We have members across BC, and we acknowledge the multiple First Nations traditional territories where we live, work and play. Our organization is housed in the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, and centered in the islands of the mid-Salish Sea. As such we specifically acknowledge our organizational host, the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, and our hosts of several nations, collectively the SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples, also referred to as the Malchosen, the Lekwungen, the Semiahmoo, and the T’Souke. We share a way forward based on mutual respect and marked by stories of our communities learning together in this time of Truth and Reconciliation.

What you have in your hands

One of the things that happens in systems change investigation, as we envision alternative futures we quickly run out of words to describe it. What does pathology mean in a world where all beings have purpose? Neologisms become our main coin, and I have been reminded that we simply have to include repeating that framework at the start of any dialogue. As Stephen Covey puts in the Seven Habits, ‘With People, going slow is fast.’ Our intention to define our premises has taken the form of a ‘wrapper’ that is added to our supporting documents. A wrapper that continues to synthesize and refine that which we have been trying to explain since the beginning of the initiative. We say supporting because we see knowledge sharing as something that happens best in dialogue, in circle. This wrapper is a combination of text and images meant to communicate at more than the narrow band of written text. See with your eyes and listen with your heart. The format of these documents is called a Pattern Language, which is explained in greater detail in the ‘wrapper’. Pattern Languages are more than a format, they are a commitment to render any discernment of information in a manner that makes it accessible to the greatest number of people. Pattern Languages are also a commitment that when we do the work of identifying any issue with any group of people, we are also committed to including their distilled knowledge of solutions to that issue. And to do so in a manner that it can be applied when the issue arises in any future circumstance. A stich in time saves nine as it is said. So, please excuse the repetition, while mentioning that even if you have seen this multiple times, it is always good to review from time to time. Your questions and suggestions are invaluable! OUR MISSION

Is the promotion of gender wellness through research and education. Gender wellness is the set of personal strategies and public policies that makes our genders a beneficial part of our lives, families, and communities.

OUR FOCUS

Are people (and their families) who are: anticipating, exploring, considering, living through, or wanting to share their lived experience of physical, social, and personal transition related to gender.

OUR PREMISES The trans phenomena has three constituent parts, the trans condition, which is innate, and the trans experience, which is persistent, and underlying these is transness, an immeasurable but usable element. There is no single narrative of the trans phenomena, but there are clusters of importance. Our experience of gender is different because we are trans, We are not trans because our experience of gender is different. The first job of all is to leave a better planet than the one we were given at birth.

A Social License is an inalienable attribute of any community. As service providers we are called to stewardship of this privilege.

AND MOST OF ALL - A PROACTIVE, UNCEASING SHIFTING TO DECOLONIZATION UNDOCK THE CLOCK Whatever the ultimate reality of time may be, what matters most is our perception of it. It is amongst our primary, learned sense making tools we use in all that we think about, do, and ultimately become. We ask “How long will this take?” Impatient when fast food takes 10 minutes to prepare. Are we there yet? Is a common metaphor of a child’s perception of time. What is ours?

When we consider the trillion cells in our bodies working together to maintain stability—their communication process emulates the description of a lingua franca, or trade language. The eye cells and the toes need to work out avoidance of future toe stubbings and eye pokings and maintain the standard with all the muscles in between. We are aware of it all of the time so we tend to ignore it. It is called Trance.

It is a completely internal language comprised of image and sound rather than mere words.

(tau=beneficial qualities of ineffable transness, (1/3 of phenomena)) That is, how any event of significance in our lives unfolds is as important in itself as where we begin and where we end. It’s the journey…….tilixaN Tau practice is that by good planning and practice we can make these events contribute to the nurturing of the wellness of any person through the work of healing.

We begin with a different model of the mind . What you see on this page is our current attempt to decolonize our thinking around this core concept. That is, in all cognitive centric work, the model of the mind establishes the remaining paradigms. It is the key paradigm all who toil in the fields of mental wellness must define for themselves. Our model at its core is Etuapmumk in itself. It is two things at the same time, a material base using the most up to date science to provide language for what our ancestors are demonstrating to us in real time. We thank Elder Albert Marshall for this teaching. A common human cognitive experience is one called ‘trance’. Wachowski might call this the matrix. Western psychology views this as something activated through some form of interaction. (I hypnotize you) Tau see it the other way. Tau view trance as the active ongoing, natural, state, the ‘trade languages’ of the various forms of consciousness that make up ourselves as a whole person. This language is so fast it is as if instantaneous but it is quantum in its nature and trance is the wave form of what we also know discretely (upon observation) as consciousness. Tau define hypnosis as the intentional use of the trade language (trance) of our very separate houses of consciousness to create change. We have to learn a bit of the language of each house and speak a combination of all to create that change. Hypnosis is learning to manage our internal trade. This diagram of interwoven infinity symbols is the backbone of a framework for anyone to guide their personal trance work. The system works best when maintained rather than challenged, though it does improve resilience to mitigate those challenges.

Safeguard Everyone Foundations of Wellness

Regularly in my research writing over the past five years, one topic that has appeared has been the paradigm of comparing the academic lore of ethics and the construction trades lore of ethics. It ends up a comparative without a common language. The trade lore of ethics can be summed in this pattern language—everyone goes home safe every day and my everyone’s job everyday is to first make sure everyone goes home safe every day. Not sure if academics can be summed up but it might be—reasonably protect everyone but the institution first. Not an unreasonable objective but one that establishes a power dynamic that in time becomes unreasonable.

The Tau teach that there must be a way for each and all, something between, arrived at in the moment of good group consideration arrived at through better organized dialogue. ITS AN ART, and needs to be managed accordingly. In Tau research circles we look to the origins, lore, and presence of any Nation and we find anthropologists working away having learned through decades of hard learning in the modern era how to better interact with communities of humans. And so in the Mystery School structure we start with the Three Chairs of Fate, which can also be termed as the Nyxian Chairs, for these are truly the forces of fate flowing through our lives. Even Zeus could not change the outcomes of fates as they measured, cut and wove together, only get a fortelling of that thread’s outcome.

For they are the direct daughters of Nyx in the Tau telling of it. And as Nyx herself is the first named of the dark energy that existed before all else. For the past 3,000 years the western names for them have been Clotho (Spinner), Lachesis (Allotter), and Atropos (Inflexible). Tau use their Latin names given them by the Romans, Nona, Decuma, and Morta. And so we set these three Chairs as the First Chairs, the Chairs of the School of Governance and Chairs to be held by anthropologists. For as certain that ethics must be more than protection, so governance must be more than diplomacy and management. It is the intent that in a universe where all beings have purpose, it is fulfilled in the best way for all when everyone is thriving. ChrŸs Tei - Winter 2021-2022 23

TAU, THE 19TH LETTER OF THE GREEK ALPHABET has been used for thousands of years in many ways. Here are some of them.

Who is an initiate? An initiate is 'a person who is exploring, investigating, preparing for, or desiring to share their lived experience of Tau. The Tau Mystery School is an “open” school, allowing those who aspire to higher knowledge to do so while living in and among the world. 25

Why are mystery schools a mystery? Throughout the ages Mystery Schools have hidden in plain sight and provide services both to the public and behind closed doors for ‘those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear'. All wisdom teachings center on how to discern that which is of value in life. Our process is connecting with the voices of one’s ancestors, or as named by Carl Jung, the collective unconscious. This connection is a source of selfreliance in all individuals. Colonization as a process of conquest and domination, results in subjugation and dependence. The teachings of self-reliance became a threat to the colonizer. Mystery schools went underground to protect their teachings. For most mystery schools, one would be invited after careful observation that the y were ready.
