The 35,000 square meter proposed site for the New Creativity Center resides in the countryside of the Cap de Creus Nature Park. The proposed location sits next to the vacation city of Montjoi in the Costa Brava. The proposed site is surrounded by the Bay of Montjoi to the east, the city of Montjoi and beaches to its north, and the vast Spanish countryside to its south and west borders. It is with these borders our proposed site absorbs a vast blend of the Spanish context.

01.EAVE process The profile used in the project is come from traditional roof line. I use multiple profiles to create basic geometry volume. The rails for project profile are come from local building and landscape. So the overall project will fit the local environment
01.EAVE Texture Design In this project, I begin to use scripts to assist design. I use Processing which base on JAVA script to generate grid texture and Python script to export the geometry into Maya. The strategy of the code is generated different elements base on the brightness of each pixels in the front view rendering. Unit geometry form the complex texture. The density of the unit will influence the appearance and function of interior space. The spaces which have high density of units will convert to larger voids which allow light come into the building or form some negative space. The spaces which have low density will be more solid and against the light and sight.
01.EAVE Processing study In this semester, I learned a lot about script about processing and make many exercise about it.
I begin to study how to interact with texture and camera.
In this two image, I try to model the Game of Life in 3D. Each point have two type: live or die. I caculate each point about how much others point surround it was live. Use the number of it as the stretagy to change the type of the points. So the pattern occured in the screen.
I focus on pixels of image and curve drawing
I wrote many behaviors of point include avoid, seperate, cohesion, and allign etc. I try to mimic the birds’ behavior.
In this one, I begin to draw actual mesh in processing. Use the brightness of the image to revise the volume of model.
I use processing wrote two games, and I found the script of processing have a lot of potential.
In this one, I import the sphere from Rhino and use the surface of the sphere to attract cube which surround it.
Then I work on webcam, I can capture the motion of image and detect the color of each pixels to get whatever effect I want.

02.NINGBO MUSEUM Redesign of elevation and structure basing on exsting architecture
Sciarc_Advance Building Structure Instructor: Marcelo Spina, Assoc. AIA Partner: Yunke He, Jiajun Tan, Jiashu Zhang In this program, we focus on building structure and how to use the envelope formed and structured with the interior spaces. We started with research of Ningbo Museum which looks haphazard. It is apparently a box, but its sides are skewed and large chunks are missing. Its materials are inconsistent and ill-fitting. The facade is pocked with small, arbitrarily arranged windows that reveal nothing of the building’s contents. It is an awkward building, but next to the muscularity of the government offices, it conveys a vulnerability that is touching, almost heart-warming, and as I approached the entrance I wondered whether this museum represents an entirely different sort of strength, the strength to embrace the unusual.

We focus on the decoration of it and then use the technic in the new building system. The outer wall decoration of Ningbo Museum is made in two ways. Some walls are decorated by millions of tiles collected in local areas. This sort of decoration itself was a common way of building an economic house in the old days in Ningbo when cements are not introduced. Other walls are decorated with cement-covered bamboos. We build wood, plastic and chip boart to build the physical model. We draw the overall plan on the support plastic. We stick small pieces of wood on it base on the drawing.

03.CUBE&RIBBON&VOXEL Scetion rendering We began with a cube that then was interpreted 3 individual ways that could all rely on each other to function but never to function alone. We classify these systems as mass, surface and voxel. The mass is pulled from the cube that was manipulated by the contextual images. The chunks that were chosen are dependent on the surfaces that were used to disrupt the cube. The surface can only create space if it is working with the mass. This insures that the individual systems cannot function alone. The voxel is the third system. As the mass and surface are manipulations of the cube, the voxels replicate the cube’s form. Its purpose is structure, circulation, and open space that the other two systems cannot generate. The voxels serve different functions as they range in scale. The larger column voxel skewers throughout the entire height of the building, tying it together. A secondary voxel achieves an enclosure that will allow for greater space with smaller voxel columns that support itself within the mass and surface. The 3 systems hold primary objectives alone but only together do they produce a whole building.

CONCEPT PROTOTYPES
Sciarc_Advance Structural Systems Instructor: Stephen Lewis, Greg Otto Partner:Carol, Yuhui Huang, Zhengxuanzi Shang With an understanding of fundamental structural principals (in particular, the efficiencies of tension and compression limited systems), identify a preferred architectural project and develop an improved structural approach for the design’s structural system. In the selection of a structural approach, determine appropriate materiality. The goal of this project is to “mix and match” structural systems for the desired intent to better support the architectural concept. Too often, structural solutions are imposed on architectural projects resulting in conflicting resolution of the larger architectural concept. The opportunity here is to use knowledge of basic structural fundamentals and the tools that we have learned to explore, develop and integrate holistic and hopefully better integrated structural concepts.

05.MODELS OF VARIABLE RESOLUTION First exercise of sciarc
Aimed at study the potential of variable resolution. We model the figuration base on the real world and use different techinics we discover how to break the form into unpredicetable field. In this approach, we begin to liberate our mind and begin to dig something more deep inside the charactor itself.
