Show choirs wrap-up competition season The Xavier show choirs Xuberance and Xhilaration brought their competitive seasons to a close on Saturday, February 25 at Kennedy’s show choir invitational, Raise the Roof. Xuberance came in third place in the prep division and Xhilaration received fifth place in the varsity division. Throughout the season, Xhilaration and Xuberance attended two out of town competitions in Muscatine and Benton, and two in town at LinnMar and Kennedy. Xhilaration also attended Viterbo in Onalaska, Wisconsin, which was their first competition of the season, but Xuberance did not attend. In the varsity division, Harry Daubitz received best male soloist at both Viterbo and Raise the Roof and Meredith Diebold received best female soloist at Muscatine.

In the prep division, Emma Deignan was awarded best female soloist at both Linn-Mar and Kennedy. Members of both show choirs say that their favorite parts of the season are these competitions. “My favorite part is laughing hysterically at girls’ warm up,” junior Allison Pitz said about her experience in Xhilaration this year. “Why is Cameron on the floor?” This past weekend Xavier hosted their annual middle school competition, Xtravanganza, an allday competition for middle school show choirs. This competition is unique from other middle school competitions in that they are given the opportunity to go to a finals round in the evening, whereas most other competitions for middle schools do not include finals. Xtravaganza is one of the biggest fund raisers for Xaiver show choirs.

Members of Xhilaration and Xuberance and their parents worked hard to get everything ready for the competition. The room hosts came in on Friday evening to decorate each of the rooms with a unique theme. Xavier show choir members and their parents also helped throughout the day on Saturday to keep things running smoothly. The final performances of Xhilaration and Xuberance will take place tonight at Xavier in the Regis LaSalle Theater. There will be performances at 6 and 8 p.m.
