The soul of Georgia is often considered to be in Tusheti and Khevsureti Provinces – beautiful, but widely unexplored area. A small ancient settlements are scattered throughout this wild landscape with Medieval watchtowers and fascinating views of snow-capped mountains, alpine meadows, roaring rivers and waterfalls. The locals have preserved traditional rituals and customs. Still inhabited dwellings are recognized by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The unique textiles of these regions are famous for beautiful embroidery often symbolizing pre-Christian sun cult of Georgia. Draft Itinerary - 12 days Day 1. Arrival in Tbilisi. Day 2. 4X4 drive over Datvisjvari pass (2676m) to Shatili, centre of Khevsureti Province ( 5-6 h drive). Continue to the first campsite close to the ruins of Mutso towers. Camp night. Day 3-5. Trek along Khonistkali river and over Atsunta Pass (3431m) to Tusheti villages of Girevi and Parsma to Chesho. Overnight at the local farmhouse. Day 6. Exploration of village Chesho with stunning views. Camp night. Day 7-8. Important For this expedition style ascent, an advanced technical level from expedition members is expected.Climbers should have experience in moving on snow and ice (2-3 UIAA) and be physically well prepared. Relevant experience – ascents to Mt. Mont Blanc, Mt. Monte-Rosa or similar. One should always remember the great altitude of this peak with its propensity for dangerous changes of weather. The Explore Georgia leader is responsible for the success and safety of the expedition, he will make decisions on the spot whether continue or not.

the Mountain of prometheus Mt. Kazbegi 5047m

A magnificent peak first climbed by Josef from Gergeti village in the 17th c, but officially the first ascent was made by the Englishman Douglas Freshfield, accompanied by local guides in 1868.

Excellent combination of trekking and climbing Chaukhi Mountain massif contains seven peaks with altitude from 3400m up to 3843m above the sea level and is an ideal playground for climbers of all abilities. Rocky cliffs of the mountains of mainly solid granite and diabase, offer excellent climbs of different difficulties from II to VI+UIAA, with lengths up to 700m. There is a perfect camping site at the foot of mountains, from where almost all routes are possible to climb in one day.

A mythological mountain, called mount Caucasus in ancient Greek legend, where Zeus punished Prometheus for giving fire to humankind and chained him to its cliffs.

Day 1. Arrival in Tbilisi. Day 2. Excursion to the ancient capital Mtskheta continue to north and visit Ananuri complex. Overnight in Kazbegi (1700m). Day 3. Trek to “Betlemi Hut” – 3670 m (6-7 hours). Day 4. Acclimatization walk towards the glacier to practise ice and rope techniques. Day 5. Move onto the glacier and continue below the South-West Face to the Maili Plateau at 4500m. Climb 20-25 degree slope to the saddle at 5000m, then the last part of 35 degree snowy/icy slope to the summit (about 6-8 hours). Retrace down to the hut (3-4 hrs). Day 6. Descend from Betlemi hut to Kazbegi and drive back to Tbilisi. Day 7. Free day in Tbilisi. Day 8. Departure.

Day 1. Arrive in Tbilisi. Day 2. Drive via Barisakho village to Khevsureti province for trek starting point at 2300m (2-3 h). Trek through the forest to the campsite near Roshka village (3.5-4 h). Camp at 2500m. Day 3. 2 hours trek along the valley will take you to the foot of the Main Caucasus Range, then steep ascent to Chaukhi Pass at 3338m and down to the base camp (6-7hours). Camp at 2600m. Day 4-6. Climbing the summits of Chaukhi massif, that is also called The Dolomites of the Caucasus’ offering excellent rock climbing not only for experts, but for the beginners as well. Overnight at the base camp. Day 7. Trek down to Juta village (1.5-2h) and drive back to Tbilisi. Day 8. Departure

Ski touring

Just 120 km north of Tbilisi, Gudauri ski resort, provides a wide choice for off-piste skiing, ski touring and Heli skiing/ snowboarding on the low summits (3000-3800m) grouped around Gudauri. Till the end of April skiers enjoy spring snow on the sunny southern slopes and excellent powder on the northern slopes. The total length of Gudauri ski pistes exceeds 57 kilometres and meets the highest international standards. The slopes are accessible via several platter lifts, moving carpets, chairlifts, and a cabin lift. The base lift is situated at 2000 meters above sea level and the top lift is at 3285 meters.

Sadzele (3360 m) and descend to Gudauri (3-4 h). Day 4. Climb Mt. Sadzele W plateau (3250m) - NW arete of Mt. Sadzele (2600m)-Mt. Bidara (3175m) descend to the Cross Pass (2395 m. 5-6 h). Drive to Gudauri (15 min). Day 5. Mt. Lomisa 2140 m. Drive to Aragvi gorge (15 min, 1500 m). Climb Lomisa range, descend to vill. Mleta (1500m, 5-6 h). Drive to Gudauri (20 min.). Day 6. Kobi Pass 2900 m. Ski-lifts to Kudebi plateau (2860m), climb to Kobi Pass, descend to village Kobi (1830 m, 3-4 h). Drive to Kazbegi (1700 m, 30 min.). Day 7. Kazbegi - the Betlemi Hut 3670 m. Ski-tour to the ex-Meteo station (6-7 h). Day 8. The Betlemi Hut - Peak Ortsveri 4360m Ski-tour to the saddle of Mt. Ortsveri (4210 m, 2-3 h). Ascent summit via Northern ridge (II UIAA. 350m, 1h) and descend (1.5-2 h). Day 9. Summit day - 5047 m, II UIAA. Ski up the glacier to Maili Plateau and then via North slope to the saddle at 4500 m. Ascent of summit via ice-snow slope (6-7 h). Descent to the Hut (2-3 h). Day 10. Descent to Kazbegi (2-3 h). Drive to Gudauri. Day 11. Back to Tbilisi (2-2,5 h). Time at leisure. Day 12. Departure.

Bakuriani Bakuriani is one of the most beautiful winter resorts of Georgia, located in Borjomi district on the northern slope of the Trialeti Range, at an elevation of 1,700 meters above sea level in sub-alpine zone. Ropeways, ski-tracks, cross-country skiing, horse-rides, horse-drawn sledges, and snowmobile – all can be found in Bakuriani. Over a dozen alpine runs and pristine off-trail slopes make Bakuriani a skier’s paradise. For professional and experienced skiers there is the Tatrapoma line. The Kokhta mountain (2150m.) and Didveli ski-runs are superb, while the region as a whole has the best cross-country skiing in Georgia.

Mestia Mestia is a new winter resort situated in the beautiful Svaneti region of north-western Georgia. Three ski routes have been built: a 2 600 meter long red ski run for professional skiers; a 2 670 meter long blue run for less experienced skiers; and a 300 meter long run for amateur skiers.

The biker’s tour starts from Tbilisi, passing through picturesque valleys and forests, over the exciting passes of Trialeti Plateau and along the impressive gorges of Adjaristskali, Borjomi, Alazani, Aragvi and Tergi.
