THE HOLIDAY ISSUE Nov/Dec 2011 / ISSUE 20
LETTER TO YOU THE HOLIDAY ISSUE
As we come to the end of a challenging year, we have an amazing opportunity to reflect on the changes we have personally and globally encountered. If there is one thing I have learned in 2011, it is that change is an inevitable and necessary part of life, and requires an intense dose of faith, passion and determination, often during moments of exhaustion, lack of inspiration, and doubt. However, in these moments we are able to define our character, and design our lives by staying true to ourselves, and our dreams. In embracing change, we allow for growth and new beginnings, when to resist it only keeps us stuck in the past.
and none more so than Cove Diary writer Leilani Munter, as she passionately seeks to save dolphins from slaughter in Japan, whilst Amazon activist, Beth Doane, fights for the rainforest and calls us to action regarding Brazil’s Belo Monte dam project. Leading eco journalist, Johanna Bjork encourages us to contemplate the important issue of nuclear power in a thought-provoking article, and leave it to five-time cancer survivor, Kelly Gallagher to make us giggle, yet inspire us to pause for thought in her guide to surviving the holidays.
During this year, we have witnessed the continual shift in weather patterns that have wrought ongoing damage through massive fires and floods. Politically, the upheaval in the Middle East has resonated a heavy weight in the quest for individual freedom. Financially, we have all been adversely affected by the on-going missteps in both the European and US money markets. I myself humbly admit to times when I have considered throwing in the towel, if not for the community around me that have encouraged me to keep going. To focus, push onwards and upwards, and find a new way forward.
We hope you are inspired to find your own moment of reflection, and enter 2012 with a renewed energy, passion and determination for a new beginning, a better self, and a brighter world.
I am continuously inspired by those I work with, 10
This issue is dedicated to the Best of 2011. Women that have overcome odds; men who have blazed trails; companies that keep the sustainable flame alive by creating products that cultivate environmental health and human happiness, and charitable organizations who stay committed to making the difference.
Happy Holidays,
Anna Griffin Editor In Chief, Coco Eco Magazine
