OUR NEW

DOLBY FIDELIO WIRELESS AUDIO SYSTEM

(A WIRELESS DEVICE FOR THE HEARING & VISUALLY IMPAIRED) We’re VERY excited to announce that we have installed a brand new - top of the range - Fidelio Audio System into both of our auditoriums! Our new system is able to deliver descriptive narration for the visually impaired and amplified sound for the hearing impaired for film screenings, satellite broadcasts, and select live events. All you have to do is collect a compact audio receiver from our Box Office and plug in a set of headphones. We do have a number of headphone sets available, but feel free to bring in your own if you prefer – the audio devices accept a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. This new installation was kindly financed through a grant from Powys County Council, which was generously match-funded by the Friends of Wyeside. Thank you very much to all of our friends, whose monthly donations help to secure Wyeside for generations to come.

JEREMY HARDY: LIVE 2017

Sat 8 July: 8pm Suitable for ages 14+ £14 Full (£5 Unwaged)*

Join stand-up comedian, poet, improviser, and TV stalwart Phill Jupitus for over an hour of tales, laughs and diversions. Watch in delight and/or horror as this experienced funny man smashes laughs out of the chaos of his own life and the uncertain world that surrounds it.

Jeremy Hardy is in his 4th decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 33 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 33 years to go. In 2014, the tenth series of ‘Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation’ was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on ‘The News Quiz’ and ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue’. His television credits include: Jack Dee’s Election Helpdesk (BBC2), QI (BBC1), Mock The Week (BBC2), and Grumpy Old Men (BBC1). After briefly hibernating in the winter, he’s back out on the road in 2017.

Phill became a familiar face when he started as team captain on BBC2’s pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks in 1996, which went on to run for 19 years. Aside from Never Mind the Buzzcocks he also appears as a regular guest on QI (BBC2) and Alan Davies As Yet Untitled (Dave), and in 2012 returned to television stand-up for the first time since 2000 with an appearance on Live at the Apollo (BBC1).

PHIL BEER

(FRoM SHoW oF HANDS) Thu 14 September: 7.30pm £15 Full (£13 Concession)* Phil Beer is the multi-instrumental half of the West Country’s award winning acoustic duo Show of Hands, described as a true craftsman, a master musician and consummate performer. With a professional career of over 36 years, Phil has a great deal of material to draw on for his solo appearances. All are songs and music of memory and significance sung in the subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings and amusings to an almost personal audience. It is a treat of past and current favourites from one of the most popular musicians on the acoustic circuit. * Credit/Debit Card Charge - 50p per transaction

Wed 4 October: 7.30pm £14 Full (£12 Concession)* Two Actors. Too Many Characters. One Big Ego.

After their previous self-funded two-man historical drama is savaged in the press, Howard (Bristol Old Vic) and Stu (Kneehigh) are at their wits end. Then they hit upon an idea for a show that could change everything... But can two of the South West’s favourite theatrical sons put aside their differences and make it through to the end without killing each other? The Six Wives of Henry VIII was an undisputed hit at the Bristol Old Vic, and with live original music, embroidery, barbie dolls, silly songs and historical hysteria, this promises to be an illresearched lesson in cross-dressing Tudor history that you’ll never forget.

THE EAST PoINTERS Sat 14 october: 7.30pm £14 Full (£13 Concession)* Hailing from Canada’s Prince Edward Island, The East Pointers feature banjoist/vocalist/step-dancer koady Chaisson, fiddle player/vocalist Tim Chaisson, and guitarist/vocalist Jake Charron. The cousins Chaisson are part of the sixth generation of heralded fiddlers from Prince Edward Island. When Jake visited the island a Canadian late-night kitchen party was sure to follow with fiddles and friends, guitars, Guinness and banjos. As their trunk of original and traditional tunes and songs started to fill up, the trio put them to tape and took to the road. The result is The East Pointers, who released their debut album ‘Sweet Victory’ in 2015 and have been touring the world almost constantly since. In early 2017 they won a JUNo Award for best roots album in Canada for ‘Sweet Victory’. Their new album will be released in autumn 2017. * Credit/Debit Card Charge - 50p per transaction

A CRAWL DoWN THE oGRE A TALk BY DoUG SCoTT CBE Fri 3 November: 7.30pm £13.50 Full (£12 Concession)* Whilst the highpoint of Doug Scott’s mountaineering collaboration with Chris Bonington was the first ascent of Everest by its enormous SW Face, their greatest adventure was undoubtedly on The ogre, two years later in July 1977. Doug and Chris made the first ascent after very difficult rock climbing that extended the boundaries of what had ever been achieved at that altitude. The subsequent descent in the dark immediately became an epic. Doug broke both legs just above the ankles. A storm blew in lasting five days, during which time Chris smashed his ribs and contracted pneumonia. It took eight hard days to reach Base Camp. It was 24 years before The ogre was ever climbed again...

Proceeds from the talk will support reconstruction of Community Action Nepal’s projects in Nepal. * Credit/Debit Card Charge 50p per transaction

With gentle intelligence, he weaves the tradition with his own contemporary parables. A selftaught musician, composer and songwriter, Chris’ latest album So Much to Defend, includes reflections on minor league football, empty nest syndrome, learning to swim, cook-in sauce and, not least, the gecko as a metaphor for contemporary society. Chris is supported by Scottish duo Twelfth Day, AkA Catriona Price and Esther Swift, whose new album “Cracks In The Room” has been produced by Chris Wood and mixed in the USA by legendary engineer oz Fritz. * Credit/Debit Card Charge - 50p per transaction

Lau comprises Kris Drever (vocals, guitar), Martin Green (accordion, wurlitzer, keys, electronics) and Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle) and together they continue to effortlessly bridge the seemingly diametrically opposed worlds of acoustic folk tradition and electronica. As THE GUARDIAN says of the trio ‘Lau are a remarkable band - the most musically adventurous trio in British folk exquisite and hypnotic, musicianship at its best.’

45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed ‘Live At Pompeii’ in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre he returned for two spectacular shows, part of his year-long tour in support of his No.1 album ‘Rattle That Lock’. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600 strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD. This concert performance film includes highlights from both shows, filmed in 4k by director Gavin Elder. ‘David Gilmour Live At Pompeii’ shows an artist at the top of his artistic game, performing incredible material with his world-class band, in a unique setting, on one very special occasion. June 1944. Allied Forces stand ready to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill. Exhausted by years of war and plagued by depression, Churchill is a shadow of the hero who has resisted Hitler’s Blitzkrieg. Fearful of repeating the terrible slaughter of the Gallipoli beaches in 1915, he is terrified he’ll be remembered as an architect of carnage. Only the support of Churchill’s brilliant, yet exasperated wife Clementine can halt his physical and mental collapse. Set in the 24 hours before D-Day, this is an intimate and personal portrait of the wartime leader and his relationship with “Clemmie” - his backbone and the love that inspired him to greatness.

This dark mystery-romance, set in Cornwall, follows the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. This high-stakes action-thriller takes place in the city of Berlin, on the eve of the Wall’s collapse. Lorraine Broughton (Theron), a top-level spy for MI6, is dispatched both to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has just killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown, and to retrieve a priceless dossier from the destabilized city. Partnered with station chief David Percival (McAvoy), Broughton combines equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, but she will need to deploy all of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission.

Based on the true story of famed painter Maud Lewis, MAUDIE is an unlikely romance in which reclusive Everett Lewis (Hawke) hires fragile yet determined Maudie (Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but crippled with arthritic hands, yearns both to live away from her protective family and, more passionately than anything, to create art. MAUDIE charts her deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame as a folk painter.

Based on Stephen King’s epic novels, Roland (Elba) is the last Gunslinger, locked in an eternal battle with the Man in Black (McConaughey). As he roams an Old West-like landscape, Roland must find The Dark Tower before the Man in Black, and prevent him from toppling the key that holds the universe together. The stage is set for the two men to collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil, with the fate of many worlds at stake, including our own.

AN EXHIBITION BY FRANCESCA BARTOCK From Tuesday June 6th– Thursday July 27th Francesca was brought up surrounded by her grandparents’ huge collection of Hokusai, Toyokuni and Audrey Beardsley, and we can clearly see the influence of careful, immediate clean lines and deliberate simplicity in her work. Her enormous variety of interests show in her work; strong flower studies in oil or gouache, tiny simplified but delicate views of the Llyn landscape, her “skinny ma-links” series of girls posing beautifully, and memorable nudes.

The film is able to capture part of the light spectrum not normally visible to the naked eye, allowing you to appreciate the natural landscape in an entirely new way.

Reserved disabled parking is available on our forecourt, and wheelchair spaces are available in both auditoriums. All disabled seating is allocated on a first-come first-serve basis as these facilities are limited due to the restricted nature of our Grade 2 listed building. To guarantee admittance we strongly recommend booking in advance via our Box Office on 01982 552555. Unfortunately wheelchair spaces are not bookable online at this time.
