Dear Medical Education-loving family and beloved region: My name is Ximena Paredes González, fifth year medical student, current NOME and first Medical Education Trainer of IFMSAParaguay. It is a great honor, and the biggest joy in the world, for me to present my candidature for the SCOME Regional Assistant for the Americas for the 2017/18 term. My beautiful journey on Medical Education began many years ago, growing up in an environment filled up with the topic, especially since both my parents are Doctors and Educators in the Medical field. During my high school years, I developed a passion for Teaching, transmitting knowledge, and making human beings grow through Education. In 2015 I discovered the IFMSA, completely by mistake, and through it I found the Best Committee in the whole world, SCOME. Thanks to a very close friend, and to whom I owe a lot of the path I traveled in this Federation, I became a candidate for Local Officer on Medical Education, and eventually was elected. Through this time, I completely fell in love with this Committee that has given me so much! I learned more about the work of the Federation, as well as SCOME, and my motivation was increasing more every day, as well as my desire to make a change and serve others. With this will to work, the next term I became a candidate and was elected as the NOME. In this position, I wasn’t just learning more and more things, but I also began building friendships, outside my University, in the Region, and all over the world. Working and talking to them, I realized that the concept I had of Medical Education was tiny in comparison to what it really involved; I discovered that the Federation doesn’t work to just create activities that help develop students even further, but also collaborates with other organizations in multiple aspects of MedEd. This motivated me to capacitate myself further, thus attending the TMET in Puebla, Mexico. During that moment I finally understood an amazing amount of things, which only motivated me further in working for this Committee.
I postulated to become the NOME for a second term, creating a plan that wasn’t just focused on fixing my thousand mistakes from the previous term, but also in integrating all the new things I had learned to that point. I wanted to be the person that spread the word, as well as the knowledge, and I wanted many students to start working and advocating for Medical Education in my country. In my current labor, I have not only facilitated sessions, but I have also coordinated National and International SCOME Sessions and Medical Education trainings. With all the work I have done, the work I’m still doing, and the response I get from my fellow SCOMEdians and future colleagues, I have decided to give back in a big way, providing work, effort and dedication. I hope that, with this letter, I was able to express all of my love for both my Region and my Committee, my origins, and take the time to thank you all for all that you have made me become. SCOME love for all,
Xime
