EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS TENDERCARE
The Early Childhood Program serves children ages 2 to 5 years. The YMCA is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment that helps young people develop a secure foundation for learning. We offer a nurturing yet challenging program with a developmentally appropriate curriculum where children can play, learn and discover. Children develop confidence in themselves, are aware of their strengths, and challenge themselves to succeed where they initially need support. Social development is a key component of our program. There is a strong sense of community within the center and children and families feel secure, engaged, and excited to be part of this loving environment. The development of trust, independence and initiative is fostered through a daily program of choice activities, centers, large and small group meeting times, story and music time, outdoor play and specialist classes. In addition to open-ended play, there are several special projects or activities daily. These projects are geared to the interests of the children and the early childhood goals and expectations. Children experience early literacy, math, and science activities throughout the day. We model for children and they practice and apply what they learn to play and work-based opportunities. These may include science, explorations, art projects, dramatic play or field trips. As part of the YMCA, the school also places a great deal of emphasis on physical and community awareness. Teachers plan curricular goals around the expectations for growth and learning that are appropriate for the age of the children.
