From Ullandhaug Tower, you will get a bird’s eye view over the city and the Ryfylke Fjords. You’ll be able to view the outside of Stavanger Cathedral, which was built of stone in the 12th century. The Cathedral was erected by Bishop Reinald from Winchester, England, in 1125, after King Sigurd Jorsalfar (the Crusader) made Stavanger to a cathedral town. The well-preserved Middle Ages cathedral was originally erected in Anglo-Norman style, but after a fire in 1272, the vestibule was rebuilt in Gothic style. You will also enjoy a guided walking tour of both the Old Town and the modern part of town, plus you will have some free time to experience Stavanger and to shop for souvenirs before returning back to your cruise ship.

Duration: 4 hours

Adults: £90pp Children: £75pp

Bondhusvatnet Lake.

The village of Olden is situated at the end of the innermost arm of lovely Nordfjord, which cuts its way inland to the mighty ice fields of Europe’s largest glacier, the Josterdal Glacier. Your destination on this tour - Briksdal Glacier - is part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. Leaving Olden’s port we will pass two picturesque churches and the beautiful lakes of Floren and Olden. At the end of the valley lies Rustøen, which is surrounded by numerous waterfalls, tumbling from the ice field. The road ascends through woodlands to the Briksdalen Inn, where we’ll leave the transportation. The powerful Briksdal Glacier swoops down from a height of 1200m to the lush, narrow Briksdal Valley and when we arrive at Briksdal Fjellstove, the ‘Troll cars’ will be waiting to take you safely to where the road ends at the famous glacier.

Briksdalsbreen Glacier.

The Troll cars trip crosses the foaming glacier stream twice. We will then return to Briksdal Fjellstove, which has been the meeting place for hillwalkers and mountaineers in Briksdal for several generations. At the end of the visit to Briksdal, we will make our way back to the cruise port in plenty of time for your cruise ship’s departure.

Alesund Alesund, Norway Essential Collection Introduction to Alesund Highlights See the picturesque town of Alesund on this half-day tour.

Highlights: • Alesund • Aksla Mountain

Duration: 3 hours

Adults: £40pp Children: £37pp

Alesund City.

This half-day tour is a perfect introduction to Alesund, one of Norway’s most picturesque towns and home to its most important fishing harbour. Alesund lies at the mouth of Stor Fjord and is set on two islands which are connected by bridges - it has been described as the Norwegian Venice. As a result of the 1904 fire which destroyed most of the town, Alesund was rebuilt in stone instead of wood and is rich in a delightful art nouveau architecture of towers, turrets and medieval romantic facades. You’ll find an abundance of stone neo-Classical and neo-Gothic buildings, with multiple towers, coats of arms and simple but original bas-reliefs. The town also offers the fabulous views - you can take 400 steps up to the Kniven Overlook on Mount Aksla for a stunning panoramic view of Alesund bay and its surrounding mountains and offshore islands. You’ll get to enjoy free time in this enchanting town before your transportation returns you to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ship’s departure.

Next to Bryggen is the Bergenhus Fortress area, with its 12th Century royal stone hall - Haakon’s Hall - and the renaissance Rosenkrantz Tower. The city’s theatre, art gallery, fish and flower market and main concert hall (named after the composer Edvard Grieg) are all located in the city centre as well. We will make a photo stop at the Custom House Pier, which boasts a great view of the city centre and harbour area. During this tour, not only will you get to see picturesque wooden houses on narrow cobblestone streets and characteristic hamlets from the 18th and 19th century, but modern areas in the outskirts of the city, the Norwegian royal family’s Bergen residence and the beautiful nature that surrounds the city too. At the end of the tour you may choose to stay in the centre of Bergen. In this case we will drop off here for you to make your own way back to port at your leisure.
