hile we were standing in line eagerly awaiting to purchase our prom tickets, we might not have realized how lucky we were to have this event. A year ago, students had just received the news that there would be no prom for the Class of 2021. There was also no Film Fest and no student cheering section at football games. However, with the optimistic outlook that COVID will soon be behind us, the senior Class of 2022 could finally enjoy the year we have been looking forward to since 2018. Even before the COVID pandemic, the Class of 2022 experienced unprecedented changes in our academic and social lives. From the time we were in elementary school through our last weeks as seniors, one constant factor has been change. We were one of the first groups of kids to be introduced to iPads in elementary school and laptops in middle school. We grew up in a digital world, honing our social media skills and connecting in a way unique to our generation. We have grown up with

the same TV shows, movies and trends. In elementary school, we all had our favorite Disney Channel shows and online Cool Math Games that took over our childhoods. By middle school, we were consumed by microtrends such as fidget spinners and the wave of social media, as many of us had gotten our first smartphones around this time. With an upbringing of technology and unlimited information, we have taken our knowledge and transformed it, making it our own. Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok encouraged us to explore our creative side and have fun participating in trends that fostered a connection — even when we couldn’t see each other in person. We discovered hidden talents for art, music and other passions that we might not have had the opportunity to explore before. How has growing up in a digital setting affected us? We learned more about one another. We grew to understand our differences and how to overcome them. Inclusion and diversity became a big part of our class’ personality. According to a survey conducted by Pew Research Center, Gen Z is the most “racially and ethnically diverse” and

“most-educated” generation compared to any other. In tandem with being open and inclusive with our classmates, we also learned more about our mental health. Our class was one of the first to receive mental health sessions as part of a school-mandated curriculum. All these new concepts paved the way for us to succeed in great capacity and get the most out of our school year. At DP, we are No. 2 in the county for Super Scholars (those accepted in the top 20 colleges and universities in the nation), with 16 seniors earning this title. With COVID nearly in the rearview mirror, we could take advantage of an in-person learning experience and the much-anticipated senior rites of passage such as Homecoming, spirit week, and prom that previous classes missed. Athletic games were once again filled with cheering students, resulting in more state championship victories in our favorite sports such as basketball, flag football and girls wrestling. We learned to appreciate these things because we realized that they were not guaranteed. The bonds we formed this year are more

meaningful because of our previous isolation. It was not an easy journey. Virtual learning introduced a new challenge of trying to find community service opportunities since everything was shut down. While we were at home, we lost the sense of school spirit, academic drive and student involvement. Even though it was a struggle, student clubs and organizations such as SGA showed initiative by encouraging member participation once we were back in person. Now, we are nearly full-functioning and back in our element. As a class, we are constantly learning to look at things with a fresh perspective. This stems from our unexpected couple of years in quarantine, where we were limited in what we could do. But this is where we learned to adapt to our situation and create new ways to stay connected. In summary, the thing that makes our Class of 2022 unique is our versatility. Instead of accepting defeat, we took our high school experience as a challenge and were able to bounce back from isolation to reconnection.

I wouldn’t want to be cliche, but time really did fly by. From being freshmen who were intimidated by our large campus and new faces (and) feeling lost to becoming seniors who felt like we finally ruled this school, we grew, changed and built character to make us the people we are today. And as we take a moment to recall those days — from dressing up for spirit week and getting weird stares to going to our school dances and dancing the night away, — despite all the awkwardness, we can now look back and laugh. But I won’t lie and say that high school was always full of fun and laughter. There were days we didn’t want to be here, and we were stressed with our classes, but that’s exactly what makes this graduation special. We have worked day and night, sometimes doubting ourselves, but we pushed through and always gave our best. As this day comes to an end and we are taking a step forward to start a new journey, I want everyone to remember who they are and what they have become. We might not have the same path in life, but we are all unique and worthy. And regardless of how cheesy this might sound, remember to never doubt yourself. We might not know right now all that life has to offer, but if we continue with our head held high, we can find ourselves feeling confident in who we are. Life isn’t a race nor is it supposed to be, so take everything in — the good and bad days — and relish these moments because time never goes backwards.

At some point today, I hope we all thank our parents, siblings, teachers, friends and whoever we feel supported us throughout these years. As much as I want to take credit for being here giving this speech, it honestly wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my parents and brother. I couldn’t be more appreciative to my family. So to my mom, thank you for always being there day and night, for pushing me but never burning me out. For being my No. 1 supporter and having confidence in my abilities. Thank you to my dad for never questioning my choices and trusting in me even when I doubted myself. For giving me your support, both emotionally and financially. Like a child learning how to walk, you both always stood behind me in case I fell. I’m truly grateful for everything you both have done for me, the sacrifices you’ve made and the love you’ve given me throughout my life. Lastly, thank you to my brother for being the Luigi to my Mario, for making me laugh when I am sad and for always having my back. And even though (we) might

be polar opposites, north and south, day and night, we have a bond that is unbreakable even with the greatest force. But most importantly, thank you for being the best role model. Seriously, most of us don’t realize it, but we are setting an example for our younger sibling by being here at graduation. Five years ago, my brother presented his speech and that moment became one of my biggest motivations to continuously push myself. Today, as we walk across the stage, I want everyone in the audience to remember these faces. We are a very talented and exceptional group. We are the past, we are the present, and we will be the future. We are future doctors, lawyers, engineers, actors, musicians, so please don’t count us out, but instead count on us. Believe in us and we will set the bar up higher for generations to come. This day is bound to be filled with emotions for all of us. Relief to have finally graduated, excitement to start a new chapter, or the nostalgia that high school might not have been perfect, but I believe we are going to miss it. And while we go our separate ways, I think it is important to remember that we will always be connected. And so to my fellow classmates, when you leave here, remember what you have accomplished and the people who have inspired you, because today, you have become an inspiration for others. — Vanita S. I’d like to recognize our uniquely own teachers and staff. On behalf of my classmates, we thank you for everything you have done and for teaching us so much in our curriculum and life as well. We sincerely thank you and appreciate you for molding us into the young adults in cap and gowns sitting before you today. I personally want to thank Miss Stallings for putting up with me for never turning in my required community service hours until last week. Mrs. Hendricks, Wolfgramm and Diaz: Thank you for welcoming me into your offices whenever and providing me a safe place at this prison. … I mean school. I also want to thank Ms. Cannon for being more than just a teacher throughout this tough year. Your free therapy sessions during lunch really helped us more than we could ever show our gratitude for. To my friends: Thank you for dealing with my cheesy dad jokes, and I enjoyed the memories we’ve made. To my family: I would like to express a few words in Vietnamese — Cảm ơn ba mẹ trong thời gian qua — thank you for helping me the past few years. And to the Class of 2022, like Drake said, “We made it.” Today, we become Ocoee graduates. The home of the Knights is now also the home of tomorrow’s doctors and lawyers, teachers and psychologists, financial analysts and data

scientists, musicians and engineers, architects and nurses. Each of us had our own unique experiences at Ocoee — a combination of good times and bad times, times of laughter and of joy, times of school spirit, and of course, times of last-minute cramming and submitting assignments at 11:58 p.m. just to feel the relief from the celebratory confetti. Graduation marks the end of yet another memorable chapter in our lives. With this chapter closed, I am certain that many of us are already anxious about starting the next one, because, unlike Mx. G’s quizzes, we cannot simply skip the readings and ace the test by Googling lit charts. We all have our own book of life that has not yet been written, and every day that passes is another page waiting to be written. As I stand here today, I want to leave you all with one final thought. … Life will rarely take you down the road you expect to travel, but the journey we take will always shape us more than the place we land. Congratulations to us all. We worked for it, and we deserve to celebrate ourselves. Let us remember where we came from, our childhood dreams and the challenges we’ve overcome. Let us believe we can accomplish anything, let us choose to prosper and succeed. In the words of Charles Dickens, “The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.” I believe that no matter where life takes us, we will meet again. Until we do, we will carry each other in our hearts forever. Class of 2022, I love y’all. Class of 2022, we made it. Preston out. — Preston Le

f you would have looked at anyone in the graduating Class of 2022 and told them that they would be completing their high school education through a global history-making pandemic and be the first to test run new never-before-seen learning technology, they would probably look at you and laugh. Sure enough, that’s exactly what we did. The Class of 2022 is one for the history books and has arguably had to prevail through the most trying and soul-straining circumstances seen in a long time. Although no one expected it to be like a high school musical, our situation made high school feel more like an apocalypse movie. Our only full nonrestricted year was our freshman year: a doubleedged sword considering that we were able to experience one year of normalcy, yet it was a taste of an experience and events we would never be able to participate in over

“Our lives are before us. Our past is behind us. Our memories are forever within us.” Congratulations Class of 2022! It has been my great privilege to serve as your principal. As my second graduating class, it has been a pleasure to get to know you and watch you learn and grow over these past two years. While your high school graduation marks the end of an era, it also signals the start of a new beginning and a bright future ahead. I encourage each of you to pursue your passions, stay true to yourself, work hard, be kind, and go out and change the world! In the words of Kerry Washington, “Your life is your story, and the adventure ahead of you is the journey to fulfill your own purpose and potential.” I am so glad that I have been afforded the opportunity to be a small part of your journey, and I cannot wait to see what your future holds as you continue to write your story. Be Kind — Be Brave — Be You — Dr. Lisa Karcinski

the next three years. We watched event after event we had been looking forward to getting postponed and canceled; learned about every new mandate required; and made every tough decision we needed to take into consideration our education and our safety. We heard every phone call alerting us that there was a new confirmed COVID-19 case and watched our friends graduate in pixels as our hope for a normal senior year fizzled out. When senior year did finally arrive, we returned to a school that felt unfamiliar to us: teachers and peers whose faces we’d never actually seen; new rules in place; and signs telling us to wear a mark and explaining how to wash our hands. The opening of a nearby relief school caused numerous longstanding teachers to leave, and Ocoee High School was left with numerous positions to fill in a time when teachers were more scarce than ever before. The senior class felt lost. Nevertheless, we prevailed. Despite our self-doubt and academic hindrance, we

finished with the highest graduation rate in the district and in school history. Despite our class being faced with one of the toughest years for college admissions ever seen before, we ended with 15 students being admitted to top schools — more students than ever before. Despite a pandemic that drastically impacted our mental health, we all managed to finish what we started and are preparing to graduate in a few short weeks. We did it. We earned our scores, worked for our community service hours, turned in our applications, and are preparing to leave this school year as people transformed by change we never expected but are better because of. We learned lessons in a few years that it takes some people lifetimes to learn. If there is one thing we can take away from our school year destined for the history books, it is this: All of our report cards; SAT scores; acceptance and rejection letters; competition results; personal records; peer reviews; band concerts; offers; and number of follow-

ers or friends mean nothing if we are no longer here to experience and cherish them. These things do not define who we are; they just shape us into the people we are working to become. We never really know who we are meant to be, until we find ourselves being that person. We have learned to lean on one another, to support each other and that our struggles are easier when we carry them together. We celebrate our successes, learn from our failures and continue to move forward. Whatever happens, we know the most important thing is to just keep being. The Class of 2022 has shaped the culture and community of this school, and our impact will last long beyond the time we leave. Our determination to practice acts of service and create events for us to enjoy while keeping people safe is one to admire and to be continued. We truly are unlike any other class, and I cannot wait to discover the people we are meant to become.

During the 1860 presidential election, many believed Republican presidential nominee William H. Seward would become America’s 16th president. However, the tables turned quickly when Abraham Lincoln won that title over Seward. The intense competition between the two during elections and the unexpected outcome fostered hatred and anger within Seward, and probably Lincoln, too. However, acknowledging Seward’s abilities in enhancing the nation, Lincoln appointed Seward as Secretary of State. During Lincoln’s presidency, Seward conspired to control Lincoln and gain power over him. Despite this, Lincoln showed unconditional kindness and hospitality toward Seward. Soon enough, a loyal, close friendship and companionship formed between the two, improving the nation together as a team. Just like Lincoln and Seward, we all have developed this kind of relationship throughout our life. Our family, friends, teachers and mentors have given us a companionship of support, love, loyalty and comfort. This companionship has helped us to overcome the tedious and stressful school years and made them enjoyable. As we explore life beyond high school, I encourage you all

to form trusting, comforting relationships. Find lifelasting companions that will encourage and motivate you during your lowest and hardest times. Reach a hand out to those who despise you. Aim to spread kindness and service to everyone — just like Lincoln did to Seward. Now, I would like to take the time to thank my companions in life. Thank you to Mr. Perrotti for helping me successfully start my journey in Olympia. Thank you to Principal Gorberg and the administration team for forming Olympia into a supportive, successful school. Thank you to my teachers for welcoming and assisting me throughout the year, and to all the other teachers that lead my peers to success. Thank you to my friends for the supportive and comforting companionship. Thank you to my mentors for guiding me through my hardest times. And finally, thank you to my family. Thank you to Ms. Eliza and Mr. HK for pouring so much love into my family. Thank you to my brother, Joel, for your sweet and encouraging words. Thank you to my dad for working so hard and cherishing me more and more each day. Thank you to my mom for being my best friend and showing me what it’s like to love and support someone unconditionally. I encourage all of you to express your gratitude to your companions in life. I hope that the companions you have today may stay with you forever and that you may continuously form inspiring and comforting friendships in college and beyond. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you. — Joanne Lee

Reigniting Titan pride than before and rejoiced in their return. Immense pride at football games, support for the arts, appreciation of academics and more became prevalent in the student body. “I think we brought back Titan pride in a strong statement at the beginning of the school year, evident in our first football game,” senior Samuel Teixeira said. “After-school spirit was at an all-time low during COVID. Our comeback showed that we had not lost our spirit even through that rough patch. Lots of kids participated in theme days and made sure to attend events.” When students were presented with the opportunity to attend events, what they may have passed up before became more important to them. Overall, everyone learned to appreciate and take advantage of the privileges we previously took for granted.

This year is the year of change for students. For the first time since freshman year, the Class of 2022 will have the opportunity to break out their Sharpies and sign yearbooks. The vacant pages yielded from the lack of contact in previous years no longer have room to prosper. Students have learned this era of re-emergence is not something to be afraid of but rather something to be excited about. This time in our lives is when we will have the opportunity to take the reins and create new traditions while admiring the old. One event we introduced this year was the Senior Sunrise. This was an event aimed to symbolize the notion of re-emergence by celebrating the beginning of the end. Students gathered bright and early on the football field together and canvassed the green with blankets to lay with friends and anticipate the

possibilities of our future at Olympia and life in general. As the seniors close the year with Senior Drive Out, they will drive out remembering the academics, athletics, arts and extracurriculars they spent the past four years growing up in. The time spent inside this school seems like a universally shared experience, when really every Titan has a unique story of how their flame ignited. Those dreams that were once lost or abandoned because of the pandemic began to shine once again. Olympia was here, for those seniors, to guide them along the journey out of the darkness. Whether it was playing at an orchestra concert, playing a role in Olympia’s 20th anniversary show, becoming Olympia basketball districts or supporting the football team under the Friday night life, we are all here on this campus for one purpose: to illuminate.

I am so proud of the Class of 2022! With all of the challenges and adjustments they have had to make throughout their four years of high school, they have shown that they have grit and determination. I have had the pleasure of watching these students grow and mature over the past few years, and I know they each have a bright future ahead of them. Congratulations Titans, Class of 2022! — Christy L. Gorberg

he seniors of this year set a path for students for years to come. Throughout the last couple of years, students have struggled and become lost within the walls of Olympia because of the pandemic. This year, the Class of 2022 led by example and gave new students a sweet taste of that Titan pride they did not know they were missing. Giving students something to look forward to, the Class of 2022 assembled old traditions while also creating new ones. Without them, the future may have stayed lost; lacking the sweet nectar one can only receive through the sip of high school spirit. Excluding the Class of 2022, none of the students at Olympia experienced a full year of high school normalcy before this year. The first year of the current junior class was cut short,

sophomores of this year entered high school online, and freshmen entered this year only ever knowing middle school behind a screen. Because they were the only ones left to lead the way, this year’s seniors used their final year as an opportunity to show students what it truly means to be a Titan. “Our class is full of diverse people,” senior Olivia Rutledge said. “Some people you get to know, and some you may one day forget. This year truly has been like no other and has given me the opportunity to connect, when that had previously been stripped away. I am so happy I was able to be surrounded by peers this final year of high school. I loved this year more than any other.” Students this year vivaciously emerged from a stagnant period and showed the world the full extent of youth resilience. Titans came together stronger

Hello graduating Class of 2022! I would like to start off by thanking both my parents and my amazing guidance counselor, Mrs. Julie Mazur. It is due to their support that I have been able to complete my high school experience this successfully. I think everyone graduating today has people to thank, however; whether they be family, teachers or friends, nobody has accomplished this on their own. We are all here today thanks to someone. That said, we are also here thanks to our own dedication and perseverance. We have all faced personal challenges in our educational paths, and we have all shared challenges, as well. The pandemic was a challenge we all faced, and we are all now moving past as a society. It tested our ability to adapt in the face of adversity, and now we are moving forward. This year has been something of a return to normal, which I’m sure everyone is grateful for, but we shouldn’t forget the lessons we’ve learned from this experience. The world is constantly changing, and as we become independent members of society, we must be prepared to adapt and persevere with it. Your presence here today speaks to your dedication and drive. The challenges we will face in the future will be bigger and with steeper stakes, but I think as long as we remember to take advantage of the help that is offered to us and persevere towards the future we desire, we will be successful. Good luck, everyone! — Sean Herlihy

Class of 2022: Irreplaceably special Brooke Ames: The senior Class of 2022 is unique because we’re the first class to completely bounce back from COVID. We’ve seen what all the classes before us have lost, and that has taught us to not take anything for granted. We have worked extra hard to make this year fun and special, and there have been so many fun events this year that years before never got the opportunity to enjoy. We are really lucky because we just made the cutoff, and we are fortunate enough to have an amazingly normal senior year.

Taylor Duncan: What makes the West Orange senior Class of 2022 unique? Other than the many friendships and memories we’ve all created, we’ve all shown hard work and creativity through these difficult times we’ve faced. COVID has definitely helped us all appreciate the little things such as the opportunity of getting to go to school or even socializing among one another. Not being able to enjoy high school the way many of us dreamt of, we’ve been super thankful for little moments of normality we’ve had this senior year such as football games, homecoming, prom, graduation! COVID has definitely helped

us not take these moments for granted and instead has brought us closer together as a class. Hailey Lampshire: The Class of 2022 is unique because we all have a close bond and interact with each other. We are all actively involved in supporting each other, whether it is showing up to each other’s sports games or going to the beach together. We even have a big photo album that we all add pictures to throughout the year from different events. Even having gone through a pandemic, the Class of 2022 still found a way to stay positive and finish our final year strong. Nolan Maroth: The Class of 2022 is very unique because it is a bridge between two very different generations and presents people who have seen both sides of the spectrum. We are tough, courageous and, most importantly, centered on goals. Everybody in the 2022 class is focused on achieving something important to them — whether it be through school, sports or other activities. The bond that we have with one another is unmatched. Through thick and thin we have stuck together and come out on top every time.

Samantha Novak: This year’s graduating Class of 2022 means so much to me. There are so many people that make this class special, and everyone has their own ideas and thoughts that have made this year the best. What makes this class unique is everyone’s talent and ability to do whatever they want to do. There are so many professions out there that I believe that there is one person for each one of them. In our school, we have so many clubs and team activities that there is always something for you, and you can’t be afraid to try new things. You can’t say you don’t like something if you don’t try it. Cambrie Riffe: There are many things that I love about the Class of 2022, but what I believe makes our class unique and stand out from the others is our courage and willingness to lead. This year, we were upperclassmen to students who had never had a normal year of high school. Regardless, we led by both example and action at full force this year, and restored the standard back to the way it was before — but much stronger. The excitement and eagerness the Class of 2022 has displayed from the very start of this year has set the pace for the following classes, which is irreplaceably special.

As the Class of 2022 prepares to enter the next stage of their lives, their memories will undoubtedly be marred by stolen experiences and reduced opportunities, but let not that be the takeaway from your time at West Orange High School. I truly hope you look back on your time and relish not what you didn’t have, but what you did. We grew closer to our peers by shrinking our peer group allowing for deeper relationships. We gained a new appreciation for the simple things in life, and, most importantly, we grew stronger in the face of adversity. The 2021-2022 school year is one we will never forget, and it is my sincere hope that you always remember that you and only you are in control of your own happiness. Life is more about how we view things than the way they actually are. We found through that pandemic that we could make anything fun. Use this newly discovered outlook and go make the rest of your life the way you want it to be, full of joy and finding a way to enjoy even just a normal life. — Matt Turner

Emma Beadle: The Class of 2022 is unique because we are the first class back to a somewhat normalcy since COVID hit. Classes in the past did not even have the chance to have a graduation. We were able to come back with a bang, and we’re able to plan all kinds of events to make this year special for the seniors. We are able to set a good example for the classes to come that throughout the hard times you can still make things work and push through challenges. Our class shows how possible it is to come through the end of the tunnel to the light.

Maggie Blaine: I think of how strong we’ve become with everything we overcame. Back in 2020, when COVID-19 hit, nobody knew what we were in for. This graduating class is the first to overcome the pandemic completely. We were able to have a normal year with events such as homecoming, prom and graduation. We went into the pandemic not knowing what the rest of high school would look like, and now we are stronger than before, ready to walk into the next chapter of our lives, finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

he track of 12 years in grade school … something every student pushes through no matter the obstacles, stretching over every hurdle. Some runners win more than others, placing out on top as their fellow competitors either win beside them, or trip and fail to strive. Regardless, every athlete struggles with tough mistakes and unfortunate inconveniences along their journey to eventual victory. However, what differentiates each competitor between each other simply lies in their range of ability to pick themselves back up, no matter the bloody scrapes and bruises from falling over countless numbers of times. Every student can easily make it past the rough 12 years filled with exploration and possibility. You wake up, exhaustedly walk to school, get decent grades on assignments and tests, go home, sleep and repeat. What makes us different from most, however, is the sheer ability to put massive levels of passion, dedication, and teamwork into every ounce of our interests, academic abilities and ambitious goals. Windermere High School’s Class of 2022 holds incredible levels of determination and courage, which is used perfectly to grasp ahold on anything it set its mind to in a proper but enthusiastic and courageous manner. A grade filled with comfortingly accepting and friendly students willing to express their passions to anybody. Every student within our premises is imperfectly individual in their own beautifully creative and intuitive way. Essentially, nothing can get in the way of

what we love doing and those we care for. Despite this, there’s one thing that we all contain deep down, something that will never be outshined: determination. As the second set of freshmen to stand foot in this large school, we not only stand out brightly for our originality, but our kindness toward one another, our brave leadership and our willingness to help each other through thick and thin — no matter the consequences. From tough sports to the beautiful complexity of arts in all forms, the students have their own glorious potential to prevail in what they love above any complication, painting colorful portrayals of their aspirations, working on drafts for new levels of improvement far beyond what could’ve been previously imagined. We share compassion with those we care about and defend them through every issue. The accomplishments we have been able to achieve through all efforts are perfect results of what we’ve set our minds to. We’ve been recognized and known for our unbreakable school spirit, confidently presenting our names, being proud of who we are or what we’ve accomplished. We, as students and friends, strive tremendously in not only academics but also different sports, artistic abilities, passion and companionship. We’ve been properly prepared for our futures — whether moving to college or workforce, to strive even further in being the best we can possibly be. Our caring teachers deserve the utmost credit for our achievements, as well. Over the course of these four adventurous high school years, the Class of 2022 has been blessed with the presence of incredible teachers that are intimately passionate

with their work and heavily appreciate having students of all sorts. They’ve intricately taught subjects of all matters in things not only they enjoy, but we heavily confide in interest-wise. We’ve grown friendships with our teachers as they’ve come to know us as we have for them, and it’s unbelievably saddening to say goodbye to the people we care about, the people who influenced our learning ability and accepted us for who we are. They’ve helped us through hardships and have helped us push ourselves into the right direction despite any inconvenience, and their generosity shows no boundaries. Our class is immensely grateful to know and have been taught by such wonderful and kind staff. We, as a whole, brightly stand out over the massive field of sunflowers for our fierce independence and incredible strength to explore deep into the unknown, blooming big vibrant pedals for everyone to see as we flourish in our victories and pride. We care for one another, accept one another, help each other through any cause, and, most importantly, we are absolutely determined to accomplish our goals and strive to our best. We are the athletes who strive to the top with our intense determination. We are the athletes who are appreciated for our amazing levels of companionship and passion for what we love and enjoy. We are the athletes who care for one another and work together to reach our ultimate goal. We are the athletes who push through every hardship we’re brutally hit with and leave nothing behind but dusty, unwanted remains. We are the Windermere Wolverines.

NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As another school year draws to a close, it is important to take time to reflect on all the accomplishments we’ve achieved as a school and community. At Windermere, the phrase, “Achieving Greatness with Honor,” is more than just a tagline, it is a core belief in all that we do. From academics and athletics to fine arts and extra curricular activities, I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished both in and out of the classroom over the course of this school year. For many of us, the global pandemic shaped our high school

lives and careers. Daily, weekly and monthly changes tested the limits of our patience and flexibility as we tried to find ways to return to some semblance of normalcy. But also, it pushed us to strive for innovation and adaptation to make the high school experience one to always remember. This class adapted and never allowed the pandemic to slow their desire for a memorable high school experience. The opportunities that lie before you are endless, but it will be up to each of you to passionately pursue your goals and dreams. Don’t be

afraid do take chances and even fail. Colin Powell once said: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard works and learning from failure.” Whatever goal you have, I expect you to passionately work to reach it while doing so with honor. To all my students, thank you for making my first year at Windermere one that I will never forget. To my seniors, may the road rise to meet you, and may the wind always be at your back, and remember, once a Wolverine, always a Wolverine.

Today, I wanted to focus on what’s going on in our minds right now, because, ladies and gentlemen, this is it: We made it. And as we step in this new phase of our lives, I know there may be a lot running through your mind. You may be thinking about how you will miss your old routine or the people you’re used to seeing. But I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the fact that this is also one of the greatest opportunities for a restart that we will have in a while. Although you could argue that every day is a chance to restart things, and I couldn’t agree more. From the moment you wake up, you have the power to do things differently and to choose how you’re going to take on the challenges of everyday life. However, this time around, you’ll wake up during the next few months and likely be surrounded by people who are also moving into a new phase of their lives. We will all be trying to adapt to a new environment, a new routine, new people. It’s like one big restart. Now, how you’re going to take advantage of this restart is completely up to you. Some of you will take this opportunity to change your whole life around. Change your habits, the people you talk to, how you present yourself to others and, ultimately, how people perceive you. Some you will try not to change much — maybe because you’re comfortable with where you are right now as a person. And that’s OK. Regardless of where you stand, I’m here to tell you: Do

it. Because you’re the one who defines what it means to be successful. You’re the one who knows what makes you feel fulfilled. You define happiness by your own terms. And if you’re trying to do your best, and you have all the best intentions in the world, then I’m a firm believer that things will work out. For those who will be trying to change things up, I urge you: Do not give up, and don’t listen to those who tell you otherwise. Because they’re going to tell you that can’t change or that you can’t do something, but don’t let them convince you that you are an imposter in your own dream — that will never be the case. Regardless of whether you’re going to try and develop a healthy habit, practice a new hobby, learn a new skill or even if you’re trying to leave people who are not supportive of you in the past. Don’t be afraid to tell people that you changed, because they’re going to judge you for the person you were yesterday or the day before. But at the end of the day, we live in the present, baby. So, call yourself a reader. Call yourself an entrepreneur. If you just started exercising for the first time in your life, call yourself an athlete. Call yourself the new you, because why wait to be the person you want to become when the future is only one second away. Now go out there, follow your gut. Face the challenges on the road ahead with faith and conviction that as long as you’re doing what you feel in your heart is right, and you’re being conscientious about how you’re doing it, you’re going to do fine. You’re going to find your group of people. You’re going to get there. And even if you don’t, the hard work you put in along the way will have been more than enough to open many other doors for you to explore. — Henrique Rodrigues

VALEDICTORIAN’S SPEECH I’ve been dreaming of this moment for a long time. From the moment I started high school, I told myself that I would do everything I could to be valedictorian one day. It was a goal I strived for over many years, and it took a lot of time and effort to get here. I still remember the day I was told I was valedictorian. For the first few minutes, I felt like I was on top of the world. I had finally made it. But after the initial buzz wore off, two haunting words filled my mind: “Now what?” I had nothing more to chase, no goal to reach for. I thought being valedictorian would fulfill me, but all it did was leave me aimless, wondering what’s next for me? I didn’t fully understand why I felt this way until I finished my senior season of track a few short weeks ago. Track is a sport where you’re always constantly chasing a better time. Once you beat your PR, you have to beat it again and again and again. When I finished my last track meet, I felt a similar kind of aimlessness that I had after

becoming valedictorian, and those same words invaded my thoughts: “Now what?” Because there was no more time to chase, was I simply done? I thought about what I had gained from running track. Did I just walk away from the sport with a good mile time, or was it about something more? Then it hit me. Track isn’t about individual times. Each race is a culmination of training and preparation of the races prior. The sport, at its core, is about the

journey, the work put in that makes you a better runner as a whole. Improving race times is merely a side effect. I realized I had become too focused on the next race, on the next time, to enjoy the little moments, the small improvements, the team memories, that shaped my season and the runner I became. And this applied to school, as well. I was so consumed with chasing this one goal, to be here as valedictorian, that I never considered the journey along the way. As a class, suffice to say that we’ve had a wild four years. We’ve survived everything from a global pandemic to high school drama. I’m still not sure which of the two I think is scarier. I’ve seen that nothing can stop the Class of 2022 from doing what we set our minds to. However, among all the triumphs and failures we’ve experienced, we have a tendency to focus on the future, on the next assignment, the next game, the next weekend, whatever it may be. I’d venture to say that all of us have thought those words: “Now what?” or “What’s next?”

It’s not bad that we’re constantly looking to the future: This is a driven class who wants to succeed. But in the heat of it all, we lose sight of where we’ve been, how we got here. I’m reminding you … to acknowledge the complete journey, the good times, the bad and even the mundane, because God has used every moment to mold you into the men and women sitting here today. Run the race one step at a time. And here we are, on these final steps. I always thought that the valedictorian is the kid who’s got it all figured out. That he’s somehow cracked the code and knows exactly how to succeed in life. Standing up here now as that kid, I can’t begin to tell you how fake that is — in my case, at least. God gifted me with a good brain, but high school outside of the classroom wasn’t a breeze for me. I faced plenty of struggles. Loneliness was one big problem I dealt with. Sure, I had lots of friends, but most of these relationships were surface-level. One way to describe it was that I was friends with everyone, but best friends with no one. I had

many days where I felt alone, like I didn’t have anyone to go to, although I tried never to let it show. I think all of us have felt that way at some point in our lives. I found myself longing to make memories and build deep and lasting relationships, but I never knew where to start. Suffice to say that I definitely don’t have it all figured out. But I believe God does everything for a purpose. At first, I didn’t know why I had these struggles, why I could never seem to find my place. So, I retreated to my safe place, the Bible, and hoped to find peace and clarity. Eventually, I found Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When I read this, I felt God’s voice whispering in my ear: “I’ve got you; I’m by your side,” and I felt a peace wash over me. … Tonight is bittersweet. We celebrate the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. Like it or not, The First Academy has played a ma-

jor role in all of our lives. This place, these people, will always be a part of who we are. And it’s sad to leave that all behind. Not only that, we are leaving behind our childhood in these hallways. The type of life that we’ve lived for 13 years is over, and now life requires that we become adults who can deal with all the new responsibilities thrown our way. What comes next will vastly differ from the lives we’ve lived thus far, but it will be exciting. We’re all at the cusp of an amazing adventure. New friends, new knowledge and new memories await all of us, wherever you may go next. I know you all are fully capable of great success in this next phase of life. And if you ever feel your steps wobbling and your path is unclear, look to Jesus, who is your friend and protector. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Conner Riley

Class of 2022: It seems like only yesterday you entered the doors of TFA for your senior year. As you head off to college, let me challenge you to stay committed to the values that you were taught at home, your church and TFA. Remember: God is your refuge, and He has a plan and purpose for each one of you. It has been a privilege to be your principal, and I wait in anticipation to see what God is going to do in you and through you. Congratulations! — Dr. Shayne Grove, Upper School Principal

he First Academy Class of 2022 is unique because of all of the things that have brought us to where we are. It is evident that there have been challenges, such as COVID, that were prevalent from our sophomore and junior year, but events like that brought us closer together. It allowed us to form close bonds and get excited about the little things. I think that these things made participation in events unlike any other class, and made us so excited to attend these things. From small events such as school student life activities to larger ones such as Homecoming, we have always shared excitement and eagerness to participate. Everything is a big deal to our class, and it will always be fun. Our class not only participates in these events but also in extracurricular activities. We are involved in

many athletic teams, clubs and fine arts. There is never a night of the week where there is not a game to attend and cheer each other on. TFA fosters a community where you attend school during the day and find yourself still at school many nights at every sporting event or play. The thing that makes our class the most special is the friendships that we have. Just like any other class, you can find friend groups, but our class is different in the way that we are all close. Since we have been in elementary school, the bonds of this class have been strong, and that has carried along through middle school and high school. Many of the characteristics of this Class of 2022 are a result of the leadership at The First Academy. The leaders take time to create an environment. Although the Class of 2022 will become alumni soon, the friendships that have been formed will continue to grow.

VALEDICTORIAN’S SPEECH The Class of 2022 has gone above and beyond in our accomplishments, and we should all be proud of the men and women we have become. From surpassing the senior class scholarship record to covering the school in toilet paper, we have truly left our mark on Foundation Academy. Coming to Foundation Academy from Sebring in eighth grade as the new kid, I hardly knew anybody. I had never been in a new school environment before, so being the new guy on campus was a bit awkward for me. To my friends, thank you for welcoming me into this environment with open arms (although Bowman was pretty skeptical with how my Invisalign

braces looked) and for all of the unforgettable memories we have made over the past five years. You all have made high school an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. To all of the teachers and faculty at Foundation Academy: Thank you for all of the wisdom

and knowledge you have instilled in us. Even during times of hardships and setbacks, you all have been there to support the students in our journeys. Specifically, I’d like to reflect upon a time during our sophomore year, when we first got pushed to online schooling due to COVID. Mr. Campbell, not being the most tech-savvy of the teachers out there, no offense Mr. Campbell, made class a thrilling experience by pulling out one of those old-timer projectors in his house to teach us chemistry — all while using a medieval sword as a pointer to specify the most pertinent content we needed to understand. Along with Ian vlogging freshmen year in Ms. LJ’s class and Mr. Davis

teaching us to think for ourselves by staying away from that distrustful mainstream media, moments like these are ones we can as a class say positively molded who we are today. Even though it may sound cliché, you all have made me truly believe the idea that FA is family. Many of us are experiencing an abundant range of feelings and emotions about this next chapter of life. We are jubilant to leave this old one behind and start anew, but no matter where we go, we will always face problems and setbacks. Whether it is a failed test in college or a discouraging job interview, how we respond to these moments of despair is what will lead to our major comebacks. I love this quote

by the great Henry Ford: “Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and griefs which we endure help us in our marching onward.” We will all have our own setbacks every single day but our persistence to keep pushing is what will make every single one of us successful individuals. It took Thomas Edison over 1,000 attempts to invent the light bulb. So, if you are passionate about something, pursue that passion knowing that you will face many trials and tribulations. Your grit and determination is what will make success inevitable in the

end. Just make sure you know what defines success for you. Success is not the same for everyone. If you fail, you are not a failure. Take courage in the face of adversity because failure may just open your eyes and make you realize that you can be successful in a different avenue. As we explore our new beginnings, I encourage you all to never underestimate the power and influence we can have on society. Each one of us was gifted with unique, Godgiven talents that can be used to change the world. Seniors, thank you for an incredible year and I look forward to hearing about everyone’s future endeavors. Pool party at 12:20! — Nathan Andrews

Record-breakers, friends in faith most welcoming people that I have ever been around or watched interact with people.” The senior class continues to be friendly towards each other, underclassmen, teachers, administrators and people outside of school. The seniors created closer bonds with each other when they took a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for their senior trip. They participated in karaoke night, hiking and sightseeing — all while growing closer to one another. Our seniors continue to love one another and thank God every day for the friendships with which He has blessed them. Many of the friendships among the senior class will be friendships that will last a lifetime. On top of loving one another, the Class of 2022 has broken the Class of 2020’s scholarship record and has received the most scholarships thus far in Foundation Academy history. The students worked hard to get high SAT and ACT scores to gain Bright Future Scholarships. They also applied to individual schol-

arships. One of our valued students, Justin Williams, was awarded the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Courage Award. The award was a $1,000 scholarship that was well deserved. It was a blessing for Justin and his family, and they are very grateful. Another special award was given to Daniel Harrington who received the National Merit Finalist title. There were many awards given to our 2022 seniors as well as many other scholarships received that allowed our Class of 2022 to break the previous record. We are so proud of our FA seniors! As a whole, our class is persistently setting goals to become the best versions of themselves they can be with God’s helping hand. We know that our students will continue to do great things as they move out of high school and carry on into college and their future. We pray for our students that are about to graduate as well as the underclassmen that continue on through their high school career.

What do I say about this special senior class? There are not enough adjectives to describe their awesomeness. What a year we had from the senior sunrise, the beach retreat, the Tennessee trip, all the senior surprises and lunches, to the final senior sundown. You are a great group of students who have such bright futures ahead of you. God has amazing plans for each one of you. My prayer is that you take time to be still and just listen to the Holy Spirit’s quiet voice whenever you get a chance. You all have my heart and I know that you have the ability to change our world with your goodness. Sarah Reynolds, principal, Tilden Campus

ur Class of 2022 is full of intellectual, joyous, easygoing and faith-centered students. Each student brings something special to the senior class with his/her broad talents and gifts with which God has blessed him/ her. Because of this, this year’s senior class stands out from many other classes in the past in several ways. From having the most scholarships in FA history to creating close friendships, our Class of 2022 is unique. Since the beginning of the school year, the senior class has worked hard to achieve their goals. From taking extra classes online to raise their GPA to applying to many Ivy League schools, our senior class is one of the smartest senior classes in Foundation’s history. One of the most valued characteristics of the 2022 senior class is the close bonds of friendships we have with each other. One of our senior sponsors, Meredith Leiferman, told the senior class, “Y’all are some of the friendliest and

The experience at Montverde Academy is rooted in the ideals of Knowledge, Character and Community, and our culture is based on one primary objective — to achieve excellence in all that we do. To achieve that standard of success, our students will encounter moments of adversity, perhaps even failure, which is all part of the journey to achieving success. Being willing to take on challenges, developing the skills to meet those challenges, and achieving success is founded on the expectation that in each of our students we will develop a work ethic complemented by character qualities that acknowledge diversity, mutual respect and tolerance, and a commitment to the greater community around them. — Dr. Kasey C. he Montverde Academy Class of 2022 is all the sense of the word ‘unique’ in their many accomplishments during their years at the Academy. This class has created leaders that have shown how to think outside themselves and serve others in ways that not all high school seniors show. This class is not only remarkable but filled with outstanding fortitude and leadership throughout. From being at the Academy since PreK-4 or arriving just a year ago, the exemplary behavior of these senior students has led their teachers and advisers to be not only saddened by their departure but also proud to have taught them how to continue to excel in life. “This class truly has a desire to think outside themselves and serve others in any way, shape, or form,” said Mr. David Bernatavitz, dean of the Upper School at Montverde Academy. “I have seen these students grow in so many areas, and I am excited to see them conquer the world after they graduate. I am proud of this class and all they have overcome; it has been challenging, yet empowering.” For some, this class has an ‘eclectic’ mix of students that have it all. There are athletes, merit scholars, musicians, actors, artists and so much more, creating a sense of diversity that is not always seen in a senior class. “There’s just no specific theme with this class which I think is so special, an eclectic mix if you will,” said Mrs. Kimberly Brauman, associate dean of Upper School at Montverde Academy. The students have taken on some exciting challenges in the past two years and have developed specific skills to meet them and achieve success. With COVID-19, the Class of 2020 was not able to graduate in person; however, this class is able to do so, and understand how fortunate they are to have that. They also realize the importance of giving back. The Class of 2022 contributed 82,003 total community service hours from June 2018 to May 2022. That is not only impressive, but also a huge

achievement for all of them. This senior class was able to enjoy celebrating each other in person at our annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) and the GEICO High School Nationals, where our senior athletes led our boys and girls basketball teams to historic victories. As Class of 2022 salutatorian, Pavlos Tentamos recalls his favorite memory as having enjoyed the sense of togetherness with his class this year at the MAIT tournament. “The excitement of everyone running towards the court as the team made that last shot was incredible,” Pavlos said. It has truly been an exciting year for every one of these senior students, especially in our Athletics and Fine Arts areas. Besides our basketball teams excelling in national championships, many of our other sports, such as softball, lacrosse, track and field, baseball, and equestrian, have brought home a series of victories in their competitions. Whether it was winning the district championship or regional championship, our senior students will be advancing on with wonderful memories. The Class of 2022 also had 33 Distinguished Scholars among them, represented 38 countries, 40 Cum Laude Society inductees and had three National Merit Scholarship finalists. “What I truly admire about our senior class is their sheer friendliness and respect,” Pavlos said. “Even though our class size is extremely large, I can effectively say that I have held meaningful conversations with a vast majority of my peers. Whether it’s a simple ‘good morning’ or a deeper discussion, there are always smiles on the faces I greet. It is a wonderful feeling to be around such positive, wholehearted people throughout most of your day.” In the end, we are truly proud of the continued efforts of the Class of 2022’s desire to succeed in all they do and make it known. They have continuously portrayed examples of what we have rooted in the ideals of knowledge, character and community. Congratulations Class of 2022!

FROM THE VALEDICTORIAN High school is often described as a roller coaster, with its highs and lows. Though, for the Class of 2022, the experience was more akin to riding the Tower of Terror. As the ride progresses, there are moments that may surprise you, scare you or simply give you a bad feeling — but afterward all you remember is the excitement and fun. As we look back on the last four years of our lives,

I implore my peers to not fixate on the negatives and, instead, concentrate on the occasions that made high school enjoyable and life somewhat more beautiful. I am honored to represent Legacy Charter High School’s Class of 2022 as their valedictorian and wish every senior luck as they strap in for the next ride. — Morgan Congdon

Graduation is a big accomplishment; you put forth effort, made it through tough classes and created memories along the way. Each of you has worked so hard to get to this milestone. Now, you are ready for your next journey. Some of you are going to college, some are joining the military, and some are going into the workforce. Whatever path you are taking, be bold, take risks and conquer your goals. Everything in life will not be easy, and you will have bumps along the way. Just remember to stay focused on your journey, and I promise every bump in the road will turn into a lesson learned and will make you stronger. All of us at Legacy are so proud of you and we believe in you. Congratulations and Soar High!

he Class of 2022 has been held under the perfect storm of chaos and normality. Unlike other grades, which got to experience their freshman and sophomore years as they would have been years ago, while their senior year also grew to be mostly unhindered as they would have originally wished. Belonging to a generation that grew up during the rise of technology in the household, the Class of 2022 has a connection to the digital world that younger generations know so well alongside the more grounded reality of older generations. Being a median between generations in more ways than one, these students make it easy to recognize why they stand out so much among their peers. When looking at a group of seniors this year, it’s easy to see why they get along so well. They display a camaraderie that makes them able to work as one unit while pushing each other to be their best as individuals. Work is important to this class, but so are the personal connections between one another. Each student understands that to

function best as a team, you must know your team members and get along well enough to truly understand the strengths of one another. They tackle problems by searching for multiple answers first and then choosing the one that fits the best for their team. Often, if one classmate is struggling, they will find others who have the same issues and group together to best solve the issue. There is never a sense that anyone in the Class of 2022 will be left behind; in the rare case that they are, there are always other options for them to pursue. As wonderful as they are, the Class of 2022 is far from flawless. Many students can be lazy and look for the easiest way out of an assignment. When they struggle together, they also tend to look for the easiest way out of the problem together. No one is perfect, and from flaws, new strengths are born. The admittance of these flaws is crucial to who these students are, as they bring honesty and willingness to learn to their studies. Without knowing one’s flaws, how can one follow the path to improvement?

Everyone wishes for success, and the seniors of this year are no strangers to ambition. Whether they wish to run their own businesses, become artists, study at medical school or revolutionize the technology of the future, these students are always looking ahead. Certainly, they are all aware of the insane amount of work that any of the prospects they dream about require. However, their willingness to learn and admit their faults in the classroom shows promise for what they will be able to achieve after graduation. This group of students has also made its mark upon the teachers who consider themselves lucky to have had them in their class. School, while many students loathe it, has treated the Class of 2022 quite well. This is largely to do with the personal connections that these students have made with their teachers. Not only are they looking to learn and be cooperative with their teachers, but they also make a point to share their own knowledge, and truly treat their teachers like other people. Many go without caring for their teachers in any way,

but the seniors of this year have not only found mentor figures in their teachers but friends as well. Without the active role that the Class of 2022 took, the mark that the teachers left upon these students, and vice-versa, would have been far less distinguishable. Throughout the years, this graduating class has created a family environment, rather than that of a classroom that nobody wants to be in. At the end of the day, people in every graduating class grow up to be important, as they are the ones who shape the world. As a member of the Class of 2022, however, I believe that this class will leave a unique impact on the world, and the schools that we will leave behind. Experiencing school alongside my fellow seniors, I’ve learned a lot about how to be a better person. While school always had its ups and downs, the people I went through it with pushed me to persevere, to the very last day. I know that this year’s graduating class will work together to create a better world, and I most certainly trust them to do amazing things in the future. GRADUATION

Every one of your four years at Olympia has been different. After a “normal” freshman year, as sophomores, you left for Spring Break and didn’t come back. As juniors, some stayed home, while others came back. Finally, as seniors, things seem to finally be back to normal, just in time for prom and graduation. These years have tested and formed you. Go out there and make us proud. Go Titans!

Congratulations! Your future is so bright! Keep Christ first in all you do. Go be great!
