West Virginia University offers a variety of services and programs to help student-athletes maximize their academic potential. Department staff members work with coaches, on campus student service providers and faculty to help student-athletes meet the unique demands of the classroom, the sporting arena and the personal-social challenges they face as developing adults. While many of the headlines center on the Mountaineers’ accomplishments on the court, WVU athletes have also made some noteworthy strides in the classroom. To help its student athletes achieve academic success, one of the nation’s finest facilities resides in the WVU Coliseum – The Athletic Academic Performance Center. The 8,000-square foot facility provides individual and group study areas, a plethora of computer stations and the latest in fingerprint technology used when signing in. Following the 2019-20 season, Giovanna Caputo, AnneSophie Courteau, Anastasiia Bovolskaia and Nicole roc all represented the Mountaineers on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Of the 45 student-athletes to make the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, Caputo and Roc were two of just 11 selections to achieve a perfect, 4.0 grade point average (GPA). The 2019-20 award winners marked the second consecutive first-team selection for Caputo and Courteau. In 2018-19, Bovolskaia and Roc were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.

It also marked the seventh straight season that at least three WVU student-athletes have been named to the first team.

West Virginia women’s tennis team was named an AllAcademic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the seventh consecutive year in 2019-20. Giovanna Caputo, Anne-Sophie Courteau, Anastasiia Bovolskaia and Nicole Roc were also was tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012-13, 50 studentathletes have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams, including 29 first-team selections, four second-team selections and 17 all-rookie selections.
