Dear Grey Oaks Members,
Wellness is one of the foundational aspects of Grey Oaks. We believe that a membership that is active in mind, body and spirit will be happy and healthy for years to come. Grey Oaks has been a leader and has taken a position in the club industry to bring forward new wellness ideas, programming, and facilities. Active, healthy living is part of what we do, and the visionary leaders and members who built the Wellness Center in 2017 helped start a trend in clubs that continues today. With our Lifelong Learning Lectures, recent Women’s Wellness Day, and other programming, our minds are also kept alert and active. We thank our members and staff who support us in these efforts.
Just like our minds and our bodies, the Club’s equipment and buildings age and need refreshing and improvements. One of the cornerstones of a great club is having plans and processes in place to continuously update and maintain facilities in good condition. Working with our Director of Facilities and Construction and the Board, we have set a series of investments driven by annual member capital payments to keep our facilities at their best.
In this issue of LIVING magazine, we look at the transformation that will occur this summer in our Wellness Center. The staff and I are excited about this refreshment of the space and equipment, as well as the new programming planned. We are also looking at best-in-class spas, wellness centers and medical spas to find additional amenities to meet your needs. The Club received feedback about your wants and desires in a series of member engagement forums in March, and we look forward to gathering more information in our Discovery survey this April. This data and information, as well as consultation from industry experts, help us shape personnel and programming going forward to match the new facilities and equipment.
As we all continue our personal journeys of transformation, we hope you Live Your Best Life and find new and interesting ways to utilize all parts of Grey Oaks in the coming weeks, months, and years. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of our dynamic and ever-changing organization.

Improve Your Golf Swing by Improving Your Athleticism
By Wil Girardeau, Assistant Director of FitnessRealistically, the more athletic people are the easier it is for them to improve their golf games. While adding a fitness component to your daily activities may seem like more effort than it’s worth, it doesn’t have to be as complicated as you may think. Utilizing an effective exercise program focused on strength, mobility and balance will only enhance your potential as a golfer and performance on the course.
TO STAY INJURY-FREE AND REACH THOSE LOFTY ON-COURSE GOALS, WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING FIVE FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS:
Rotation: Executing strong rotation through the legs, core and shoulders will keep you on the proper plane and improve consistency in your swing, allowing you to effectively turn into the ball, gaining power and distance in your swing.
Explosive Movement: Speed, agility, and quickness will help ensure stability and efficiency while shifting weight in the golf swing, creating a more athletic and consistent move.
Push and Pull: Vertical and lateral pushes and pulls (chest press, rows, shoulder presses, etc.) will ensure proper stabilization and control of the golf club to keep it on plane throughout your swing.
We highly encourage you to connect with one of our personal trainers who can set up a golf fitness program for you.
Many of our trainers are Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified in body/swing mechanics.
Contact our Assistant Director of Fitness, Wil Girardeau, at WGirardeau@greyoakscc.com and he will schedule a consultation for you with one of our highly-experienced trainers.

BRAIN MAPPING By The Good News Doctor
Dr. Mark DeBrincat, Grey Oaks Wellness Therapy
The human brain is an incredibly complex and intricate organ, responsible for our thoughts, emotions, actions, and overall well-being. Understanding its inner workings has been a quest for scientists and medical professionals for centuries. Thanks to advances in technology, we now have a remarkable tool at our disposal: Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) brain mapping. This innovative technique offers valuable insights into brain function, helping us harness its full potential and address issues that hinder optimal performance.
Understanding Brain Mapping
QEEG brain mapping involves recording and analyzing the brain’s electrical activity through sensors on the scalp. This process provides insights into different frequency patterns and their distribution across the brain, highlighting strengths and imbalances. By mapping your brain, medical professionals can better understand your unique brain patterns and provide the most effective care for your specific needs.
Why Should YOU Get Brain Mapped?
By obtaining a brain map, patients can gain insights into their brain’s electrical activity patterns, helping doctors detect potential issues early and formulate tailored treatment plans to maintain or improve cognitive function and overall brain health.
A brain map can be especially valuable for older patients as it allows doctors to monitor and assess changes in brain activity associated with aging, cognitive decline, or neurological conditions that become more prevalent with age. Early detection and intervention can significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals by addressing underlying neurological concerns promptly.
Schedule your Brain Map with Dr. Mark DeBrincat by April 30 and receive 20% off your service. Call the Wellness Center at 239-262-3478 to reserve your spot.
Revolutionizing Health
with Real-Time Glycocalyx Monitoring
By Lisa Sprague, MSS, PTA, LMT, Health & Wellness SpecialistIn the intricate tapestry of our circulatory system, the glycocalyx stands as a guardian, orchestrating the delicate balance of nutrient delivery, waste removal, and overall organ health. Beyond its significance in diabetes management, a cutting-edge monitoring tool called GlycoCheck takes center stage in unraveling the mysteries of our glycocalyx, offering real-time insights that pave the way for proactive health measures, personalized treatment plans, and disease prevention.
These early warning signs all point to Endothelial Glycocalyx Dysfunction:
Understanding the Glycocalyx
The glycocalyx, a micro-thin gel lining our capillaries, weaves its way through 60,000 miles, constituting a staggering 99% of our circulatory system. Its role in continuous nutrient and oxygen delivery, coupled with waste product removal, underscores its importance in maintaining optimal organ function.
Consequences of Glycocalyx Damage
Various factors, including poor nutrition, lack of exercise, stress, smoking, and genetics can lead to glycocalyx damage. This damage renders the vessel walls vulnerable to substances in the blood, causing scarring, plaque, clots, and calcification. The repercussions are profound, obstructing nutrient and oxygen delivery, compromising waste product removal, and setting the stage for silent onset conditions and diseases. Early warning signs of glycocalyx dysfunction include high blood pressure, cold extremities, type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, memory and hearing loss, and hair thinning. Numerous peer-reviewed studies link glycocalyx damage to heart and kidney disease, cancer metastasis, long-haul COVID-19 complications, dementia and more.
GlycoCheck Scan
To test your glycocalyx and obtain a real-time assessment of your microvascular system, a GlycoCheck Scan is now available at the Wellness Center. After 15 years of international research, this FDA class 1 medical device has been released to healthcare practitioners, with our Wellness Center proudly offering one of the first 30 systems in the United States.
What to Expect
The 15-minute GlycoCheck Scan involves placing a video microscope camera under your tongue. This live view allows you to witness the movement of your red blood cells through the smallest capillaries, providing a unique opportunity to visualize and understand your circulatory system’s health.
Post-Scan Consultation
Following the scan, I will schedule a follow-up consultation with you. During this session, a personalized report and video will be shared and a discussion will be held regarding your microvascular health score. Then, a plan will be set for the next steps on your journey to optimum health.
To schedule your test, contact the Wellness Center at 239-262-3478 or send an email to me at lsprague@greyoakscc.com. Once your appointment is set, I will contact you to relay pre-scan instructions and answer any questions you might have.
Hydrafacial vs. Mıcroneedling
By Aimee Magrath Spa Coordinator/EstheticianI’m often asked,
“ ”
Which is better: A Hydrafacial or a Microneedling treatment?
Both treatments are highly recommended for optimal skin health and rejuvenation; however, they are completely different processes with different goals and results. Let’s dive into the key points that differentiate these two popular spa services.
Overview of Microneedling
Microneedling is the process by which a motorized pen with 12 tiny sterile needles is passed over the skin. The needles move rapidly up and down perforating the surface. During this process, closely monitored by your esthetician, very controlled micro-damage occurs to the epidermis (upper most layer of the skin). This action triggers a healing response in the dermis (deeper layer where collagen synthesis takes place) and stimulates collagen production. Collagen, a protein made up of amino acids, gives the skin its structural support. Unfortunately, we lose 10% of our collagen every decade over age 30. Microneedling is the powerhouse treatment you need to rebuild your collagen and keep the collagen you have.
Steps of the Microneedling Treatment:
• Double cleansing
• Numbing cream applied (makes treatment comfortable for most clients)
• Skin prepped with alcohol
• Entire face and neck are needled (depth adjusted depending on area)
• Repair cream applied
• Post-care instructions and serum for home use given
Benefits of Microneedling Include:
• Increased collagen production
• Improved skin tone and texture
• Decreased pore size
• Eliminates fine lines
• Softens deeper furrows and wrinkles
• Breaks up discoloration
• Improves the appearance of scars
Microneedling Enhancement:
• Addition of Growth Factor (amps up results - highly recommended)
Overview of the Hydrafacial Platinum
The Hydrafacial Platinum is a facial like no other. The treatment utilizes a machine to deeply cleanse and resurface the skin, removing impurities from your pores with Hydrafacial’s proprietary vacuum technology. The skin is then infused with nourishing booster serums and antioxidants using Vortex-Fusion® technology and LED light therapy.
Steps of the Hydrafacial Platinum Treatment:
• Double cleansing - preps skin for machine
• Lymphatic drainage - moves stagnant lymph, “cleanses skin from within”
• Steps utilizing machine’s patented vacuum and vortex technologies:
• Exfoliation - removes dead skin cells
• Glycolic/salicylic acids- deeper exfoliation, preps skin for extractions
• Extractions - removes impurities (blackheads, sebaceous filaments)
• Targeted booster serums containing growth factors, brightening agents, peptides and antioxidants
• LED light therapy - drives serums down to the deeper layers of skin for optimal efficacy, stimulates collagen synthesis, soothes skin, combats breakouts
• Facial massage
• Finishing creams: moisturizer, eye cream, lip balm, SPF
Benefits of the Hydrafacial Include:
• Deeply cleansed pores
• Exfoliated epidermis
• Hydrated, plump, glowing, clear complexion
• Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
• Increased firmness, even tone and texture
• Treats brown spots
• Enlarged pores minimized
Hydrafacial Enhancements:
Dermaplaning - Take your Hydrafacial to the next level by including Dermaplaning to remove vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) and allow for even better product absorption and smoother make-up application.
Neck & Décolleté – Do not let your neck and décolleté be your “tell.” Include these areas in your treatment and keep the skin there looking its best!
Do not hesitate to invest in your skin. It is going to talk for you for a very long time.
Make an Appointment Today!
Now that you understand the difference between these two exceptional treatments, you can see it’s not an “either-or” decision, but rather a “when-when” decision, or should we say a “win-win!”
Schedule your appointment today by calling the Wellness Center at 239-262-3478.
