CHARACTER CONFIDENCE CREATIVITY
WELCOME Thank you for your interest in the Sixth Form at The Hazeley Academy Our vision is to equip our students with the most valuable qualifications at the same time as developing their Character, Confidence and Creativity; we frequently refer to this as Q3C for short. By achieving this we believe that our young people are better equipped to take their place in the increasingly dynamic world in which we live, ready to adapt and change in response to the challenges and opportunities that present themselves. Partnerships are at the heart of all we do. Partnerships between staff, students and home are the bedrock on which we work. Open and honest communication is fundamental to our success. We have high expectations for which we do not apologise, but we maintain these expectations in a supportive environment where we aim for success. This is very much the Hazeley way. Our KS5 teachers are our most experienced. They are highly skilled specialists, who have access to the best support and training so that we can ensure that the final key stage of a student’s education at The Hazeley is even better than those before. This high level of excellence is also reflected in our KS5 pastoral team who are experts, not only in supporting students to choose the most appropriate path through The Hazeley, but also beyond into work or further study. I hope that you take the time to find out more about our sixth form. Speak to some of our existing students, find out about life beyond the classroom, look at our modern specialised facilities, speak with our expert staff and ensure that you are equipped to make the right choice. If you want to gain the best possible qualifications while developing your character, confidence and creativity in a highly supportive environment then I am confident that The Hazeley will be the right choice for you. Tony Nelson Principal (Acting)

Recently, our students have progressed into the fields of accountancy, finance, retail, law, banking, logistics, sports and engineering.
SAM HILLYER 2014 leaver now working as an Associate for Grant Thornton “I really enjoyed my time at Hazeley. As an external student, it was a challenge to try and settle in to a new environment, but the friends I made and the teachers at the school made it really easy. I was encouraged to take part in lots of different aspects of extra-curricular activities, which is great for anyone looking to write a great personal statement for university or application for employment.”

“My time at The Hazeley Sixth Form was, undoubtedly, the best years of my life! The teachers and staff were fantastic and incredibly supportive, lessons were fun and the community feel is great! The best part about Sixth Form was being encouraged to speak to lots of people...I was taught to be independent and that has made such a great difference with my transition to The University of Leeds.”
“My favourite experience would have to be A Level lessons because teachers work with everyone towards their academic and personal goals. I felt like I was in a learning environment where everyone had chosen their subjects so everything from, lesson content, to the people you learn with become very special. Hazeley was a place where we all belonged and I wanted to represent that.”

KATHRYNN COOK 2014 leaver now studying Sociology at The University of Sheffield “Being a part of The Hazeley Sixth Form was fantastic, there was a wealth of academic and extra-curricular opportunities, which truly helped me, particularly when applying for university. Teachers were massively supportive and when it came down to it I felt prepared for my exams in every way.
Progress Review Meeting Applicants who meet the application deadline may be invited for a progress review meeting. Interviews will take place for Hazeley students before the February half term and for external applications before the Easter break. The progress review meeting is a key part of the application process for all students as it is an opportunity for us to discuss your subject interests and future plans, to ensure that you have chosen the courses that are right for you.

Making the Right Choices We are proud of our curriculum which is recognised as being an outstanding element of our provision. At The Hazeley Sixth Form students are offered a wide range of A-Level and BTEC courses. The curriculum is reviewed each year to ensure that we explore new initiatives and make decisions which reflect the needs of our students to prepare them most effectively for higher education and employment. We encourage you to attend our open evening, where full details of our courses will be available and you will be able to meet with teachers to discuss the curriculum. Your subject sheets can be stored in the pocket on the opposite page. Following the open evening, the subject information sheets will be available from the Application page on the Post 16 area of our website. If you would like to discuss any of the options further, please email our sixth form team at sixthform@thehazeleyacademy.com.
Settling In Whether you are new to The Hazeley or have been here for a number of years, the daily routine in the sixth form will be very different from what you are used to. Our sixth form team are available to support you throughout your time with us. You will be part of a form group and will be required to meet expectations on attendance and commitment to your studies. You will benefit from greater independence and a greater responsibility for your own learning and development. You will have opportunities to develop your leadership skills by working with our younger students, take part in various extra curricula activities and be involved in senior student roles. You will need to commit to achieving and contributing to the best of your ability, and the staff will be here to support, encourage, and advise you at every step, and to help celebrate each success and achievement along the way. We look forward to welcoming you to The Hazeley Sixth Form.
