RADICAL SPORT DEVELOPMENT SPORTING CODES The following sporting codes are for parents/guardians and children to look at and choose, the ones the children can play. We suggest that the children can try a certain number of sporting codes and then select the ones in which she/he is talented in. Parents/Guardians should expose their children to the professional side of the below sporting codes. We will provide links of some professional videos we have or know. Paraplegia – paralysis of the legs and lower body, typically caused by spinal injury or disease. Quadriplegia – is the paralysis of all the four limbs Muscular dystrophy – deterioration and weakness of muscles Post-polio syndrome – a condition that affect former polio patients lang after recovery from the disease and that is characterised by muscle weakness, joint and muscle pain and fatigue. Spina bifida – a congenital of the spine in which part of the spinal cord and its meninges are exposed through a gap in the backbone. It often causes paralysis of the lower limbs, and sometimes learning difficulties. Hypertonia – an abnormally high level muscle tone or tension Amputation – surgically removed limb Dysmelia - malformation of a limb or limbs characterised by missing, shortened or excessive development. Short stature – a height that significantly below average for a person`s age gender or racial group Ataxia – the loss of full control of bodily movements Athetosis – a condition in which abnormal muscle contraction causes involuntary writhing movements. It affects people with cerebral palsy, impairing speech and use of the hands. For paraplegic children we will have to look at the possible sporting codes that can be easily played or trained at home.
