From the outdoor space and the spa to the grand central atrium, the ship is impressive – evoking a glamourous and contemporary style as soon as you step on-board. There are plenty of spaces to dine and drink outside, including the Aurea Bar which is strictly for Aurea Experience guests. There are five categories of accommodation on-board MSC Seaview, including three MSC Yacht Club Suites – Interior, Deluxe and Royal. The concept of the MSC Yacht Club is the perfect exclusive experience – a ship within a ship. Offering exclusive access to bars, restaurants and other areas during your time on-board, as well as butler service, gourmet cuisine and unlimited drinks in specified venues. The Yacht Club is definitely something I would recommend – allowing you to experience

On arrival, we received soft drinks, coffees and pastries, noticing both ships were well decorated and colourful Oriana is leaving the fleet in August 2019, so she did look a bit older.
Most of us would definitely pay to go onboard these ships, with plenty of different bars and restaurant areas to enjoy. All the food and entertainment on-board both are in-line with “Perfect for British tastes. All of the staff couples or are happy to help with any requests and are friendly and first-time approachable. cruisers”
uninterrupted access to bars, restaurants and other areas around the ship, as well as butler service, exclusive restaurants and plenty more benefits, it really makes you feel special on-board. MSC Seaview also has a dining package, The Trio – Three distinct dining experience package. This gives you the opportunity to sample three speciality restaurants with a set menu. The restaurants were the: Butcher's Cut Steakhouse, a stylish steakhouse serving prime cuts alongside delicious dishes; Ocean Cay Seafood Restaurant, offering some of the freshest ingredients to create mouth-watering fish dishes; and the Pan Asian Market Kitchen, designed alongside awardwinning Chef Roy Yamaguchi offering an unforgettable culinary experience. My personal favourite was the Asian Market, with a great choice of freshlyrolled sushi, meat and fish dishes. It's a perfect fusion of Hawaiian and Japanese - which Chef Yamaguchi has mastered. That being said, steakhouses are reliably good on-board cruise ships and the Butcher's Cut was no exception. I really think MSC Seaview is a worthy addition to the MSC Cruises fleet, with a sensational range of restaurants, comfortable staterooms for all and a lineup of entertainment to keep you happy from day to night.

Some of our favourite things include the food; the spa facilities, the kids’ clubs; the Tiffany Bar on-board Oriana; the English Pub; and the deck promenade on-board Azura. One of us enjoyed visiting the ships so much that they are looking into booking a holiday on-board!
Rachel Harrison
Both ships were great to see, with relaxing atmospheres, though we felt that Oriana would cater to an older client base. Azura is well-catered to families and would suit both those who are new to cruise and who have cruised before.
Joining the MSC Cruises’ fleet in June, MSC Seaview is the second ship to join the Seaside Class following MSC Seaside in 2017

with dishes including fillet steak with chorizo mash potato which was very nice. Throughout both ships, the staff in the bars and restaurants were friendly and happy to accept any requests, we felt that all the restaurants cater to British tastes and that there would be something for everyone on-board.
We saw a number of cabins on-board both ships, all of which offer modern facilities. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and English plug sockets, which is great for those cruising from the UK. Azura’s cabins were much more modern and spacious, whereas those on-board Oriana seemed a little dated but this could be due to her coming to the end of her sailing season. The Inside stateroom was spacious, perfect for couples or first-time cruisers. You can even change the channel on the TV to an outside camera, which compensates for not having a window! Both ships are very well-suited to British tastes and would be a great first-time cruise for those sailing from the UK. Onboard Azura, the staff in Epicurean were very knowledgeable and took their time to show their skills in an interesting and engaging way. As Oriana is a strictly adults-only ship, she would be perfect for older couples and those with children who don’t live at home.
Independence of the Seas fter sailing for ten years, Royal Caribbean refurbished Independence of the Seas in May this year, unveiling sparkling new facilities and stunning interiors that make the ship feel brand new. Members of our Marketing team stepped on-board following her multi-million pound makeover to explore the thrills, fun and excitement now on board. From the minute we entered the cruise terminal, staff were smiley and friendly, guiding us to our rooms and helping us find our way around.

Q&A with MSC Cruises What is your favourite cruising memory?
As the cruising industry prepares for the launch of MSC Bellissima and MSC Grandiosa, MSC Cruises continues to grow and expand their sensational fleet. We had the privilege of speaking with Managing Director, Antonio Paradiso on his insight and plans for MSC Cruises over the coming years. Tell us a little about MSC Cruises... AP: MSC Cruises is the world’s largest privately-owned cruise line, and the biggest cruise line in Europe. We visit 191 different ports every year and offer 225 itineraries worldwide including a 116-night world cruise. The Company is owned by the Aponte family and is part of the MSC Group which also includes the Cargo and Ferries business. As the fleet expands, we are seeing many new and innovative features on-board your cruise ships. Which are you most excited about? AP: At MSC Cruises we are constantly innovating, whether that be installing the latest technology, seeking new internationally-renowned chef partnerships or developing our onboard entertainment programme. MSC Bellissima will be launching in March next year and I’m very excited about the new features on the ship. From meeting Zoe, the digital personal assistant that will feature in every cabin, to seeing the two brand new Cirque du Soleil at Sea shows there’s so much to get excited about. What is something everyone should experience on-board their MSC Cruise? AP: It has to be the huge variety of dining options. On-board MSC Meraviglia there are 12 unique dining venues from a British Pub serving fish and chips to the sushi bar that overlooks the promenade. There are some really good dining packages that you can buy in advance that allow you to experience several of the speciality restaurants at a reasonable cost. If it’s the main dining room then make sure to try our amazing focaccia made fresh every day or our signature pasta dishes.
18 Cruise118.com
AP: I was born in Brighton and grew up in Naples so I’ve spent most of my life by the sea. When I was younger I watched the ship’s come into the port hoping one day I’d get to travel on such a glamorous ship so working for MSC Cruises really is a dream for me. More recently it has to be the launch of MSC Meraviglia in Le Havre France. The launch marked the start of our new phase of expansion which was a real milestone for MSC Cruises. What is one thing that MSC Cruises simply couldn’t exist without? AP: That’s an easy one – our people. We have over 17,000 people working for us worldwide from over 130 countries and yet we all function as one big family. From the crew onboard, to the shore side staff we all share a passion for what we do which makes working for MSC truly unique. What advice would you give someone cruising with MSC for the first time? AP: The same advice I’d give to someone going on any cruise for the first time – be open minded. Cruising is a really unique type of holiday that provides the opportunity to visit up to seven different destinations in seven days, all without unpacking a suitcase. At MSC Cruises we carry guests from over 170 countries so the international atmosphere onboard is something that really sets us apart, embrace the new cultures and experiences and you’ll love your MSC Cruise. With the ten-year investment plan in place, where do you expect MSC Cruises to be once this comes to a close? AP: One thing I’ve learned during my 10 year career with MSC Cruises is that we are restless in our approach, so although the next 10 years is pivotal for us it won’t be the end of our journey. What we know for sure is that by 2026 our capacity will have more than doubled to 5.2 million passengers making us a major player in the global cruise industry. If you didn’t work in the cruise industry, what do you think you would be spending your time doing now? AP: I have a huge passion for music and when I was younger I always wanted to be a DJ. I loved the idea
of working with music and getting to travel the world. I’ve been very lucky that my travel dream came true and through working with MSC Cruises and my personal passion I’ve had the opportunity to visit over 100 countries but there’s still lots more on my bucket list.
A summer like no other
With the launch of MSC Bellissima fast-approaching, what can you tell us about the ship that makes it stand out from the rest of the fleet? MSC Bellissima, alongside sister ship MSC Meraviglia will be the biggest ship in our fleet. She’ll carry 5,700 passengers, initially on seven-day cruises to the Mediterranean before moving to the Emirates sailing from Dubai. The ship will have new chef partnerships leading to two new restaurant concepts as well as a newly designed MSC Yacht club. What is it like to work for MSC Cruises? AP: At MSC Cruises every day is different. It’s a passionate and dynamic environment that I thrive on working in. We have a flat structure which I apply in the UK office, my door is always open for my colleagues and I encourage the development of new ideas and initiatives constantly. It also applies at a global level where our CEO allows the UK market to make changes to the MSC Cruises product depending on the needs of our country. This year we have enhanced the product on-board MSC Magnifica sailing from Southampton to include some British home comforts and the response has been great. Where is your ultimate cruising destination? AP: As I love to travel I’m not sure I could pick just one so I’m going to be cheeky and say I’d love to do a World Cruise. The opportunity to visit 43 different ports across 23 countries is amazing and our 2020 itinerary has some destinations I’d love to explore including an overnight stay in Ushuaia, Argentina. MSC Cruises will be launching two new ships in 2019, MSC Bellissima and MSC Grandiosa, with a further six ships set to join the fleet by 2026. It's certain that as the cruise line expands, MSC Cruises will continue to offer their sensational service accompanied by elegant design, delightful dining and award-winning entertainment.

Take a first look at Celebrity Edge ue Written by S
‘The rule book has been ripped up!’
Bryant
Telegraph.co.uk
The new Celebrity Edge is without doubt the most talked-about ship of 2018 in cruising circles, and for good reason. As well as being packed with hightech features that have never been seen before at sea, Edge is exceptionally beautiful, epitomising Celebrity’s quest to embody ‘modern luxury’. Edge is a big ship, with a capacity of 2,918, but a surprisingly serene ship, as well. There’s a real sense of connection to the sea, with vast expanses of glass allowing uninterrupted views, and high ceilings providing a sense of space. The cabins, suites and spas were designed by Kelly Hoppen, of Dragon’s Den fame, and are beautiful; everything is curvy, or textured, inviting you to touch. Colours are all soothing neutrals: cream, taupe, soft grey and oatmeal, with bright splashes burnt orange or emerald green.
‘The ship set to shake-up the cruise scene’
Celebrity Cruises is clearly after the luxury customer with Edge. Some 12% of the accommodation is suites – more than twice that on the line’s other ships. All Suite Class guests have access to The Retreat, a ship-within-a-ship haven of a light and airy lounge, the Luminae fine dining restaurant and a stunning private deck furnished with pale grey and white loungers. Three basket nest chairs are suspended invitingly over the pool. There’s a wide choice of suites but two of the most exciting are the new ones. Six duplex Edge Villas, which open straight onto The Retreat’s deck, have whole walls of glass facing the sea and a private plunge pool on the balcony. The two Iconic Villas, which sit on top of the bridge wings, are even more lavish, with outdoor Jacuzzis, canopied day beds and cocoonlike loungers on a vast private deck with uninterrupted views.

There’s plenty more to explore. The spa is a peaceful oasis with all sorts of unusual features, not least massage beds made of healing crystals and an infrared sauna facing out to sea. In the state-of-the-art gym, Peloton bikes live stream spinning classes from the Peloton studio in New York, while classes include hot yoga, Bungee Fit and HITT (a form of high intensity training). You can’t help but notice the Magic Carpet, an al fresco chill-out lounge on a tangerine-coloured platform cantilevered over the water on the starboard side of the ship.

Written by Gary Buchanan Many new ships are showstoppers, but Norwegian Bliss has ground-breaking features never before seen at sea. The wow-factor stretches across all 20 decks of this 4,004 passenger titan. This ship takes all the best elements of Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet and presents them in one amazing seaborne experience. For the young at heart it’s possibly the ultimate fun ship; for lovers of fine cuisine it is a sure-fire winner; while those who seek top-notch entertainment will be in their element. One thing’s for sure, it’s impossible to miss the spectacular blue and white ocean-themed livery on the hull, created by marine-life artist Wyland.
Where to eat
Where to sleep
There are no fewer than 27 dining options including the new modern Texas Smokehouse ‘Q’ that features live country music. There’s also Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville at Sea or Los Lobos, both of which feature Mexican favourites. Ocean Blue offers the finest fresh seafood and has both inside and alfresco dining; while a reservation at the company’s popular Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant is a hot-ticket.
Accommodation options cater to all budgets and requirements - from extended families to single travellers. The thirty different grades include Inside, Oceanview and Balcony Staterooms as well as Mini-Suites. These provide superb comfort with separate shower, sink and bathroom areas. Each stateroom has two single beds that can convert into a queen-sized bed. There is also a full-sized flat-screen TV plus the option for connecting cabins and varying sizes. The much sought after Family Staterooms come in all sorts of combinations to suit all groups of passengers. There are also 82 funky Studio Staterooms for solo passengers; these have hip lighting as well as an unusual bathroom design and offer access to a dedicated lounge.
Tastes of Tuscany are bountiful at La Cucina; while Cagney’s Steakhouse, serving Premium Black Angus Beef, is hard to beat - as is the sublime French bistro. There’s also a trio of main dining rooms called Taste, Savor, and the Manhattan Room.

What I loved
Britain’s leading independent cruise line
The space-themed laser-tag is straight out of a Star Wars comic book and is great fun. I enjoyed an interactive battle with other gun– toting guests as we hunted for enemies against a spooky backdrop of an intergalactic bunker.
The 95 Haven Suites are Norwegian’s private top-tier accommodation and are perfect for families as well as passengers looking for the variety offered on a large ship while enjoying the privacy that’s the hallmark of a smaller one. The Haven Mini-Suites, Suites, Villas and Penthouses are located atop the ship near to the exclusive sundecks and pool. They feature round king-sized beds, special Bliss bedding, sitting room, private Jacuzzi, concierge service and 24hour butler service.
What to do The world’s largest onboard gokart circuit is nearly 1,000 feet long and spans two decks. The racetrack has 15 bends where you can challenge nine other racers at up to 30mph with sound effects making the karts simulate F1 cars. An Aqua Park boasts waterslides that loop 11-ft over the side of the ship 159-ft above the waves. For something less hi-energy, the Observation Lounge at the front of Deck 15 has floor-toceiling windows affording sweeping panoramas. Alternatively there’s the chance to chill-out in the Mandara Spa, a sophisticated retreat with heated stone loungers in its Thermal Suite; as well as a snow-room, steamroom, salt room, saunas and heated ‘vitality’ whirlpool. Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, tops the bill. Another highlight is ‘Havana’ which brings the sultry and seductive rhythms of Cuba in its 1950s heyday to life on stage with a large cast of seriously talented dancers. In the Cavern Club, with its backdrop of weathered brick and vintage posters, a Beatles tribute band — dead ringers for John, Paul, George, and Ringo — catapults the audience back in time with early Beatles hits one night and Sgt. Pepper tunes the next. There are 14 bars and lounges including the District Brew House which serves a variety of cocktails and craft beers from Red Hook Brewery and Elysian Brewery in Seattle; or there’s the Local - a pub with billiards and darts that serves food 24-hours a day. The Cellars offers an extensive wine list featuring varietals from Washington State vineyards, Tuscany and Robert Mondavi’s own Napa Valley Estate. Families are not forgotten as there’s the Splash Academy kids’ clubs for youngsters aged three to 12; teens have their own club which keeps them amused from morning ‘till late at night.

What’s the best cruise ship in the world?
It’s a common question. But with 314 cruise ships sailing at the start of 2019, how is it possible to say which is the best? The absolute best ship ever for one person, could be hell on the high seas for another! Our most popular ship Independence of the Seas If we look at the 2019 cruise holidays which have been booked so far by our customers, the most popular ship is Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. I didn’t even have time to squeal in delight as they sped underneath me, fanning out in perfect formation in pursuit of silvery shoals of fish before zipping away into the azure depths. This was only the second day of our Celebrity Cruises’ voyage around the Galapagos Islands aboard Celebrity Xpedition, but such mind-blowing wildlife encounters happened nearly every time I left the ship with my husband and twin 15-year-old daughters to explore this remote archipelago, lying 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. Snorkelling trips brought some of the most unforgettable experiences as we spied reef sharks skulking among the rocks, giant shoals of fish thousandsstrong, and turtles ponderously paddling along the ocean floor, stopping only to nibble on gently-wafting seaweed. But the real stars of this underwater show were the sea lions, who proved to be the ultimate marine playmates; effortlessly ducking and diving through the water
and clearly revelling in their new human friends as they skilfully twisted and somersaulted all around us. Such incredible experiences more than made up for the long journey. The Galapagos may have long been top of our wish-lists, but the 12-hour flight to Ecuador’s capital Quito via Amsterdam and onward journey to the islands, along with the time difference and resultant jet-lag, made it no easy option. I’d wondered if the demands of hilltop hikes, early starts, boat excursions and snorkelling trips might prove to be too much for our daughters, but the thrill of exploring this natural wonderland more than outweighed any negatives. Our trip had started with a two-night stay in Quito, giving us a full day to explore this mountainous city sitting at an altitude-challenging 9,000 feet and surrounded by a ring of dramatic volcanoes. Our 10-night package with Celebrity included an excellent full-day tour that took us into this Latin city’s colonial heart. We explored the cobbled streets of the 16th century Old Town on a walking tour that took us past Spanish-style balconied houses and unassuming stone churches that took our breath away when we peered inside to see glittering interiors literally dripping in gold – a legacy of the wealth discovered by early Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s. >>

A fun and factual diversion followed at the fascinating Intinan Solar Museum a short drive from the city, which lays claim to the equator running through its grounds and represented by a painted red line where visitors can be photographed with a foot in each hemisphere. Such an enjoyable day proved to be the perfect way to get acclimatised before leaving for the Galapagos island of Baltra the following morning on a two-hour flight. This part of the journey was quick and easy, and excitement ran high as drove to the dock and spotted our first bluefooted booby perched on a rock, a sea lion slumbering on the sands and a Galapagos marine iguana crossing the road in front of us. The 100-passenger Celebrity Xpedition was our comfortable home for the next week, with its cosy house-party ambience that meant we soon got to know our fellow passengers who ranged in age from seven years up to 86 years with a sprinkling of families and around 15 youngsters under 16. Most of our fellow passengers hailed from North America, though Brits made up the second-largest number with 15 of us, and with shared dining tables we soon bonded over meals of fine food in the main Darwin’s Restaurant and al fresco Beagle Grill, which was an ideal lunchtime spot. We quickly fell into the on board routine as everything was so impressively organised, especially the daily walks
ashore and Zodiac boat trips, while the Ecuadorian crew who matched friendliness with efficiency were another big plus. On our first morning we followed in the footsteps of naturalist Charles Darwin as we landed in the same spot where he stepped ashore in 1835, though I don’t know if he was as excited as we were at spotting a bunch of sleepy sea lions slumped on the sands. As our August visit coincided with baby sea lion season, we only walked a few steps before coming across two-week old pups suckling from their mothers, and completely unbothered by our presence. A little further on and we encountered curious Galapagos finches and American mockingbirds that inquisitively hopped around our feet; pink flamingos wading through a brackish lagoon; and thousands of bright scarlet crabs scuttling over black volcanic rocks. The islands’ rugged landscapes and stunning viewpoints were also a major draw, particularly on our final day when we travelled into the lush highlands of the main isle of Santa Cruz (which surprisingly has a 20,000-strong population) to visit the giant tortoise breeding centre.
Bringing the world closer
Around 40,000 of these hulking creatures still roam wild here and we soon glimpsed them grazing in surrounding fields or ambling along country tracks, oblivious to the cars and trucks forced to drive around them.
