Over 50 Years of History In 1958, Naples was a sleepy fishing village with a few thousand residents. It was there that John Wood and his wife, Wanda, founded the Wood firm, at a time when Port Royal home sites were $7,500. Wood originally concentrated on selling land; he created “Walk on it before you buy” as the company slogan which immediately established the firm’s reputation for integrity….but after Hurricane Donna in 1960, the town saw its first growth spurt and the Wood firm began selling homes. The early 60’s saw new subdivisions at the “northern edge” of town, such as Coquina Sands and The Moorings. In future decades, it continued to grow with major communities such as Park Shore, Pelican Bay, Bonita Bay, and Pelican Landing. The completion of I-75, the significant size upgrade of the Ft. Myers airport, and the building of the Ritz Carlton and Registry Hotels combined to kick off a mid 80’s growth that grew Southwest Florida by thousands. For over 55 years, John R. Wood Properties has continued to thrive, receiving various awards, including being #1 in the nation for sales per agent, a true testimonial to the quality of the team.
