THE LOVE OF HORSES May-Jun 2010 / ISSUE 11
LETTER TO YOU For the Love of Horses
To say creating this issue has been a moving yet challenging experience is to say the very least. Each issue of Coco Eco Mag is special in its own right, and each comes with a set of new obstacles to overcome. However, Issue 11, For the Love of Horses, has been monumental, first as I reconnected with a long lost love, the horse. From there, has been the very real education in what is happening in our Equine community, beginning with the plight of the Wild Mustang. One of America’s treasures, it is heartbreaking to learn how these spiritual and sensitive creatures are being rounded up, facing slaughter and possible extinction. It’s thanks to our Fashion Editor Sarah Griffin Berns that both this issue and my awareness of the plight and conservation efforts for the American Mustang, even exist. A true horse lover, she brought the story and our stunning and impassioned cover girl, Tatjana Patitz to me, along with an introduction to Return to Freedom (RTF). RTF, founded by inspirational activist, Neda de Mayo is first and foremost in the field of preservation of this beautiful creature, and I was absolutely inspired to meet her, visit the sanctuary, and pledge Coco Eco Mag’s unconditional support to her cause. One need only spend a short time with these amazing animals

to be reminded of their sensitivity and inspiring ability to bridge the gap between humans and nature. There are many women to be thanked for this issue, and non other than Jen Boulden, Founder of Ideal Bite, and a true horsewoman to her core. She graciously stepped in as Guest Editor and guided us through the process. Others worthy of thanks include Ashley Paige, fashion designer and animal activist, who led us to Thundering Hooves Ranch just north of LA, for our fashion story, Spirit of Equus, with the help of her beautiful thoroughbred rescue, Angel. The boys are doing their part too, as we learn in Nicole Landers and Nora Johnson’s Men We Love: Heroes of the Horse. The greatest surprise of this issue has been to witness how many people genuinely share a deep-rooted affection for this majestic beast, and a heartfelt thank you to each and every contributor who jumped in to make this edition our most beautiful and meaningful yet. Kindest regards,
Anna Griffin Editor In Chief , Coco Eco Magazine
