TH
YEAR OF WYESIDE!
You might want to commemorate a special occasion, pay tribute to a group, surprise someone with a gift, or remember a loved one. Whatever your reason, sponsoring a seat will allow you to have a plaque with your name or message fixed to an auditorium seat for the next 5 years. Own a piece of Wyeside’s unique history and help secure our Arts Centre for generations to come!
The Wyeside building first opened its doors as The Assembly Rooms with a grand ceremony more than 140 years ago. 1911 saw the arrival of the latest innovation - moving pictures, and films have been a major part of Wyeside ever since!
In October 1976, the newly formed Wyeside Arts Centre Ltd acquired the buildings by a deed of gift from Donald Jones and Eddie Turner, and work began on the scheme to give Builth Wells a Centre for the
Arts. The new Wyeside Arts Centre was opened 40 years ago by Lady Anglesey, Chair of the Welsh Arts Council and daughter of Builth’s distinguished novelist Hilda Vaughan. As part of our celebrations, in April and May we will be hosting an exhibition containing the works of the late Winifred Francis which will feature fascinating images of Builth and Wyeside from the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Seats in both our Market Theatre and Castle Cinema auditoriums are available for £150. A plaque engraved with your name or message is fixed to your chosen seat and will remain there for 5 years, and your generous donation will be acknowledged on a list of supporters on our website. Corporate sponsors are welcome too; your group, society or business can have their name seen by literally thousands of people!

It was Donald Jones, Wyeside’s founder, who believed that only by enriching the cultural life of a community well beyond what one could normally expect in a small town, could the future prosperity of the area be secured.

SCREENINGS: Jun: 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21. Wednesday 20 June, 1.30pm

WRITING AS A CREATIVE PROCESS: TEXT AND THEORY Tutor: Lara Clough £110 (£90 Concession) Class Code: HF300W Module: CQFW Level 4 A 9 week writing course starting April 12th. Sessions run from 10.30am till 12.45pm every Thursday during term time. So much of our best writing grows out of unselfconscious experimentation. Yet all too often fear and self-criticism get in the way of us achieving our best work. Fear can even stop us writing completely. In this course we will be exploring ways of overcoming fear and other barriers to writing. In a safe, supportive environment, we will be using a series of exercises, readings and discussions to explore how the writer can be bolder, take more risks and tap into the ‘magic’ of our own innate creativity. Book your place by contacting Aberystwyth University: 01970 621580 learning@aber.ac.uk www.aber.ac.uk/en/sell

Wyeside is an independent not-for-profit charity - so every penny we make goes straight back into our programme. We couldn’t manage without our funders - and the fantastic help and support we get from our incredibly loyal band of Friends and Volunteers. THANK YOU ALL!
FRIENDS OF WYESIDE The Friends’ subscriptions provide additional funding for special projects. In the past these have included match funding for recent major improvements to the arts centre building and facilities, including the refurbishment of the Market Theatre and Gallery, the installation of digital projection equipment, the new artists’ space, Window on the Wye, and repairs and renovations to the stonework of the historic building. Donate from £5 per month (£60 per year), or whatever you would like to give! WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Apart from playing a vital role in our future, Friends organise special events, receive quarterly newsletters from Wyeside, are entered into a monthly draw for free tickets, and will receive the brochure hot off the press! HOW DO I JOIN? If you would like to become a Friend of Wyeside either pop in and pick up a form from the box office, download one from our website, or request one from Miriam Hall by calling 01982 553668, or by emailing marketing@wyeside.co.uk.
VOLUNTEERS Wyeside’s volunteers play a vital role in our continuing success. They help us in myriad ways - stewarding for live events and films, working on our bars, or helping our publicity efforts. We give training to develop your skills and CV. You get to see live events and films free, and the chance to work with Wyeside’s friendly team as we present 1000+ shows every year. If you are 16 or over and want to get involved, please call our volunteer coordinator Owen Lawrence on 01982 553668, or email him at owen@wyeside.co.uk.

BECOME PART OF THE FABRIC AT WYESIDE ARTS CENTRE!
40

When you leave the car park, turn left, walk past the Builth bull statue and Wyeside is facing you at the top of the rise.
