

When do you go to gym? what time of day do you prefer? how often do you visit to gym? How do you travel to the gym? How much does it cost? How do you pay? how do you book your gym classes or sessions?

I got the opportunity to

7 people

talk with who have a gym membership or go to gym on spec. They come from both Bangkok and London. These are some of the insight I gleaned from these interviews;

I plan ahead before I go to gym.

I am passionate about great tasting food.

I am aware of brand name gyms, facilities and services.

I like my trainer. I will go to any class that she teaches.

I go to the same gym same class and same time. Time is the most important for me.

User Research

I love Yoga classes and detest going on a treadmill

I prefer not to travel to the gym. Location was a major factor in my choice of gym.

I don’t mind to go to gym alone. It doesn’t bother me if I have a companion or not.

I prefer to try to work out at different gyms but it must close to my home or work and the facilities must meet my standards.

User Research

Personas From my research I have created four Personas which illustrate the key needs of gym users.

User Research I always book my weekly exercise classes and go to the same class at the same time.

I have to plan my weekly exercise schedule as I have little spare time with my job. I prefer to attend gyms of the highest standard and am happy to pay extra for this.

Alice 29 Female Marketer

Alice is a very serious and active gym member. She likes yoga and pilates but hates the treadmill. She always plans her sessions in advance and go to a gym near to her office

I pay 50£/ month for a 1 year commitment. I like Yoga. I also go to Inferno, circuit training, Tabata and Zumba sometime. When I always go to the gym alone and go to the same classes at the same time and on the same day every week. I would love to go to yoga every day but my gym doesn’t offer daily yoga classes.

Where I want to exercise in the evening and at the weekends as well but I don’t want to pay more for this. I also practice Pilates at home. I plan ahead and mark the classes on my calendar which I can attend every week. WhyI have 3 main reasons for going to the gym. I want to relax, lose my belly fat and my long term goal is to maintain my new body.

Who I am an accountant. What I am a member of a gym that’s close to my office. I pay 120£/ month. When I go to my gym 2-3 days a week and take classes on a further 2 days. I would like to join more but I simply don’t have the time. Where I can enjoy my workout at multiple locations but they are all a long way from my home and office. Why I joined this gym because it is new, clean, offers good facilities and service and has a great atmosphere. It also also provides

a lot of classes to complement my workouts.I want to keep fit and stay as healthy as I can. I love my trainer. She is an incredible motivator and I go to as many of her classes as I can. I would say, she is one of the main reasons why I go to this gym and if she moved I would follow her. I would be interested in joining another luxury gym but my trainer keeps me coming back to this one.
