Pets in Halifax to benefit from brand new vet clinic
Hird & Partners, a mixed veterinary practice, is set to open a new purpose-built, small animal clinic at the end of this month, to provide an even higher standard of service for pets and their owners. One of the largest veterinary practices in West Yorkshire, Hird & Partners has specialist equine, farm animal and small animal facilities at four separate sites around the Halifax area. It has gradually outgrown its well-established pet clinic at Blackwall so is building a new one at King Street in central Halifax. The new premises will have four consultation rooms, bespoke clinical, surgical and diagnostic suites and the convenience of on-site referral to cardiology and ophthalmology specialists. There will be fully equipped dog, cat, small animal and exotic pet wards, a spacious waiting area, an on-site dispensary and a substantial meeting room. The new clinic will also provide a referral service for the practice’s branch surgeries at Ripponden and Walsden and has a large car park where on-site mobile MRI and CT scanner units can be easily accessed.
Hird & Partners is one of very few independent veterinary practices left in Halifax and provides its own on-site outof-hours emergency service.
Eddie Burt, Partner BVSc, MRCVS explains: “In our new premises we fully intend to continue and upgrade our out of hours services. We believe it is important and reassuring to our clients that they have the consistency of seeing our own team of vets in a familiar environment at anytime of the day or night.” Hird & Partners holds the prestigious Tier 2 accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and many of the team are members of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA), ensuring they remain up-to-date with the latest advances in veterinary medicine and surgery.

The season commences on the 1st April 2014. The pre-season meeting is at Ripponden Conservative Club on Monday 17th March commencing at 7.30pm.

The free Heartstart Course will teach you how to: • Perform effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) • Recognise and treat someone having a heart attack • Care for an unconscious casualty • Help someone who is choking • Manage serious bleeding • Learning these simple skills could help you save a life. Heartstart UK is an initiative co-coordinated by the British Heart Foundation to teach members of the public what to do in a life-threatening emergency: simple skills that can save lives. It provides opportunities for people to learn the vital skills of ELS. Through Heartstart UK the BHF aims
to strengthen the chain of survival by promoting and supporting ELS training in the community. Heartstart courses will be run in the Ryburn Valley and will offer practical advice, whilst encouraging discussion on improving resuscitation knowledge and practice. The course requires no medical skills and illustrates that the benefits that CPR performed by a bystander in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest are significant. If you can perform effective CPR whilst the ambulance is on its way you can more then double a person’s chance of survival. The next courses are being held at Brig Royd Surgery, Ripponden on Monday 16th March and then at Station Road Surgery, Sowerby Bridge on Tuesday 17th March.
