Help protect a threatened landscape Across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire agricultural intensification, urban development and climate change have all had an impact on our landscape over the last century. Meadows have been ploughed up, wetlands drained and hedgerows removed. Many of our precious wildlife species are in decline or dangerously close to extinction. The Wildlife Trust is determined to do something about this. Our mission is to create a landscape where wildlife can flourish and recover from past decline. We will provide a space for nature to thrive that can be enjoyed by people too. And we will work with local communities to raise awareness and understanding about how they can care for the wildlife on their doorstep.

The last time the UK’s wildlife faced a challenge on this scale was at the end of the last ice age. We need to find ways to help our wildlife become more resilient to the trials it faces in the 21st century. We must now work on a landscape scale if we are to give wildlife a chance and allow future generations to enjoy nature as we have.

Past...

Help create a Living Landscape The Wildlife Trust has been a guardian for nature and managed reserves right across the three counties, for many years. We need to continue protecting these vital spaces and connecting them together to create Living Landscapes.

Living Landscapes...  create space for mammals to move around, places for wild flower seeds to settle and grow, birds to forage and butterflies to find nectar

...present

 are good for people. A healthy environment reduces soil erosion and gives us clean air and water. It gives us places to enjoy and explore  mean we can connect the small populations of wildlife clinging to little pockets of land, achieving much more for wildlife preservation

The Wildlife Trusts’ vision of a Living Landscape is not just that the wild world will exist in isolation but that we will all benefit from being reconnected to the real world; the blossom, the bugs, the birds, the beasts!
