OOTA NEWS Out of the Asylum Writers Inc. advises that Writing at the Centre classes are now being held in the café of the Fremantle Arts Centre. This may be a temporary measure until a suitable venue is found or an alternative arrangement is made by the members of OOTA. The Fremantle Arts Centre has priced the hire cost of the room out of the reasonable reach for casual weekly classes and for its tutors. Do watch out for the date of our AGM in October whereby the matter will be tabled. WRITING AT THE CENTRE Friday, 5th September is Prose with Helen Hagemann. 10.00am til noon @ the Fremantle Arts Centre Café. Class to read excerpts from 12 Edmonstone Street by David Malouf. Writing Exercises and discussion will centre on writing “memoir/autobiography” in particular the importance of place; houses also as a suitable subject for the short story writer.

POEM OF THE WEEK After Reading Tu Fu, I Go Outside to the Dwarf Orchard East of me, west of me, full summer. How deeper than elsewhere the dusk is in your own yard. Birds fly back and forth across the lawn looking for home As night drifts up like a little boat. Day after day, I become of less use to myself. Like this mockingbird, I flit from one thing to the next. What do I have to look forward to at fifty-four? Tomorrow is dark. Day-after-tomorrow is darker still. The sky dogs are whimpering. Fireflies are dragging the hush of evening up from the damp grass. Into the world's tumult, into the chaos of every day, Go quietly, quietly. — Charles Wright
