Why so serious? Laugh a little more A person who does not find the humor in life has a bad day. When they have a bad day, they go home and cry. When they cry, they get their clothing wet. Don’t get your clothing wet. Find the humor in life. This is the adage by which I live my life and have found much success with. This goes a step beyond just being optimistic. It requires one to literally laugh out loud at some point during the day. Laughter really is the best medicine, and boy, does it make your day go so much better. A sense of humor is essential to a fruitful existence. I truly believe God intended us to have a sense of humor. He does. I

an eventful future. As I move on to bigger and better things, I hope that my sense of humor will not diminish. When I look back on my life, I want to say that I brightened other people’s days. I want to say I discovered an up-and-coming best laugh. Well, there it is. Be kind to one another. Try something new. Laugh. Live. Love. Eat ice cream and be merry. Farewell, one and all. mean, come on, have you seen the platypus? Humor is all around us and allows us to keep living. Can you imagine a world without laughter? We would have to sit stone-faced trying to claw apart the government plastic that surrounds almost

every product we buy nowadays. If it weren’t for a sense of humor, I wouldn’t be able to get over my fear of Furby. It is that important. I challenge all of you to find what makes you laugh. In a world of constant sorrow, a sense of humor brightens the light of

Everything I could want and more As excited as I am to go to Notre Dame next year and start my new adventure, I can’t help but well up when I think about leaving Xavier. Why? I LOVE IT HERE. At Xavier, we have the best teachers, the best activities, and the best atmosphere. I wouldn’t trade my experiences here for all of the chocolate in the world. I’m convinced they put something in our teachers’ water. I do not think we could have had a better bunch of educators to lead us through our high school career. Not only do they teach their subject areas with knowledge and passion, but they also care about us as students and as people. There is not a teacher in this building who wants you to fail, in their class or at life. I know that if I ever had a problem, whether

it was trying to derive in calculus class, attempting to conjugate in Spanish class, or wading through hours of reading in English or Government, my teachers would be there for me through it all. Xavier has so much to offer outside of the classroom as well. In my three and a half years here, I’ve been involved in so many activities that my college

application résumé looks like a novel. There’s so much to dive into at Xavier, and everyone can be involved if they choose to. It presents an issue: it’s impossible to do everything, so what should one do? I cannot think of a better issue for a school to have, and I have loved every minute of every activity I’ve been involved in. Not only do we have an

excessively large amount of activities, we also have an extremely supportive community. Everyone supports each other, and I think that’s very unique. Last fall, when I was in The Odd Couple, the entire varsity volleyball team came to see the show. Where else are you going to find a community like that? Here’s what I’m getting at: I love it here and you should too. I am so blessed to have gone to a school that allowed me to grow not only academically, but spiritually as well. So be thankful! You’re going to miss this place when you’re gone.

Four cheers for Xavier High School For the past four years, I have gotten to know the best girls through being a part of the cheerleading squad. I have made so many memories and I am so happy that I had the chance to be a cheerleader. To sum up my time here, I chose a cheer to describe each of my years at Xavier. Freshman year: “Freshmen, freshmen, don’t be shy! Shout out your battle cry.” At the first pep rally, I was so scared to cheer in front of so many students! When it was our turn to do our cheer and no one responded, it was quite embarrassing. As I thought back, I realized that we should not be afraid to be ourselves and think of Xavier as our second home. Sophomore year: “Hey, are

you ready to strut your stuff? Hey, are you ready to get fired up?” Sophomore year you know your way around the school, you may be able to drive your own car, and now you feel like you belong more to the Xavier community. At Xavier, we learn to be ourselves and strut our stuff!

through and never giving up, we can strive to be the best. Senior year: “S-A-I-N-T-S. Xavier Saints are the best. V-I-CT-O-R-Y. Victory, victory Xavier High.” I am so proud to be a Xavier Saint. I think that the senior class has been victorious in everything that we accomplished on the field, court, stage, and classroom. Although I am sad that my time at Xavier is over, I Junior year: “Power, Xavier can’t wait to hear about the accomplishments power! Xavier power, go power, amazing go get’em, Xavier power. Power. the future Saints will have. Xavier power.” We all know that junior year is difficult because of academics, trying to decide which college to attend, and McKenzie Potter holding down a job.
