recognized as an integral part of the total educational process. The athletics program is designed to contribute to the development of the student-athlete’s health, fitness, leadership skill and respect for others. Wright State University’s intercollegiate athletic representatives are student-athletes, coaches and staff who are instructed on and dedicated to the principles of fair play and amateur competition as defined by the rules of the NCAA. Lynn curylo

head coach • First season

Lynn Curylo, an assistant coach at the University of Illinois for two seasons, was named the 10th head coach in Wright State softball history on October 29, 2010. While at Illinois, Curylo assisted with pitching and catching, outfield and offense. In the two years

that she was part of the coaching staff, the Fighting Illini posted a record of 74-25, including a 28-9 mark in the Big Ten. After the 2009 squad went 29-17 overall and 12-7 in conference, Illinois went 45-8 in 2010, 16-2 in the Big Ten, and finished second at the NCAA Columbia Regional behind Missouri. Before going to Illinois, Curylo was an assistant at Tennessee State for two seasons. During her first season in 2007, the Tigers finished 35-23, the first winning season in the history of the program. In the last four

years, two at Illinois and two at Tennessee State, Curylo has been involved with 125 wins. Prior to her time at Tennessee State, Curylo was the head coach at Milikan High School in Long Beach, California, from 2001-06. She led the team to the CIF championship in 2005, earning Coach of the Year honors for the accomplishment. Curylo has a connection with Horizon League softball history as she played for UIC from 1994-97, with the Flames a part of the Midwestern Collegiate

Conference (now the Horizon League) the final three years. A standout outfielder, she was a First Team All-MCC selection in 1996 and 1997 and is currently fifth on the school’s all-time list in triples with 12. Curylo was part of the 1994 UIC squad that won 53 games and advanced to the College World Series. During her career, the Flames won 198 games overall and posted a league mark of 58-3. Curylo earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UIC in 1998.

dave brittingham head coach • sixth season

Dave Brittingham is in his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Wright State softball program. Brittingham is retired from General Motors/Delphi with 36 years of service. He retired as an Employee

Assistance Professional (EAP), earning certifications in EAP and Chemical Dependency. Brittingham attended Sinclair Community College (labor studies) and Ohio State (addiction studies) before earning a degree in counseling from Corllins University. He served in the Military from January 1967 until July 1970 doing tours in the Mediterranean and Vietnam. He earned the Distinguished

Flying Cross and three air medals while serving in Vietnam. Brittingham has played and coached for 40 years. After first playing fast pitch in the military, Dave coached in the Xenia baseball program for nine years, six as an assistant and three as head coach compiling a record of 4635. Brittingham began coaching in the Miami Valley Xpress (one of the top travel ball organizations

in Ohio) in 1987. He has coached the 18u teams since 2001, including the summer and fall college tour team. His teams have had two seventh place,a fifth place and a third place finishes in World Series play. All players that played for Brittingham since 2001 have went on to play in college with over half going on to play at the Division I level. Brittingham lives in Xenia with his wife Julie.

kristen bradshaw

Student assistant • first season

After concluding an outstanding playing career for Wright State last season, Kristen Bradshaw returns to the Raiders in 2011 as a student assistant coach. In 2010, Bradshaw was a First Team All-Horizon League honoree as she appeared in the league top 10 in eight categories, including batting average (7th at .352), on-base percentage (3rd at .448), runs scored (1st with 52), hits (4th with 70), doubles (tied for 3rd with 14), triples

(tied for 5th with 3), walks (1st with 33), stolen bases (2nd with 38) and fielding assists (1st with 159). Bradshaw was also named the MVP of the Horizon League Tournament as she collected seven hits with seven runs scored and six stolen bases. She also received the tournament’s Defensive Award for her play at shortstop. A Second Team AllLeague selection in 2009, Bradshaw led the league that season in fielding assists, tied for second in triples and was fifth in runs scored and ninth in stolen bases. In 2008, Bradshaw was named First Team AllLeague as she ranked eighth nationally in RBI with

65. She tied for the league lead in triples and ranked second in hits, RBI and total bases, third in slugging percentage, fourth in runs scored and fifth in home runs and stolen bases. As a freshman in 2007, Bradshaw was selected Second Team All-League as she batted .297 with five home runs and 34 RBI along with 41 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. During Bradshaw’s career, Wright State won three Horizon League Tournament titles (2007, 2008, 2010) and appeared each of those seasons in the NCAA Regionals. She had two hits and two RBI against Michigan as a sophomore and had three hits and three RBI in three

regional games in 2010, with two of the RBI coming versus Notre Dame and the other in WSU’s win over Illinois State. Entering this season, Bradshaw is Wright State’s all-time leader in games played and started, at bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, total bases, RBI and fielding assists. She also ranks in the Raider career top 10 in batting average, triples, home runs, slugging percentage, walks, on-base percentage and stolen bases. A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, Bradshaw is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.

student assistant • first season

After wrapping up a solid four-year playing career for Wright State last season, Briauna Birl returns to the Raiders in 2011 as a student assistant coach. In 2010, Birl hit .329 as

she split time between the outfield and behind the plate. She scored 41 runs and stole 23 bases. Defensively, Birl threw out 15 basestealers. As a junior, Birl finished tied for second in the Horizon League in triples with three and was third in batting average at .370. In 2008, Birl hit .306 with 22 runs scored and six stolen bases. She recorded the game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the

seventh in the league tournament opener against Loyola. As a freshman in 2007, Birl received the league tournament’s Defensive Award for her play in center field. She had 34 hits and scored 20 runs. During Birl’s career, Wright State won three Horizon League Tournament titles (2007, 2008, 2010) and appeared each of those seasons in the NCAA Regionals. She had two

hits and two RBI against Notre Dame in last year’s regional and two hits in WSU’s win over Illinois State. Entering this season, Birl is third on the WSU all-time list in games played and started and appears in the top 10 in at bats, runs scored, hits, triples, sacrifices and stolen bases. A native of Texarkana, Texas, Birl is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in mass communication.
