TO THE HAZELEY SIXTH FORM
Welcome to Hazeley Sixth Form. If you decide Hazeley is the place for you, you will embark on a two year progressive journey which builds your Character, Confidence and Creativity, offers you the opportunity to contribute to our community, and thoroughly prepares you for your chosen destination whether that is going to university, taking up an apprenticeship or entering full time employment. Our aim is to help you smoothly transition from Key Stage 4 into Key Stage 5, where you will be stretched and challenged but always supported to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Many of you are completing the final two years of a sevenyear Hazeley journey, however many of you will come to us from neighbouring schools and towns and will very quickly be integrated into the Academy community and Sixth Form life.

The journey starts before you fully enrol with us, through the support and guidance we give you to ensure you make the right subject choices and pathway that is right for you. You will see from the subject information and application form on our website that we offer different routes which are designed to help ensure you access a pathway suitable for you. Whether you take our broad and balanced A level offer route, or either one of our specialist vocational routes in Health and Social Care or Business and Finance you will be taught by our excellent and experienced Key Stage 5 teachers who have a passion for their subjects and are always willing to go above and beyond. In addition to your subject teachers you will find the Sixth Form tutors and leadership team on hand to support you. At Hazeley we are very proud of the structured intervention we have in place to ensure you achieve your best.
In addition to your studies, we provide you with a wide range of enrichment activities that allow you to obtain additional qualifications such as EPQ, Core Maths, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Young Enterprise Programme. Alongside this our Principal Students and Senior Student team provide you with the opportunity to shape and develop your Sixth Form.
Our Netball and Basketball Academies will allow you an opportunity to access top class coaching, fixtures, links to clubs, as well as coaching and leadership skills and qualifications. For those students who are playing any top level sport, not just those in the Netball and Basketball Academies, our aim is to work with you to ensure you can balance your sport alongside your education and achieving excellent outcomes.
Hazeley has a strong tradition and an exciting future in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. Expert teaching and leadership have led to outcomes which frequently places many of these subjects in the top 10-15% in the country in terms of progress. Students consistently go on to the top universities, including Cambridge, Warwick, Birmingham and Bath.
2018 saw the launch of our STEM+ programme in which we take the student experiences to the next level. This will hopefully include an opportunity to visit CERN and STEM employers such as Amazon. Talks on a range of STEM careers and subject interest areas, as well as much more.
Our most recent partnership with the Nursing Cadet’s scheme has been exceptional and very exciting for our Health and Social Care students, who have the opportunity to complete individual placements within different settings within the Health and Social Care sector, which is so valuable for those who want a career within this sector.
The excellent academic rigour of our Humanities subjects has led to exceptionally high outcomes and a significant number of students achieving the top grades. Humanities students are given the opportunity and supported to take part in essay competitions such as John Locke and Minds Underground competition, winners of these are held in high regard by prestigious universities and have financial prizes attached. In addition, the Humanities subjects have a strong focus on linked careers through visits from our alumni students. Students may have the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament and Washington.
Enterprise and Entrepreneurship is a growing sector within Milton Keynes and at Hazeley we have a strong focus on these through Economics, Business, and Financial Studies. Students who study these subjects will have the opportunity to meet with local employers and guest speakers, take on work experience and be part of the Young Enterprise programme, where they will be mentored by experienced CEOs and managers. An ideal opportunity for any aspiring entrepreneur.
Our aim is simple; Hazeley will be the very best place to study these subjects.

We are very proud of our Sixth Form as our students, for those of you who attend our Sixth Form open evening, you will see the pride and the passion of our students yourselves, as they will be on hand to guide you round the different subject areas and talk to you about their experiences. The following prospectus will also give you a further insight into life in the Sixth Form from the students’ point of view.
Thank you for your interest in the Hazeley Academy.
Mrs Mayles, Head of Sixth Form

WHAT MAKES OUR SIXTH FORM SPECIAL?

You will experience a dynamic learning environment which will allow you to achieve your potential and beyond, both in your chosen subjects but also through numerous opportunities available to develop your life skills and the qualities needed for life after Hazeley.
“Hazeley Sixth Form provides a plethora of opportunities for students to develop their academic skills and ability, while also allowing students to access a wide range of volunteering opportunities to develop personal skills. While being a Sixth Form with the purpose of education, Hazeley focuses very heavily on the growth of their students’ characters. The environment for learning is very unique and tailored to students’ ability and needs, the staff are enthusiastic about the subjects they teach and are always more than willing to help their students succeed in any way they can. Finally, while on your journey through Hazeley, staff are keen to help you plan your next steps and show you how to get there.”
“Hazeley has amazing staff and facilities, which work collaboratively to make sure that as students we get the best possible Sixth Form experience. From volunteering to extra-curricular activities, everyone can find something they enjoy. I have been at Hazeley since the beginning of secondary school, and I can attest to the new opportunities and skills provided to me throughout my journey. I am confident that upon leaving, they will put me in a fantastic position for the rest of my life.”
“The Hazeley academy Sixth Form is a great environment for those inspired to continue into future further education as well as for those considering other Post-18 routes, the academy is an incredibly diverse community, where students and staff from all walks of life collaborate to achieve outstanding results at the end of Year 13. The Hazeley staff give us motivation to think about varied ways to solve modern problems in their respective areas of expertise, each of them with their own teaching style and specialisation, meaning there’s always an expert of the field ready to answer any queries and questions about content in the curriculum as well as those questions encountered by students that conduct their own independent research past their Sixth Form education.”
“I think that one of the things that makes our Sixth Form special are the study spaces. Because we have such a wide range of study spaces, it means that you have many chances to be able to do your work - whether that be in quiet places such as Q2 or a more relaxed setting of the pavilion where you have the chance to study with your friends.”
Marcos Esther Honey ArchieSETTLING IN
The transition into Sixth Form is never easy whether you are new to Hazeley or have been here since Year 7, but you will soon feel settled and part of both the Sixth Form and the whole Academy community.

“As an external student changing schools in a covid year, I was nervous however the hazeley students and staff made me feel welcome and provided a large range of opportunities to engage with school making me feel appreciated and welcomed. Settling into such a positive and welcoming community with its great socialising and study spaces was a quick and enjoyable experience. Despite covid making an induction day not possible this vibrant community of exceptional people made it easy to settle in.”
“Even though I was an internal student, the prospect of beginning fresh in Sixth Form was daunting, the idea of new people, new courses and a new routine intimidated me. However, from the first day I knew the transition from Key Stage 4 to Sixth Form would be nowhere near as scary as I first assumed. Students and staff alike were so welcoming and helpful, the resources and support they provided helped to make the transition so much smoother. Although the workload and routine requires more effort and self-motivation than before, by ensuring you have a good routine in place from the beginning and are utilising the massive support your teachers and Sixth Form team can offer you, settling in will become an exciting experience - not an intimidating one.”
“As an external student, I was quite nervous to join Hazeley however, the staff and students were very welcoming, friendly and supportive making the transition much easier. My favourite aspect of Hazeley is the opportunities it has to offer, allowing you to become further involved in the Hazeley community and build a closer relationship with peers and teachers.”
“Having been at Hazeley since Year 7, the transition from Key Stage 4 to Sixth Form was still a daunting leap to make. Going in on the first day with the knowledge of the teachers, whom I knew to be friendly and supportive, to the vibrant community of exceptional people and the community spaces and excellent resources around the school most definitely helped with the nerves of going back to school, after a Year of online learning. The amount of work you receive is a big step up at A Level, but is also taught in a different way, with a bit more flexibility on how you learn outside of lessons. The period of complexity, confusion and new beginnings on the first day was natural for everyone, but I believe this has had an effect on my development both academically and as an individual throughout my time at Hazeley.”
Ethan Evie Hayden MomanaSTUDENT LEADERSHIP
Leadership is very important in the Sixth Form. You will have many opportunities to develop your character, confidence and creativity, as well as contributing , further developing, and progressing your Sixth Form.

“Becoming Principal Boy has given me the perfect opportunity to collaborate with the principal student team, our senior student team, and staff in all aspects of the school, working together to make our Sixth Form a more enticing and vibrant place to study. Not only has the position developed my confidence, communication and organisational skills. I can work with like minded students through the numerous programmes Hazeley offers. With each project, we make sure the 5Cs are at the heart of it, all to help the Hazeley community grow and flourish.”
Rupert
“Becoming more actively involved at The Hazeley Academy as Principal Girl has allowed me to refine my confidence in taking on responsibilities and leadership as well as improving my connections to the wider school community, better preparing me for my post 18 options. The student body works closely with the teaching staff to enhance the atmosphere and ethos of the Sixth Form and the school as a whole - getting involved is not only beneficial to others but highly rewarding. Student leadership not only provides the growth of skills, but also moulds you as a person into a considerate and engaging member of society. I enjoy being a representative of our school and increasing the interactions I have with many different people. This leads me to willingly share ideas and contribute to numerous projects and feel as if my opinions – and those of other students – are valued.”
AnabelDESTINATIONS

You will be encouraged to have high aspirations and develop the confidence, character and skills to leave the Academy fully equipped to be successful at University and Further Education, apprenticeships and in the world of work.
“The Hazeley Sixth Form team gave me lots of support with my university application. They helped thoroughly prepare me for my exams and provided lots of guidance for my personal statement. Their support has allowed me to secure a place at Durham University to study Education with Psychology.”
Hannah
“After studying at The Hazeley Academy, I am going into studying English Language and Literature at The University of Oxford. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and feel incredibly indebted to the school. The teachers that guided me through the entire application process and interviews, were incredible and allowed me to see my own potential. The most wonderful part of the Academy is it’s an institution in which you are encouraged to learn and it’s a process that is celebrated rather than stifling. I am pleased I moved to join the Sixth Form and I am excited for the next step in my education.”
Alicia
“The Sixth Form staff encouraged me to increase my confidence and take part in volunteering opportunities within and outside of Hazeley. Whilst this developed my character, I learned that helping others was extremely important to me. I’m now going on to study Mental Health Nursing at Coventry University and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t thank the Sixth Form team enough for the opportunities and support I was given throughout those two years.”
“The Hazeley Academy Sixth Form has continuously given me the tools and support needed to improve myself not only as a student, but as a person. Moreover, there has been constant help with my learning, and I have been pushed to reach my full potential as well as always having someone to talk to at the times when things can get difficult during the learning process. I am now going on to start a level 7 apprenticeship with Deloitte which I have been aiming for since the start of Sixth Form and I have no doubt that all the attributes I have gained during my time at Hazeley will continue to aid me within the workplace, and during the many exams I will take on throughout the course of my Apprenticeship.”
Nyah JaydonBASKETBALL & NETBALL ACADEMIES

You will be given the opportunity to become an elite student athlete, balancing your studies with top level coaching, training, and fixtures, as well as you having an opportunity to develop your leadership and coaching abilities.
“Since I’ve become a part of the Hazeley family, I have been overwhelmed with the amazing support from all the teachers I have come to know. The most important thing that I have taken from this school is the level of support and the lengths the teachers will go to support their students. Hazeley recognised that there were several internal and external students which have a passion for basketball, and Hazeley saw this as an opportunity to set up their very own basketball academy. The level of effort put in by this school is more than any student could ever ask for and I can say that I am proud to be part of the Hazeley Academy.”
EthanENRICHMENT
At Hazeley you will be given numerous opportunities to grow and develop outside of the curriculum, through our Wednesday afternoon enrichment, which includes volunteering opportunities within our community, Duke of Edinburgh Award, EPQ, Core Maths, Debating club, sport and much more.

“The Hazeley Academy Sixth Form strongly encourages students to get involved with the community outside of everyday classes. From enrichment subjects on Wednesdays such as Core Maths that have helped me apply my mathematical knowledge to the real world to volunteering at the Oxley Park primary school where I supported younger students and developed communication and leadership skills, Hazeley goes above and beyond to create opportunities to participate in and to develop yourself into a better citizen. The variety of enrichment opportunities is vast to guarantee that all students find an area that they can dedicate their time to and will continue to expand alongside new global issues. Not only will my enrichment help me stand out as an exceptional candidate in my personal statement and CV in the future, but it has already helped me develop into a better person through the community-driven environment that Hazeley creates.”
“Being part of the Senior Student teams is empowering and allows us to express the views of students on how the Sixth Form and the Academy can improve to establish a motivational, supportive environment for learning and character development. We work on projects such as discouraging disposable water bottles by advocating for a new water fountain and supporting teacher training on students’ mental health. Other ways through which you can get involved in Sixth Form are becoming a subject ambassador in your favourite subject to help out in lessons, an invaluable opportunity if you want to become a teacher, or becoming a Mental Health or Anti-Bullying Ambassador.”
“For my enrichment I chose to be a subject ambassador for computer science. It was a really interesting experience where I got to learn about how to work with and be patient when teaching the younger years. I was able to learn from the experiences of my peers and compare them to my own. This experience made me realise that I enjoy teaching and talking to others about a subject area that I am passionate about. Coming to The Hazeley Academy will allow you to also have the opportunity to give back to the community by teaching and helping younger years.”
