Swan
The swan represents elegant, classic and pure. This is the first image I have when I get this project, because this is a high-end and organic market. Thinking about organic, then I wanted the concept connect with nature. Swan living in the lake, the environment, create such beautiful organism. The swan is a very elegant animal, the line and shape of the body and neck are very organic. I will use this organic shape into the market and cafÊ design. The swan has not had the feminine feel, but also have the powerful look. When it’s not moving and floating on the water, it has the quiet and elegant feeling. However, when the swan opens its wings and fly, it feels so strong. The main color on swan is white, gray, black and orange. Those colors will be the main color in the design. This project designed and completed with Nina Huang.

All the furniture have in the area, it was all made with white textile and nature wood. It’s also connected with the concept. One important fixture in the café or say the entire project is the floating waving lighted fixture that dropped from the ceiling and create a feeling of water and also as a wayfinding for the customer.

For the kitchen, wall is a whole piece of floor to ceiling black materials to balance with the white color in the whole area. Even to the ceiling, it’s a covered gypsum board in the black color that create a powerful feeling what swan bring to us. The shape of the kitchen wall curved without any sharp corner which also connect with the concept be organic. Also, as shown in the rendering, the lighting fixture will continue floating to the other side of the space, as a wayfinding for the customer. Next to the kitchen are bar and restroom. The bar is for customer waiting in the line for the café, they can grab a drink first.

There are a orange strip go over in all the bottom of the counter, it’s like a signature in the whole space. Not seeing much, but important in the design. On the flooring, there is a transition from cafÊ area to the market area which tell the customer that it’s two area.

| Idea Devolopment | There are two details drawing shows the display area for dry food and wine cellar. First talking about the dry food area, the display shelf is from floor to ceiling and covered by gray wood materials. This is a high-end market, and they only sell the best quality food from San Francisco or in California. That’s why the number of the product is limited. The shelf in the middle has dropped wires connect it from the ceiling, it has an organic shape and made in white gypsum board. On the bottom rendering, is the wine cellar that has an automatic glass door which to keep the lower temperature inside. By having the wine bottle on the wall with the proper height that the customer wouldn’t squat to grab a wine.

| Concept & Inspiration | This Enso circle means a moment when the mind is free letting the body create. Zen has different means for each person. For this living space, is to create a space with balance, peace and the connection with nature. Zen means opening your mind and free your body. The client is a designer, and the house will be the place for him to rest and maybe get some inspiration. He likes Asian art which brings him calm. Hope he can be more settle down with this design concept. Zen is quite but there’s a powerful strength in the mind to lead you. The traditional Japanese house is the inspiration for this project. When I travel to Kyoto Japan, I went to many houses and the temple that made in wood construction. It has open space with great day light. It has used many wood partitions and sliding door in the design. When needed, all the doors can be open and next to nature.

| Floor Plan & Programing | This house located in 13 wood st. San Francisco. It’s a 3 story house, and the client stays on the second floor. In the original construction, it has a great view of the ocean, beautiful natural light in the daytime. The client doesn’t like all the doors in the house and considers he will stay alone in the house, the first thing is going to remove most of the doors which could make the space much bigger. The client like hard surface and earth tone color. He’s not going to cook a lot in the house, but still need refrigeration and just in case if any guest come in the house and have a party. The client has a large collection of art, that’s the reason turn the long hallway to a showplace for the art collection. There’s no solid wall in the house, but partitions what makes the house more bright.

For the furniture collection, I go from clean and simple which the concept is. The lighting made in wood which to a patio and next to the office. Between the office and dining room, there’s no solid wall, but a protein made in wood studs with artwork display. Furniture selection in the dining room is like other furniture are simple, clean and organic. Be balanced in this space, it has dark gray and light gray color, and combine with the light wood color.

Residential Design 13 Wood St. The client is a designer and he will work at home sometimes. Arrange the office next to the living room, because in this area is a public area that a guest will stay here. Continue to use materials of hard surface and wood materials to follow the concept. In this area, it has the nice view from the bay and nature daylight. For people who work at home, it’s very important to create an environment to stay. This is also the concept wants to express that free your mind when you work at home.

doesn’t want those doors in the house, so even in the bedroom there’s no door. However, it still have the privacy that you only see a window in the bedroom from the hallway. Hallway
This is a view from the entrance and look at the living room. In this area, I want to create an art gallery space for the client. To use the advantage of natural light and bring more ambient light into this area. An art gallery needs to be quiet and clean to show the beauty of the artwork. Use those clean and simple materials to create the environment. The partition is between the dining room and home office that brings more natural light in the hallway, and the partition makes the interior space lighter.

This bath room next to bedroom. On the wall countinue use the partition style in the office which brings unity to this house. There’s no door for the bathroom that client said he doesn’t need. During day time there’s enough nature light.
| Idea Development | This an elevation view of the hallway. The client has a large art collection, and the best way to create places to put those artworks is to create a home art gallery for him. In the original floor plan, the client doesn’t like the long hallway. To keep the original and structural walls, no need for removing the wall and turn it into an interesting art gallery hallway. When a client gets home, he will immediately see the art gallery, this is the space for him to transfer the mood from outside of the home. The used large amount of ambient light in this area that could light up the artwork and also create the mood.

| Concept & Inspiration | Ballet Ballet is a type of performance dance. Ballerina uses their grace and movement with strength to show one wonderful performance. The scenic design, costume and lighting all connect with this concept. Jewelry and diamonds are the dreams for women, so as ballet. Diamonds looks beautiful after polish, because it’s the hardest rock. Similar with ballerina, looks beautiful on the stage, but all the elements connect with ballect to create a dream jewelry store. Three critical factors are full customer service, comfortable shopping environment and Understanding Consumer Behavior.

| Floor Plan & Programing | This is a corner store. This is a jewelry store which is famous by their diamond and the client has a specific requires for the merchandise and showcase. The total is 120 linear feet, the challenge of this project is to put in all the linear and has a concise floor plan. The most important merchandise in the store are engagement, wedding, and diamond. Then they also have jewelry, watches, and gifts. In the floor plan, the entrance is in the middle of the store and follow my concept ballet, I designed the middle part looks like a stage. In the first part are jewelry, watches, and gifts. There are seating area and repair station. Then move to the second part of the store are diamond, wedding and engagement merchandise. Retail Design 13 Wood St. For the exterior and entry design, I use strips on the exterior that follow the idea of stage curtains. To balance the gray and light color, the door is in black. Then move to the window display that has a translucent glass that only the center of the window is clear. In the back of the window display are fabric strips which also follow the concept. There are signage over the door, and on the door glass. Signage also on the side of the awnings. There is also a banner at the corner of the store.
| Idea Development | The elevation view shows the Boiserie Bamboo panel used in this design. By following the concept of ballet, taking the shape and line from the stage curtain, I found this adjustable panel that can change the color of those strips and it’s also easy to install and maintains. In the bottom image shows the diamond and engagement merchandise area. Main display shelf follows the shape of the carpet, and in the center of the carpet. The client asks for the manager’s office can see the sales floor, so on the right side where behind the glass panel wall is the office. In the middle of the glass is covered by the white patterns, when customer walking around in the store, they wouldn’t see the manager working inside. When the manager wants to see the sales floor, he can stand up and see clearly outside.
