A NEW BROCHURE FOR A NEW YEAR! What better way to drive away the winter blues than a visit to Wyeside? Our exciting live season ranges from celebrated musicians such as Hazel O’Connor and Martyn Joseph to the comic skills of Mock The Week’s Rob Beckett. All the way from Canada we have the internationally renowned Duo Concertante, providing an evening of exquisite classical music on violin and piano. From a little closer to home, we have the Willow Globe Theatre’s production of Much Ado About Nothing, and Builth YFC’s Annual Concert. We are adding a new company to our Satellite Live! programme with the introduction of Branagh Theatre Live – productions from Kenneth Branagh’s Theatre Company, direct from London’s Garrick Theatre. We start the season with The Winter’s Tale, starring Dame Judi Dench & co-directed by Kenneth Branagh himself. Keep an eye out for more information on our upcoming Festival – Wyeside Inside Out!

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Sun 10 January: 3pm £10 Full (£5 Under 16’s)* One of Shakespeare’s warmest comedies and best known plays with sparkling lovers, dastardly deeds and a Neighbourhood Watch which owes a considerable debt to Captain Mainwaring. It promises to be a very ‘merry war’! Directed by Sue Best & Phil Bowen of Shakespeare Link * Credit/Debit Card Charge 50p per transaction

MARTYN JOSEPH Sat 23 January: 7.30pm £15 Full (£14 Concession)* Martyn is a mean guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style and a powerful show stopping voice – he has been called “The Welsh Springsteen”, but expect to also see shades of John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews in his performance. Martyn’s music is hard to categorise. Many have tried, resulting in labels such as Folk, Rock, Soul, Folk Funk and Americana; all of which somehow miss the mark. He delivers his music and social commentary with the same skill as a master craftsman, with his lyrical stories painting pictures that speak to all.

“One of the most charismatic and electrifying performers in Britain today…tough and passionate” Tom Robinson BBC 6 music “Written with craft, performed with passion” Financial Times

HAZEL O’CONNOR No Support Sat 6 February: 7.30pm £15 Full (£14 Concession)* A very special evening with award-winning singer songwriter Hazel O’Connor, joined here by Clare Hirst (Bellestars, Communards, David Bowie) on sax and Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics) on keyboards. The superb blend of the three voices and stunning musicianship adds a sweet touch of class to their vibrant performance. Live onstage, her unforgettable songs from the iconic film Breaking Glass, which this year celebrates its 35th anniversary, including Eighth Day, Will You, Big Brother, If Only and more seem even more relevant in our present times. Expect a soulful introspective dip into Hazel’s stunning portfolio, the old and the new. A sumptuous night of some of the greatest songs of the 20th Century delivered with passion and fire. With a special Meet & Greet immediately after the show you’re in for a treat!

In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalised the world. Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton’s adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s thirty year anniversary. Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed. Directed by Josie Rourke, the cast includes Elaine Cassidy, Janet McTeer and Dominic West.

Ballet in two acts LIVE Wed 6 April: 7.15pm £17 Full (£15 Concession)* Giselle is the quintessential Romantic classic, a love affair that begins in the real world and continues beyond the grave. The ballet’s title role also offers one of the great challenges of the ballet repertory, as Giselle transforms from an innocent peasant girl, duped into love, to a forgiving spirit who saves her lover from death. For the ballerina this is a role of two contrasting halves: in Act I she must appear naïve and artless, her dancing alive with an earthy enthusiasm; in Act II she transforms into light and air, her dancing so ethereal as to seem weightless.

130 mins | USA | Dir. Adam McKay Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt

Rock legend Marianne Lane (Swinton) is recuperating on the idyllic sun-drenched and remote island of Pantelleria with her partner Paul. But their vacation is disrupted when iconoclast record producer and old flame Harry (Fiennes) arrives with his daughter Penelope (Johnson), bringing with him a whirlwind of jealousy, passion and ultimately danger for everyone involved from which there can be no rescue. A provocative and tension-filled psychological drama, and a sensuous portrait of desire, jealousy and rock and roll, set under the Mediterranean sun.

When four outsiders saw what the big banks, the media and the government refused to - the global collapse of the economy - they had an idea: The Big Short. But their bold investment would lead them into the dark underbelly of modern banking, where they must question everyone and everything. Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis and directed by Adam McKay.

In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by a catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100year-old gold and copper mine. Over the next 69 days, an international rescue team worked night and day as families, friends and millions of people globally, waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. But far beneath the surface, in the suffocating heat, with tensions rising, provisions and time - were quickly running out. SCREENING: Mar: 8, 9, 10.

All disabled seating is allocated on a first-come first-serve basis as these facilities are limited due to the restricted nature of our Grade 2 listed building. To guarantee admittance we strongly recommend booking in advance via our Box Office on 01982 552555. Unfortunately wheelchair spaces are not bookable online at this time.

Wyeside stands prominently on the end of Builth Wells’ famous Wye river bridge, opposite the Llewellyn mural. The centre is only 100 metres walk from the Groe public car park, which is free from 6pm. When you leave the car park, turn left, walk past the Builth bull statue and Wyeside is facing you at the top of the rise.
