YOUR JOURNEY CONTINUES

WELCOME Students who enrol at the Hazeley Sixth Form will find themselves on a two year progressive journey which builds their Character, Confidence and Creativity and supports their transition from Key Stage 4 into Key Stage 5. Students will be thoroughly prepared for choosing their successful pathway after sixth form, whether that is going to university, taking up an apprenticeship or entering full time employment. Many of our students are completing the final two years of their seven year Hazeley journey; however students join Hazeley from neighbouring schools and towns and all very quickly become integrated into Hazeley and Sixth Form life. The journey starts before the students fully enrol through the support and guidance offered to students helping them make the right subject choices. Our curriculum is reviewed on an annual basis to ensure it meets the needs of our incoming year group, offering a wide range of courses. Students are taught by excellent and experienced Key Stage 5 teachers who have a passion for their subjects and are always willing to go above and beyond to help. In addition students will find the sixth form tutors and leadership team on hand to support. At Hazeley we are very proud of the structured intervention we have in place to ensure students achieve their potential.

In addition to their studies, we provide students with a wide range of enrichment activities, that allow them to obtain additional qualifications such as their St John Ambulance First Aid, develop key life skills including home cooking, staying active through sport, mentoring younger students at the academy and local primary schools, or accessing work experience to support their future career. Also being part of our Principal Student and Senior Student team provides many of our students the opportunity to mould and develop their future sixth form. We are extremely proud of our Hazeley sixth form students. Should you attend the Sixth Form Open Evening you will experience the pride and passion of our students first hand. They will be on hand to guide visitors around different subject areas and share with you their experiences. I hope this prospectus will give you a real insight from a student’s perspective of life in the Hazeley Sixth Form. Mrs B Mayles Assistant Principal – Post 16

I have met some amazing people and made lifelong friends at Hazeley. It is a modern yet established academy that provides a wide range of subject areas. Alex Daniels

I stayed at Hazeley as the teachers really understand the way I learn, I can always get extra help and support. The different study spaces within the sixth form create a positive environment for study whilst allowing students to be independent. Cerys Aylett

Hazeley Academy has given me many opportunities to develop including visiting Oakhill Secure Training centre to help individuals in English and Maths. These and many more opportunities have allowed me to progress and fully prepared me for life at university where I hope to study Psychology. Keshia Osei

I was an external student that chose to come to Hazeley as I wanted to be part of one of the top sixth forms in Milton Keynes. Hazeley has helped me develop and become confident. I have been involved in a mentoring scheme helping Year 7’s in English and maths and found this not only rewarding but it added depth to my university application. Chloe Wilson

Nithuran Pathmanathan

I made the decision to remain at Hazeley for my A-Levels. After considering other local options Hazeley presented a greater range of opportunities, both academic and social, that would be far more beneficial to my overall experience, which I just didn’t get from the other schools. Hazeley’s World Challenge was a chance to fund, plan and take part in a 3 week expedition to Borneo. This gave me a wealth of new skills academically and for everyday life; job application, time management, self-discipline and language skills, all of which will be really useful to me in the coming years. Orson Hopper

SIXTH FORM PROSPECTUS

I have been part of Hazeley Academy for 6 years and have enjoyed every single moment without regret. The academy continues to provide excellent teaching and believes in its values; Character, Confidence and Creativity. My personal confidence has increased dramatically at Hazeley. Through Young Enterprise, I get the chance to experience running a business that I have created from scratch. This has involved presentations and speeches to the business community.

SETTLING IN The transition into Sixth Form can be daunting however if you are new to Hazeley or continuing from Year 11 the team will work hard to ensure you quickly feel settled and part of both the Sixth Form and whole Hazeley community. The designated study spaces ensure you have the support and guidance to adapt to independent study and allow you to work with your fellow students to quickly make progress in achieving your goals.

Starting in any Sixth Form can make you feel nervous however the atmosphere at Hazeley is exciting and full of energy. The teachers and students were friendly and helped me greatly in feeling part of the Hazeley family. The academy continues to deliver exciting new experiences every day, and I look forward to spending another year here, learning and excelling. Josie Sullivan

I can honestly say that Hazeley was my main choice of sixth forms for one reason; it felt right. Walking through the doors into the sixth form area on induction day and the first day of year 12 confirmed I had made the right choice. People will tell you that the transition from Year 11 into Year 12 is HUGE, yet Hazeley managed to take all my worries away. Courtney Wedley
