Xanadu Surfboard Guide 2019
THE SHAPER
Advertisement
A shaper since the age of 15, Xanadu opened a surfboard factory at 17, operating it for the next 5 years. The next four years he traveled around the world surfing contests, free surfing, and shaping in countries like Australia, Japan, Hawaii, Indonesia, South and Central America, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, and Europe. He moved to California permanently in 1987 and established what is now Xanadu Surf Designs in 1989.
Xanadu attributes much of his success to timing and hard work. Years traveling and learning about waves and people of various cultures provided him a more balanced perspective to his artistic, business, and personal approach. Through the 90’s many top professional surfers took the sport to new heights riding Xanadu’s. After riding his boards for one full year, Brad Gerlach jumped 12 places to finish the ASP tour ranked 2nd in the world. Lisa Anderson also won two world titles riding Xanadu Surfboards.
Xanadu can still be found traveling to far off corners of the globe going on shaping missions for his distributors in Australia, South America and Asia or research and development missions deep into the Indonesian Archipelogico testing new designs. Xanadu consistently draws inspiration and ideas from working with several WQS and WCT pros, local chargers, NSSA grommets, and ripping soul rangers.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SET UP
NITZ
FAMILY 1 / HIGH PERFORMANCE SET UP
IDEAL WAVE SIZE: HEAD HIGH TO DOUBLE OVERHEAD
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: ADVANCED TO PRO
ABOUT THE SHAPE
The Nitz features a rounder outline, but has a really pulled in pin tail allowing for tight arcing turns toward the lip, barrel riding, and getting into waves early. The foil, the rocker, the slightly harder rails, and the bottom contour result in a board that will be very easy to ride in larger surf. As far as sizing goes, the 5’11” has all ready been tested in double over head Lances Rights, and the 6’2” has been tested in well double overhead blacks, so don’t be afraid to order this board the same size as your short board.
FIN SET UP: TRI FIN / FIVE FIN
FIN SYSTEMS: FCS / FCS II / FUTURES / GLASS ONS
TAIL OPTIONS: ROUND TAIL
WING TWIN
FAMILY 1 / RETRO
IDEAL WAVE SIZE: ANKLE TO OVERHEAD
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
ABOUT THE SHAPE
The WINGTWIN is based on Xanadu’s late 70s twin fin template. The mixture of a 70’s outline combined with a post modern rocker design make this board magic. The board has a vee bottom flowing into double concave vee out the back. It works well for classic 70s twin fin style surfing and goes super fast down the line.
