ELECTRONIC WEIGH SYSTEMS Electronic weighing has created a much more accurate and faster generation of weighing. Clamp or bolt your loadbars onto a crush or platform and once connected to a digital head you can begin weighing. No more guessing what the weight is whilst the old style mechanical clock needle jumps around- the weight is shown clear and precise on the LCD display. We would recommend using MP (multi purpose) loadbars If you need to move your crush/platform around or HD (heavy duty) if you want to bolt your crush/platform to the floor and never have to worry about it moving out of place again. Different sizes of loadbars are available - depending on your application. There are a variety of digital weigh heads- from the basic one only able to display weight. Up to the most advanced, which can record, store and retrieve individual animal weights, tag numbers, allow input of dam/sire, medical records and can be linked to an EID panel reader at a later date. All weigh heads come complete with an in-built rechargeable battery. • • • •

CHIEFTAIN, SARACEN OR CENTURION FULL ACCESS CATTLE CRUSHES
WEIGHING SOLUTIONS
Chieftain, Saracen & Centurion refer to the different yoking systems i.e. the front of the crush. Chieftain: is a modern type yoking system, that comes in from the side, like a pair of scissors and as such the animal in the crush doesn’t see the yoke until it is yoked. This yoke is popular with Dairy, Suckler and young stock, (including horned animals). The yoke will close down to 100mm allowing calves to be safely yoked. Chieftain Full Access Crush

Saracen: is a self locking yoke system and is generally only recommended for beef animals. Not suitable for horned animals. Saracen Full access Cattle Crush
Wynnstay are now able to offer a range of practical weighing solutions from Italian manufacturer Dynamica Generale. Dynamica Generale produce a range of weighing equipment designed to increase the accuracy and efficiency of feeding, weighing cattle and the weighing of imported and exported forage and manure from the farm. Pegasus 2 is an on board pressure weighing system that can be retro fitted on any telescopic handler, loading shovel or front end loader. The main benefits of being able to weigh raw materials when loading a mixer wagon for example are; less running around between raw material stores and greater accuracy when loading. Greater accuracy means reduced costs and improved animal performance. The regular weighing of fattening cattle and dairy heifers is essential if target growth rates and weights are going to be achieved. This important but yet quite often neglected task can now be made easier with the Taurus livestock weighing system. The Taurus livestock weighing and data management system allows for non-stop walk through weighing, identification and recording of animal weights. If you are looking to update your feeder wagon weigh scale and want more control over the way your cows are fed look no further than the proven feed management system DTM. It’s not just a scale, the DTM system allows you to manage the whole feeding process on your farm including recording of feed use, feeding times, loading accuracy and stock control. The flagship Top Scale system can store 148 diet formulations all of which can be accessed by wireless connection and managed remotely over the internet. Changes to diets can be made simply and easily depending on animal performance, ingredient availability and ingredient quality. The system ensures that your animals are always getting the right diet optimising performance and improving your margins.

CALVING DETECTORS VEL’PHONE CALVING ALERT
“
TEXT A E V I E C RE OUR COW Y N E H W LVE! A C O T S START
250 dairy cows, replacement heifers and a flock of breeding ewes doesn’t leave much time for leisure at Shordley Hall farm, so two years ago Richard Pilkington decided to invest in Vel’phone Calving Alert technology. This saves on the time spent checking the dry cow yard, day and night. The system works with radio waves from a central control box, and with 350 calvings per year , 7 temperature probes are sufficient to monitor every cow calving,on an all year round basis. Richard inserts the probes a week before the predicted date and waits for a signal to be sent to his phone. A rise and fall in temperature sends a ‘ 48hr alert’,and when she starts pushing out the water bag,the probe hits the ground and sends a final ‘text alert’. Most cows calve within an hour of this final alert. Richard sets a ‘time delay’ for night time calvings and says ‘it’s a reliable system, 99% of the time the cow is at the point of calving as I come into the shed’. Somebody is always on hand if the cow is having difficulty, and we can attend to the cow, the calf and colostrum at the same time.
Robust, effective solution based on analysis of the temperature of the animals in order to carry out remote monitoring of calving. Once the thermometer has been placed in the vaginal canal, the Vel’Phone informs you via SMS of the day-to-day changes in temperature, of the imminence of calving, and of the breaking of waters. Day and night and anywhere, you will remain free and have peace of mind because the Vel’Phone is monitoring your animals. Calving prediction via SMS invites you to place the animal under optimal conditions before its waters break. Detection of the breaking of the waters via SMS provides you with the greatest accuracy in order to leave the animal to do the work first, and then intervene at the optimal time. Ultimately, you will improve your stock breeding results with more living calves and fewer post-partum complications.

BELLA AG BOLUS
Realtime body temperature monitoring for cows The BellaAg bolus is an exciting addition to the Wynnstay portfolio of products. The bolus which resides in the reticulum of the cow, records the cows core body temperature every 15 minutes for 4 years providing an up to date picture of herd health. Tell-tale increases in core body temperature can give an early indication of ill health up to 48 hours before the observation of clinical signs or symptoms. Implementing treatment earlier can result in an improved prognosis and reduced veterinary costs. The BellaAg software flags up cows with raised body temperatures for attention which enrols the cow on a standard treatment protocol which begins with a detailed ten point check (Table 1). Adopting bolus technology has been shown to reduce treatment costs, the value of milk discarded as well an increase milk production and cull value. Different conditions generate different temperature patterns which can be used as a primary diagnosis by an experienced operator. In future it is predicted that data generated by the bolus will be used to detect signatures of heat.

LIGHTING ENVIRALIGHT SERIES DAY-LIGHTER The new Day-Lighter (with optional Moon-Lighter) series of lighting combines the proven technology of Induction and LED, housed in the most robust IP 65 (listed for wet location) fixture and optical lens. Using the proven and sound research by many of North America’s universities, the VES Day-Lighter, Mood-Lighter and Enviralight control will help improve the milk production with proper lighting levels whilst using the least amount of energy. An expert team of engineers will design your farm to have 20’ candles over the feeding area and 10’ candles over the bedding area. In addition, we will analyse your other building for internal and external lighting needs. Our Enviralight control or Dairy Select control can control the lights for long day and short day listing. Sensors provide buildings with light harvesting poly carbonate walls to accurately sense when natural light is strong enough to provide adequate lighting levels. Sensors allow the controls to shut off the area of lights to provide the most economical conditions.
‘help improve milk production with proper lighting levels while using the least amount of energy’
www.wynnstay.co.uk
Induction lighting technology is over 100 years old and has been very popular in Europe where energy rates are extremely high. The features of the Enviralight series make it the right technology at the right time. Day-Lighter: •
Since induction lighting does not have filaments, electrodes or met end caps to seal the ends it does not have the components that cause florescent lighting to breakdown prematurely. This is why the VES Day-Lighter Induction rates for over 100,000 hours of life
•
Very high energy conversion efficiency of up to 90 lumens per watt
•
Minimal lumen depreciation compared to other lamp types
•
Five year full warranty on all parts - Die cast aluminium hosing and hinged op frame
•
½” coin pugs with ‘O’ rings for conduit and photocell
•
Two stainless steel latches provide tool-less entry for easy bulb replacements.
•
CSA/CSAUS approved for wet locations
•
6500k light temperature which gives cows a more natural light.
11
Moon-Lighter: • Upgrade any of the VES Induction Day-Lighter lights with our 9 watt LED Moon-lighter • If long day lighting is in your strategy than the combination Day-Lighter and Moon-Lighter are ideal • An unbelievable 9 Watts of power to light your building with a minimum light level of 2-3 foot candles. This allows you to safely move about the building and yet provide the cows with night conditions • Using the lights in conjunction with the VES manual/automatic back-up relay control, allows you with the flick of a switch, turn on the lights in an emergency • Based on i.e 500’ x 120’ building, the Moon-Lighter would use less than 600 Watts of power to provide Long Lifespan the night light needed Experience with using induction light at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, New Mexico, has demonstrated the long life in actual usage. WHAT IS INDUCTION LIGHTING? Induction lighting is a closed glass tube technology or WIPP’s first induction lighting system was installed in 1998, florescent lighting without filaments or electrodes. It uses replacing high-pressure sodium (HPS) lights. More than 10 a magnetic field to excite the electrons in the bulb as years later, all but three of the original 36 induction units are the electrons accelerate inside the bulb, they collide with still operating after more than 88,000 hours of continuous, mercury atoms and produce ultraviolet (UV) light radiation. 24/7 operation. Additional systems were installed in 2002 The UV light then causes the special phosphor coating and succeeding years, both indoors and outside, with inside the glass to react in a way that produces fluorescent excellent results. light within the visible spectrum. Environmental benefits of the Day-Lighter: • Based on 100,000 hours of life you may have to replace one bulb and/ or one ballast. The bulb is recyclable except for the dime size reservoir of mercury. The die cast aluminium housing is recyclable, the lens is recyclable and much of the ballast can be recycled. This probably makes the Enviralight one of the most environmentally friendly lights available today •
12
If we compare our 250 Watts induction at 100,000 to the 6 bulb and 2 ball ast florescent T bulbs with 20,000 hours of light you would have to change and throw into the landfill site 30 bulbs and 10 ballast
