CHANGED
MY LIFE
One phone call changed my life forever on
February 28, 2016.
I hadn’t been feeling well and my Doctor had sent me in for a CT scan. Her phone call was to share the results. I could hear the emotion in her voice, after all, I knew her well as I had been her office manager for 6 years.
It turns out I had a 13 centimeter (over 5 inches) mass on my left Ovary. I couldn’t reach my husband as he had left his cell phone home (really David…rolling my eyes). When he walked in the door my composure vanished and the tears flowed as I told him what my doctor has said.
His reassurance is what I needed to hear; “Let's not panic as we have no idea what it may be - we will prepare for the worst and hope for the best”.
After doing a lot of research for a gynecological oncology surgeon (not as common as you would think) I was fortunate enough to be accepted by the top surgeon in Arizona. At my first consultation he said that my CAT scan presented as a large Cyst, however, he would not know for sure until the surgery during which the Pathology lab would test a specimen and yay or nay cancer.
March 31, 2016 I went under the knife and my worst fears were confirmed.
Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. Not only that but the mass had attached itself to my Bladder and my Colon. My Oncology surgery called
in his specialists and it took four surgeons 6.5 hours to clean up the mess. I ended up with my Bladder shut down for four weeks and the hardest blow to me, a Colostomy (how I HATED that bag).
Several months of Chemotherapy followed along with the loss of my hair, my weight plummeted down to 108 pounds and even getting out of bed to attend to my Colostomy bag took all the energy I could muster. David was there every step of the way as my 24x7 caregiver, my rock and my comedian. He told me that a positive attitude and keeping everything in perspective was his role in my journey so he kept me smiling and upbeat as much as possible.
Altogether over the next two years, I had a total of four surgeries with the last one being the reversal of my Colostomy. Although I was prepared to have the bag permanently and David continually reminded me that I was a survivor which is all that really, mattered. So, after another 6-hour surgery in October 2017, my amazing surgeon was able to restore me.
I was thankful I had health insurance but it was a $10,000 deductible with another $5,000 of co-pay so, we burned through any cash we had, maxed out our credit cards and personal lines of credit. The end result, we ended up many thousands of dollars in debt. Cancer doesn’t just attack your body it consumes your emotions, your strength, and your money.
Our daughters set up a Go Fund Me website and through the kind generosity of our family, friends and even some folks we didn’t know we kept going.
The good news…
Now nearly 3 years later, I’m cancer free and words can’t describe how thankful I am. The financial carnage David and I have been through left us in a quandary as to how to move forward and rebuild financial stability.
I was determined to do my part to dig usout of this money pit. I didn’t see howmerely getting a job would be the answer.Instead, I decided to put my efforts intofinding an opportunity with unlimitedincome potential PLUS my efforts wouldcontribute towards building a robustongoing business that would continue topay me even when I was sitting on thebeach (Destin FL.- my favorite).
Problem was, I couldn’t find the opportunity, no matter what I explored it always came up short, that is, until I was introduced to Jessica Peterson. She showed me the opportunity with EXP Realty and how it nailed each and every one of my goals; earn income and make a difference.
What really sealed the deal for me was the amazing training and support from Jessica and her team through her exclusive WOW Power Players training.
