Clear Bevels Clear glass bevels provide exceptional depth and radiance with their three dimensional brilliance. They are hand made from 5mm glass and when

combined with lead profiles and coloured glass effect films, they create a stunning focal point for any fanlight design.

Glue Chipped Glass Bevels A further option, and one that gives our bevel designs an added dimension, are these clusters with a textured surface finish. By enhancing the relief effect they bring a spectacular sparkle to our designs. They are made by glue-chipping the glass - a traditional technique that creates a fern effect of clear and frosted glass RBF 28

Glass Jewels As you would expect, a design using our range of glass jewels is certainly more exquisite. They are available in five striking colours - amethyst, aquamarine, blue, green and red as well as clear. Their extra facets create even more stunning light effects and they work beautifully in designs that incorporate glass bevels and coloured films. RBF 7I

Overview The Fanlight designs shown in this brochure are constructed using the highest quality overlay products which have been used successfully in Decorative Glass applications for many years and have gained a reputation for quality and reliability. RTF ‘Traditional Fanlights’ utilise lead profiles and high performance Stained Glass Art Film in a variety of colours and textures. RBF ‘Bevelled Glass Fanlights’ are constructed using hand made bevelled glass pieces permanently bonded to the window glass, combined with lead profiles and Stained Glass Art Film.

Quality Standards All the Fanlights are normally manufactured into insulated glass units to be installed in modern high performance window systems.

The products are manufactured within the scope of 1S0900I:2000 and conform to the latest European quality BSENI279 which guarantees high standards of both thermal insulation and long life.

Design and Colour Options and Limitations

Film and Lead Colour Options Lead finishes and Film colours used are suggestions and therefore may be changed. Swatches are available showing alternative colours. Bevel Size Limitations Designs shown in the brochure are based on a Fanlight size of 520mm wide by 350mm high but usually can be adapted to fit most other Fanlight sizes. However, glass bevels are standard sizes and for smaller Fanlights consideration should be made of their suitability in an overall design.

Technical Performance Stained Glass Art Film These materials are polyester based and have excellent UV resistance due to the high performance ink systems. They are colour stable and conform to BSENI279 requirements. Lead Profiles All lead profiles use high performance pressure-sensitive adhesive for permanent application to windows which is guaranteed for a minimum of I0 years. Lead Oxidisation Like any natural product exposed Page 14

to the environment, self adhesive lead will undergo a level of atmospheric transformation. This is normal and occurs because the lead oxidises to form a naturally protective film on the surface. It will eventually settle down to take on the ‘weathered lead’ appearance that is admired in old buildings. Soldered Joints Some of the Fanlights show the joints soldered. This is to give a more traditional appearance only and does not have any effect on the technical performance. Soldered joints are only available on Fanlights where natural lead is used, and not where coated lead is used. Bevel Adhesives Bevels are permanently bonded to the window glass using an adhesive system that has been weather and time tested to conform to ASTM-G53-94 standards.

Cleaning and Maintenance Fanlights can be cleaned regularly using water based proprietary glass cleaners. Always avoid the use of any cleaners that may contain solvents or have an abrasive effect on the surface cleaned.

Photographic and Printing Limitations

Due to the nature of the printing process, colours in real light conditions may vary slightly from those shown in the brochure. Stained Glass Art Film colour samples are available to verify colour.

Resin Art offers an alternative, lead free decorative glass option that is cost effective and very weather resistant. The designs are manufactured using state of the art resin dispensing equipment to create the outline and the colours are hand applied.

Overlay Art is the most commonly used system for creating decorative glass in the UK and is a simulation of original stained glass techniques. The designs are created by applying high quality UV stable film materials to the glass surface and finishing-off with fine authentic lead lines. The addition of bevelled glass shapes in some designs adds a 3-dimensional quality to the glass. With this option, it is possible to change colours in the design and we offer several alternate lead colour options including a brass effect. All the designs in this catalogue are shown with our recommended colourways and antique finished lead. For options please refer to the colour swatches. With Overlay Art all the components are applied to the outer leaf of the insulated glass unit with the bevels facing out. A variety of patterned backing glasses are available if you require more privacy.

All the designs in the brochure are shown with the popular metallic Pewter outline but other colour options are available including brass, copper, black or clear by special order. A variety of backing glasses are available if more privacy is required.

Fusion Art is a clean contemporary look where individual pieces of kiln fused glass are bonded to the external face of a traditionally etched glass surface.

The Brass and Zinc art designs are created using traditional cut glass and genuine brass or Zinc caming. The Brass and Zinc art products use age old manufacturing techniques with modern materials to create stunning designs.

Fused Glass is used extensively in Europe and is made by heating compatible glasses until they become soft and ‘fuse’ together. We have shown in the catalogue some suggested colour options and all our fused tile designs are available in a range of 4 colourways - blues, red/yellows, greens and black/greys - to match most coloured doors.

All the designs are only available as triple glazed units where the decorative element is encapsulated inside an insulated glass unit. This creates an easy to clean and maintenance free product. Due to the manufacturing techniques involved it is not possible to change glass types or came colours from those shown in the catalogue.

As the designs are made using etched sandblast glass, patterned backing glasses are not required.

QUALITY OF VISION double glazing Double glazing provides a high standard of vision. The following is a guide to the quality to expect

How to do a professional check Stand in the room no less than 2 metres away from the panes and look directly through them. For toughened, laminated or coated glasses, stand no less than 3 metres away. Do so in natural daylight, but not in direct sunlight. Exclude from the check the 50mm wide band around the edge of the glass.

What to expect Flat transparent glass, including laminated or toughened (tempered) glass is acceptable if the following are neither obtrusive nor bunched: • Bubbles or blisters, • Hairlines or blobs, • Fine scratches not more than 25mm long, • Minute particles. The obtrusiveness of blemishes is judged by looking through the glass, not at it, under natural light. Page 47

Special glasses Toughened glass may show visual distortions which are accentuated by reflections in double glazing. Such surface colourations and patterns do not indicate a change in physical performance. Laminated glass may have a few more blemishes due to it being made of several layers. Low emissivity coatings, which are now applied as standard to all new Sealed Units, to comply with Building Regulations; may produce transient visual effects. In oblique lighting the coating may look like a transparent film. When light coloured objects such as net curtains are placed close to the glazing they will look slightly darker.

Double reflection This occurs in certain light conditions. It is caused by multiple surface reflections in double glazing which may vary from pane to pane.

Brewster’s Fringes - the rainbow effect Small transitory rainbow effects are sometimes produced by the glass deflecting light. Their appearance is due to the high quality flat glass sheets being placed parallel to each other.

Patterned glass The above does not apply to patterned glass as its manufacturing process is different.
