SECKOU KEITA: 22 STRINGS WITH SUPPORT FROM GWYNETH GLYN Fri 15 May: 7.30pm £14 Full (£12 Concessions)* Following the critical acclaim of his award-winning collaborative project with Welsh harpist Catrin Finch, the extraordinary Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita will be striking out in 2015 with a new solo album and UK tour. Variously described as a ‘griot (praise singer), composer, djembe master, virtuoso and pioneer’, Seckou is a rare type of musician, seated in tradition whilst constantly pushing the boundaries of his art. A true master of the kora - a 22 stringed West African harp - Seckou, from the Casamance area of Southern Senegal, was a childhood prodigy, born of a line of griots and kings. His last two albums Miro and The Silimbo Passage hit No.1 in the European world music charts, and Clychau Dibon, the fruit of his collaboration with Finch, won fRoots Critics Poll Album of The Year 2013, Songlines Magazine Best Cross Cultural Collaboration 2014, and two BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations. Seckou is joined by Gwyneth Glyn as support artist. Poet, writer and singer of songs, Gwyneth comes from Criccieth in North Wales and explores her own folk heritage in her own mother-tongue. Supported by the Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government and the National Lottery. * Credit/Debit Card Charge - 50p per transaction

He has toured extensively throughout the world and runs his own highly successful comedy franchise - Kill For A Seat Comedy.

“Massively engaging guitar-playing stand-up whose instinctive rapport with audiences makes him welcome wherever he goes.” Guardian Guide (Pick of the Week)

Jeremy Hardy begins his 4th decade as a stand-up, that’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 31 years ago… Last year, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”. However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio. He is on the road all year round and has never stopped doing live shows since 1984, and after briefly hibernating in the winter, he’s back!

Wyeside is an independent not-for-profit charity - so every penny we make goes straight back into our programme. We couldn’t manage without our funders - and the fantastic help and support we get from our incredibly loyal band of Friends and Volunteers. THANK YOU ALL!

FRIENDS OF WYESIDE The Friends’ subscriptions provide additional funding for special projects. In the past these have included match funding for recent major improvements to the arts centre building and facilities, including the refurbishment of the Market Theatre and Gallery, the installation of digital projection equipment, the new artists’ space, Window on the Wye, and repairs and renovations to the stonework of the historic building. Donate from £5 per month (£60 per year), or whatever you would like to give! WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Apart from playing a vital role in our future, Friends organise special events, receive quarterly newsletters from Wyeside, are entered into a monthly draw for free tickets, and will receive the brochure hot off the press! HOW DO I JOIN? If you would like to become a Friend of Wyeside either pop in and pick up a form from the box office, download one from our website, or request one from Miriam Hall by calling 01982 553668, or by emailing marketing@wyeside.co.uk.

VOLUNTEERS Wyeside’s volunteers play a vital role in our continuing success. They help us in myriad ways - stewarding for live events and films, working on our bars, or helping our publicity efforts. We give training to develop your skills and CV. You get to see live events and films free, and the chance to work with Wyeside’s friendly team as we present 1000+ shows every year. If you are 16 or over and want to get involved, please call our volunteer coordinator Owen Lawrence on 01982 553668, or email him at owen@wyeside.co.uk. WELCOME

THE PEOPLE’S THEATRE COMPANY Welcome to the third of our all-embracing new brochures, again packed full of outstanding shows. Our live programme really has something for everyone, from celebrity comic Jeremy Hardy to firm Wyeside favourites Limehouse Lizzy and Ballet Theatre UK. We’re keeping our roof-top satellite dish busy beaming in a stellar Satellite Live programme from around the globe. And we’ve got a full-to-bursting film calendar, with all the new blockbusters + some other titles we’re sure will fascinate you.

But Wyeside is not just about presenting great shows: it’s about giving new opportunities, too. So this spring we’re launching a brand new initiative - the Young Promotors Project - to get young people involved in producing professional music events. So this brochure features three very different - but equally superb - nights of music, all organised by Young Promoters!

(From now on we’re going to allocate seating for all our film screenings - not first come, first served. So book early to ensure you sit just where you want to!)

HOW THE KOALA LEARNED TO HUG Wed 1 April: 2.30pm £8.50 Adult (£7.50 Child/ Adult Concession) £28 Family ticket of 4* by Steven Lee Ages 3 and up! Running time: approx. 60 minutes. Based on the best selling book by Steven Lee and written especially for parents to enjoy with their children, How The Koala Learnt To Hug is a charming tale about the magic of family and the importance of a nice, warm hug. So join Steven and a host of wild characters including Natascha the Witch, the Reggae Beavers and Karen the Koala for some great stories, sing along songs, superb games and first class hugging. All you need are your ears. (And your arms!)

“a perfect introduction to theatre for children, full of audience participation and feel-good factor” HHHHH Sheffield Star *Credit/Debit Card Charge - 50p per transaction
