The Quarter Note district celebrates the unique street culture of New Orleans. It facilitates a healthy and cosmopolitan experience for locals and visitors alike. Situated at the intersection of four major districts - Biodistrict, Central Business District, Iberville Housing, Lafitte Greenway - and in proximity with the iconic French Quarter, this location integrates these different “notes to create an authentic urban melody. The I-10 anchors the site and connects the surrounding blocks. These blocks deliver a medley of New Orleans history and culture centered around music, art and cuisine.

Noli Plan

Location

In recent years, new city centers have boomed in China ,but seldom have emerged into a comfortable atmosphere. Most of them were empty concretes without daily activities. This design focuses on connections between functions and activities, urban development and spacial creating, city and nature. The purpose is to create a multi-functional area with an established pure identity and to avoid sterility in new town construction, which happens everyday in China.

This site is located in Zhangjiang, Pudong district, Shanghai. Located in the nodes of Shanghai develop mainaxis and Pudong develop sub-axis.

03 TO BE COPIED CITY PARK Residential constructive detailed planning Work Individual Work 16 weeks in the 4th semester Tilanqiao, Hongkou, Shanghai

Taller buildings with higher FAR leave large spaces for growing lawns, giving dramatic economical rewards for devlopers and the government. Compared with Shanghai 30 years ago, it looks uglier and even to be dismembered by this frenzy construction. This design focuses on inheriting and transiting traditional community space in order to meet modern uses. Planning is never merely focused on one site. This plan tries to find a way to regenerate cities in a familiar and beautiful pattern that comes from traditional Li Long community style, whose pattern could be copied just as Li Long does.

Planning Strategy

Inherit traditional pattern.

Senes of secruity and the spirit of place come from enclosed, no passing through space.

Supervise from kitchen and balcony prevent crimes from happening.

Long distance ensures sun light and increases green space.

To o m u c h s u b l a n e connecting with city road will lead to traffic problems.

Increase open space between buildings by decreasing the number of buildings.

Copy this pattern into every parcel.

Circulate these parcels by rotating this pattern.

A inner circulation for pedestrian and community vehicles as a reaction to the isolated community.

Build inner green area but linked with the city circulation.

3 A-series units with elevators are designed for high-rise residential and 6 B-series units are designed for multi-storey residential. Every unit takes the most of south elevation to acquire enough sunlight. The shape of every unit is continuous to lose less heat during winter. There are 3 kinds of size among the 9 units aimed at different kinds of owners, 120 m2, 90 m2 and 60 m2.

04 ORIGINATE TOURISM IN DECLINED VILLAGE Village Conceptual Planning Work Group Work 2 weeks in the 8th semester Hongshan, Jiexiu, Shanxi

This is an ancient village in Shanxi Province with a great honor for thousands of years' historty. However, water shortage almost destroyed it. Most young people go to big cities for a living. Babies and elders are left over. The plan tries to preserve traditional elements such as ancient city, folk houses, temples, texture, and intangible cultural heritage through the development of tourism in a back that water shortage cannot be solved in the near future. Culture bring along tourism and tourism rescue culture.

Present Situation Old city wall collapsed for a long time only two gates are left there. New buildings in these 15 years occupied the space of the square. The traditional spacial pattern is lost and the old city is drowned in the village.

Design Strategy The main purpose was to restore traditional space pattern of the old city. Rebuilding city wall w a s n o t o u r s t r a t e g y. To r e c o r d i t s p r e s e n t situation, a special history in the future, I restored its spacial pattern by building trees and greening space in the very place of city wall, which also improved environmental experience. 05 CITIC SHANTOU WATERFRONT NEW TOWN CENTRAL AXIS Professional Work Shantou, Guangdong

Shantou is a second-tier city in Guangdong, China and was renowned for its open ports. Compared with its previous prosperousďźŒ Shantou is enduring a severe dilemma.

Rendering

The plan connects the mountain and the inland sea. The axis is served as a window to display the whole new town. More importantly, the plan opens a gate through a hopeful future for contradicted Shantou people. In the museum experience hall design process, I apply traditional local Sidianjin house pattern to the formation of the shape of the museum experience hall.

Apply traditional Sidianjin house pattern. Set transportation function in four corners which are higher. An atrium will help brighten day lighting. Increase skyline levels.

06 CHENGDU NORTH RAILWAY STATION SURROUNDING URBAN DESIGN Professional Work Chengdu, Sichuan

The design focuses on creating a green belt which connects railway station surrounded area, increases the price of the surrounding land and builds up a concept named lifestyles of health and sustainability (Lohas).

Master Plan

Concept

Rendering The concept derived from Chengdu's charactor "crooked" and "straight". East part and west part apply different shape and reflect in different functions. Connect two seperated areas with the green belt. The green belt’s form is also derived from Chengdu’s culture. The plan first extract basic structure from Sichuan Opera Facial Masks. Then, we integrated previous structure into this site. Finally, separate hard ground and greening.

07 SUINING PHOENIX PENINSULA PARK CITY Professional Work Suining, Sichuan

This plan targets on wealthy people, instead of Suining locals, most of whom work in Chengdu and Chongqing. Suining is a small town starts its urbanization in recent decades. Its best advantage is the location between Chengdu and Chongqing. How to balance the low income locals with wealthy outsiders becomes the essential part of this plan. Different functions, apartment layouts are concerned.
