Iona Queen Mary 2

I stayed in a conservatory Mini Suite on-board P&O Iona, which was stunning, spacious and wonderful throughout in terms of layout and storage. The ship was big, but easy to navigate and I really enjoyed exploring.

I enjoyed a cocktail in the Crow’s Nest, which was a great place to watch the world go by, and a trip to the famous Gin Distillery on-board - which was the perfect addition to my trip.

My top tip: order breakfast to your balcony on a sea day for a relaxing start to your day whilst taking in the waves.

Embarking the legendary Queen Mary 2 was quick and easy, and welcome on-board was fantastic thanks to the service of the bellhops. The ship was decorated in a typical classical style, with a stunning art-deco interior.

We dined in Princess Grill, Queens Room, Kings Court, Steakhouse at Veranda and we had room service – all of which were fantastic and delivered hot, delicious food and exceptional service. Despite the ship being at capacity, not one venue felt overcrowded.

The cabin offered a surprising amount of space, with a large walk-in-wardrobe, spacious bathroom and a large balcony with 2 comfy loungers.

We’ve been on-board!

I sailed with Ambassador Cruise Line on-board their ship, Ambassador Ambition, and I loved it. The service was amazing, and the crew are incredibly friendly; they couldn’t do enough for us and knew us all by name within a day!

I’d definitely recommend taking advantage of the spa while you’re on-board. The facilities are great and services that are provided leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! Plus, the best part is that access to the onboard spa is complementary!

Explore the entertainment options on sea days, or of an evening if you’re looking for what to do. There’s a great variety of different things including incredible theatre shows, live music and even quizzes!

PS, if you’re a foodie, my top tip is to try the Saffron and Butter Chicken – it’s insanely good!

May marked the maiden voyage of Queen Anne, the first ship from Cunard in 14 years! We were lucky enough to not only get on-board but also to attend the naming ceremony in June in Liverpool, Cunard’s spiritual home. The cruise line broke away from tradition, naming the City of Liverpool as Godparent of this beautiful new ship, in honour of its birthplace.

The arrival of Queen Anne marks the first new ship for the cruise line in 14 years and she provides a wonderful on-board experience for guests.

One of my favourite areas on the Nieuw Statendam is the Observation Deck, which has panoramic views across the front of the ship and also serves as a casual lounge (to take in the amazing views), with a dedicated café bar, library, games area, puzzle tables and so much more.

I sailed with Fred. Olsen on-board the fantastic ship, Borealis in a Balcony Suite, which was lovely with plenty of storage, lots of light and great amenities.

All of the art on the ship was beautiful and was handpicked by Mr Olsen’s wife which varied in style; some was bright and colourful, some abstract and there was even a painting of Great Grandmother Bolete Olsen. Some of the statement pieces of furniture in the public areas were very grand and opulent, giving a real 5 Star feel.

I had traditional afternoon tea in The Observatory, however of an evening/ nighttime there was the ‘Oceans Trio’ house band singing a real mix of tunes from all tastes of music. There was one Karaoke night in this venue and the assistant cruise director Tom also did a little solo spot singing his favourites. This was also the late-night venue with a DJ playing requests until 2am each night for if you wanted to enjoy the music later into the night.
