GROWING GUIDE HOW New Lawn Re-seeding
Preparation
1. Remove debris and perennial weeds 2. Rotavate soil to a depth of 15-25cm 3. Rake over soil and firm seedbed by rolling or treading over by foot 4. Ideally leave this area for around 2 weeks, making sure to remove weeds that appear 5. Rake in lawn seed fertiliser 3-5 days before sowing
1. Mow the lawn, with blades as low as possible – ideally 2.5cm high 2. Use a rake or scarifier to break up and remove existing matted grass 3. Using a fork, spike the lawn to create pockets for the seed at a depth of 1.5cm
Sowing
1. Divide area into manageable sections – ideally square metres 2. For good establishment sow at 35g-50g per m² 3. Shake pack to remix the seed 4. Sow half the seed across the section from left to right. Then sow the other half from top to bottom. This will ensure even coverage 5. Immediately after sowing gently rake over the seed, roll or tread in to get maximum seed to soil contact. Lightly water in dry conditions
1. Divide area into manageable sections – ideally into square metres 2. For overseeding sow at 25-35g per m² 3. Shake pack to mix the seed 4. Sow half the seed across the section from left to right. Then sow the other half from top to bottom. This will ensure even coverage 5. After sowing, roll or tread in to get maximum seed to soil contact. Lightly water the overseeded area immediately
1. Young grass should begin to show between 7 and 14 days depending on the conditions 2. Water area well (particularly if there is dry weather following sowing) and continue if conditions are dry 3. Reduce the amount of traffic over the area and, if possible, use a net or garden fleece to protect from birds 4. Try to remove weeds that appear within the area 5. Lightly cut the lawn for the first time when the grass is 5-8cm high 6. For following cuts lower the blades to about 2.5cm high try not to remove more than 1/3 of growth in one cut
1. Do not apply lawn fertiliser until the new seeds are established 2. Try and keep the area moist but do not oversaturate 3. Reduce the amount of traffic over the area and, if possible, use a net or garden fleece to protect from birds 4. Try to remove weeds that appear within the area 5. Lightly cut the overseeded area for the first time when the new grass is 5-8cm high 6. For following cuts lower the blades to about 2.5cm high try not to remove more than 1/3 of growth in one cut
1. To maintain a lush looking lawn, apply a lawn fertiliser during spring, summer and autumn 2. To thicken the lawn, ensure that you overseed patchy areas each year, or as necessary

Maintenance Perennials
1. Spray off grasses, weeds or any plants in targeted area (alternatively lift the turf for the same effect) 2. Using a garden fork or rotavator, break up the soil to make a fine seedbed 3. Allow 2-6 weeks and spray or hoe any weeds that appear during this time 4. Rake over and roll to a firm and fine tilth 1. For a straight wildflower seed mix sow at 1-2g per m² 2. For a grass and wildflower seed mix sow at 5g per m² 3. Mix seed with sand or fresh soil to help spread the seed evenly 4. Broadcast the seed mixture by hand (alternatively for large areas use a lawn fertiliser spreader) 5. Sow half the seed across the section from left to right. Then sow the other half from top to bottom. This will ensure even coverage 6. Immediately after sowing gently rake over, making sure not to cover the seed more than 10mm and tread in or roll in the seed to get maximum seed to soil contact 1. Germination usually takes about 14-21 days depending on the conditions 2. Reduce the amount of traffic over the area and, if possible, use a net or garden fleece to protect from birds 3. Remove unwanted weeds by hand or spot spray 1. In the first year of sowing cut the meadow every two months or when the meadow reaches 15cm to a height of approx. 5cm until September - October 2. Ensure that you collect the mowings - It is important to remove all debris as you do not want the nutrients from the plants going back into the soil, as this will increase soil fertility. Removing the debris will also allow light to reach the wildflowers to encourage new growth 3. In subsequent years, take the first cut down to 7.5cm in March/April. The second cut should be taken in August - October making sure to remove all cuttings
Maintenance 1. If Autumn sown, once the flowering period is over and any potential seed shed has occured, cut around August/ October and remove the debris. This will help to reduce weed competition Annuals
