Learning and Working Community

̶individual work

Time:Apr.2022-Aug.2022 Site: Shigamura,Matsumoto

Due to the declining birthrate, ageing population and the outflow of working people to urban areas, the local community has not only suffered a decline in the number of people, but also a major imbalance of generations.

On top of that, after the spread of the new coronavirus, the number of people of working age who choose to live a lifestyle of migration and bicentre residence, triggered by new ways of working such as remote work and work-location, is increasing and it is possible that a redistribution of human population from the city to the region will take place in the future.

The "Noah Skyscraper" project addresses the reality that the habitat of life on earth is being destroyed and that species are declining. Through this project we hope to warn humanity that there are many species that are being persecuted on our planet, in addition to humans. Brazil is one of the countries facing this problem. The Amazon rainforest in Brazil accounts for half of the world's rainforest and 21% of the forest area, making it the largest and most diverse tropical rainforest in the world. In recent years the Amazon rainforest has been subject to frequent forest fires due to over-deforestation and climate change issues, and even human factors, and nearly a fifth of the forest has been destroyed, destroying the space that local species depend on.

The project aims to help the species build a new home away from human destruction and to build a research centre on this basis. Scientific research is carried out while protecting the species, preserving the genetic data and perpetuating the species. We believe that by protecting species we are also protecting people themselves.

THEORETICAL RESEARCH

The goal of evolutionary architecture is to achieve symbiotic behavioral and metabolic balance in the built environment, which is a phenomenon that follows the natural environment. This architectural thought embodies the biological philosophy that regards man and the natural environment as symbiotes. Here are some examples of how biology and architecture coexist.

The Amazon rainforest is disappearing before our eyes. Every day vast swaths of virgin forest are recklessly cut down to make way for vast human farms and mining for minerals. However, the new data show us that this bastion of nature, which has been in place for at least 55 million years, will collapse much faster than anyone predicted, with consequences that will shake the planet. So what does the future hold for?

A bio-energy facade technology turns algae into the "skin" of the building and feeds its own renewable energy into the building system, creating an energy-sustainable organism.

Time:Sept.2021-Dec.2021 Site: Hachioji-shi,Tokyo

Hachiōji is located in the foothills of the Okutama Mountains of western Tokyo, about 40 kilometers west of the center of the 23 special wards of Tokyo.

Hachioji is known as the 'mulberry capital', where sericulture and weaving have flourished since ancient times. The origin of Hachioji textiles is said to date back to when they were traded at the market under Takiyama Castle, and textiles are part of Hachioji's local culturl.

By preserving tradition and continuing to experiment with new ideas, the textile industry, a traditional industry in Hachioji, can be carried on into the future.

DESIGN BACKGROUND

The University Seminar House in the mountains of Hachioji was designed by Takamasa Yoshisaka, who also designed the layout plan, various research buildings and associated facilities. In recent years, parts of the building have been demolished for reasons of age, and most of the dispersed accommodation buildings, known as unit houses, seen in the current design, have disappeared, and new facilities have been built by other designers.

In recent years, they have increasingly been used for training for working people, and the purpose for which they are used has changed with the times.

History of textiles

Hachioji is known as the 'mulberry capital', where sericulture and textiles have flourished since ancient times. The entire production area worked on modernisation, including the formation of the Hachioji Textile Trade Association, and gradually achieved success. In other words, textiles are a part of Hachioji's local culture. N S=1:1500

DESIGN PROPOSAL

It is envisaged that university students studying textile-related knowledge, such as fashion and interior design, and working people working in textile-related companies will be able to make textiles in the facility for accommodation and educational training. The project is inspired by the "cocoon" in which people live in contemporary internet life.

Using the city of Tokyo as a base, we designed a game of exploration and puzzle solving to make people aware of the existence of the cocoon and try to break out of it. The game is set in the future, organising the city base with buildings, elevated roads and metacellular towers, and creating cocoons and cocoon rooms to represent the isolation and alienation of the city.

As people become accustomed to adapting to their own "cocoon", the differences between groups of people gradually widen, creating segregation.

People may not break out of their cocoon due to factors like confirmation bias, selective exposure, echo chambers, and the reinforcement of pre-existing beliefs, which can limit theirselves.

GAME OVERVIEW

The player will be born on the streets of a lost Tokyo more than a hundred years later, with nothing but a voice in his head guiding him to explore the world. During the exploration, the player will encounter different characters and their cocoon rooms, and will need to solve puzzles and logical reasoning to unlock the truth of this world. Only when the exploration level is high enough can the quest be completed and help the people of this world to break open their cocoon rooms and return to the original world. If you do not have enough exploration level, you will be lost in Lost Tokyo forever.

During the game, players can also unlock special chapters with their characters, collect special rewards, and reach special achievements.

GAME MECHANISM

O was still standing in the street confused when he suddenly plummeted downwards and fell into something.

SHINJUKU-KABUKICHO/HOST

I mainly work at night. Because of the high income, I can directly live in an expensive house rented in Shinjuku district without the stress of commuting.

O solves the mysteries of the world and helps people out of their cocoons. He eventually returns to his own world.

O followed the arrows gradually finding cocoons crawling on the walls.

Follow Cocoon O to a space. This is the first time O has ever encountered a cocoon room with people living.

The crisis came when O had already been to some cocoons and thought he had learnt the workings of the world. He fell into uncharted space.

When O explores the full cocoon, the manipulators finally emerge. The manipulator tells O the truth.

CHIYODA-CAPITOL/POLITICIAN

O didn't accomplish the goal for which it was summoned over a hundred years later, but he was thrilled to leave Lost Tokyo back in his own world.

O visits all the cocoon rooms but fails to open them, so he can't find his way back either and gets lost in Lost Tokyo.

Because of his lack of exploration, O also is trapped himself in a cocoon room and can never leave it as well as return to his original world.

I prepare for meetings at 8:00 a.m. every morning, have numerous meetings, and meet with various visitors. will also confirmation of the next day's programme with the Secretary.

I don't have a regular job, I like manga and animate characters, I wander aimlessly around Ikebukuro, shop at secondary peripherals and cafes, I earn my income mainly from my part-time job (I don't have fixed working hours), don't have much of a dream.

SUMIDA-SUMO MUSEUM/SUMO WRESTLER

I have a relatively free schedule, in the morning I'll get up early, have breakfast and then do my sumo training. After that I'll take a shower, have lunch, and then take a nap. Afternoons are also free, I'll go out with friends and have an early dinner. Sleep is very important for athletes, and at night I go to bed early when I get home.

A metacellular automaton is an array of light bulbs like the one shown in Figure 1, where each light has two states, "on" and "off", and each light is connected to the eight surrounding lights (the lights on one side are considered to be connected to the other side, e.g., the light on the far left is considered to be connected to the light on the far right). For example, the leftmost light will be considered to be connected to the rightmost light. This way all the lights are connected to all 8 lights).

In the wave of rapid economic growth, train lines were elevated and towns along the line were transformed into cities. Overnight, long-familiar scenes of the city were transformed into concrete blocks, and casually familiar street corners became a memory.

The redevelopment projects around the stations have gradually displaced unique and attractive shops, and major chain shops are taking over. On the other hand, station buildings, like all commercial buildings everywhere, do not feel the same atmosphere of the city.

Unlike street-level shops, shops in buildings that feel comparatively enclosed are less likely to catch the eye of many people. One of the reasons may be the lack of flexibility, restricting various appearances and layouts to the tenants who open shops.

Therefore, this design redesign of an existing station building proposes a three-dimensional circulation line rather than a two-dimensional one, aiming for an open and free shop space.

DESIGN BACKGROUND

In the wave of rapid economic growth, train lines were elevated and towns along the line were transformed into cities. Overnight, long-familiar scenes of the city were transformed into concrete blocks, and casually familiar street corners became memories.

The redevelopment project around Kichijoji Station has gradually displaced unique and attractive shops, and major chain shops are taking over. On the other hand, the station buildings are the same commercial buildings everywhere, so why don't we feel the atmosphere of the city?

Shops on the ground level

Current station building

Unlike street shops, shops in buildings, which feel comparatively enclosed, do not catch the attention of many people. One of the reasons for this may be that they restrict the tenants who open shops to various appearances and layouts, giving them less freedom.

・ The product departments on each floor are clearly categorised. However, we consider that there is limited enjoyment for customers in exploring the space while shopping.

SITE ANALYSIS

・ Horizontally, the street-level shops are unclassified, which enhances the mood of wandering around. Even inside the shop, you can see the view outside.

・ Therefore, this design is a redesign of the existing station building, aiming for an open and free shop space and planning a three-dimensional circulation flow rather than a two-dimensional circulation.

・In order to enhance the three-dimensional circulation, the two parts of the building will be connected by an elevated connecting passageway.

My Programme

General Skip Floor

・Plan by considering only the height of the person.

I think of each floor of the building as its own street-level retail area, with each floor overlapping, shifting and interlocking to form a three-dimensional town, further three-dimensionalising the circulation like town planning.

There is also a skeep floor within the shop space.

The extensive use of skip floors and reinforced glass bearing walls creates spaces where shops can feel each other's presence, rather than existing separately, and where a variety of interaction opportunities arise.

SITE & DESIGN OBJECTIVES

Site: 3 Nakajima-cho, Kodaira, Tokyo

The promenade along the south-surface water surface is where people from all walks of life come to mingle and relax. The site is surrounded by greenery in a quiet environment, with houses and apartment blocks and a komorebi-no-at-foot spa in close proximity. Design a house that creates a good relationship with the surrounding natural and social environment.

CONCEPT

In a normal house, the staircase would only go up and have no other function. In this case, the staircase is designed as a children's playground.

Residential + α

The house and bakery function together. The household structure consists of a couple and two children, with the father selling the bakery in the shop and the mother in the kitchen, where she can safely watch the children having fun and playing. kitchen bakery

Dying Room

Stage Room

From the exterior, the staircase is surrounded by a glass wall, creating an open space. There is also a perfect view of the upper water.

INSIDE

In contrast to the two-storey residential space, spaces were created that are skip floors on the 1.5 and 2.5 floors, creating more space for children to run around.

Boundaries and Distances Gallery Space

DESIGN BACKGROUND

A gallery is planned for the bicycle parking lot next to Building 8, which faces the new road that bisects the Musashino Art University's Takanodai campus. The gallery will be open not only to the campus community, but also to visitors to the campus, residents of the neighbourhood and school children who use the road as a route to school, and will exist between relationships and connections. Here, various relationships are possible, such as university and community, visitors and students, outside and inside, artworks and viewers, etc.

・ campus map

BOUNDARIES

People outside the school, students inside the school and people across the street from each other when viewing a work of art at the window also notice each other. The aim is not to create a direct comminication, but a more ambiguous one.

CONCEPT

Viewed from the glass window side outside the school, the eye can visually focus on the students inside the school. It also makes people outside the school pay more attention to the on-campus students.

People outside the school and students inside the school, even if they want to see each other, cannot pass the shortest straight line and take their time to appreciate and enjoy the artwork. campus outside
