Xtreme Sales, based in Christchurch, specialises in modifying pick-ups to a standard required by the toughest of commercial uses, fitting products that transform them from a highly capable working vehicles to unbeatable all-round, reliable trucks. Pick-up sales are extremely healthy as more and more utility companies and commercial users turn to the 4x4 with traditional off-road abilities. As the Defender nears its end in 2015, commercial users are looking for more costeffective and reliable alternatives. A modified 4x4 pick-up truck fits the requirements of companies who require a workhorse that can cope with constant off-road abuse, fewer breakdowns and get from A to B through the toughest of terrains.
Xtreme Sales is a young business, but has built up a strong client base and is securing new relationships with commercial customers and can offer the commercial operator a boutique service, talking through the specific requirements. The demise of the expensive and often unreliable Land Rover Defender in commercial operators’ future plans and the costs of vehicles such as the Unimog, mean a modded pick-up truck is an excellent choice at a fraction of the cost (i.e. a Toyota Hilux retails at £20,000 and is highly adaptable) but offering excellent reliability and tough off-roading capability while providing a more refined on-road drive.
Those products include the Alu-Cab load-bed canopy, Rhino Bumpers, Rival underbody protection, Hutchinson wheels and TJM suspension systems.

Some bumpers are large. Some are lairy. Some even make a big deal of being discreet. But it’s been a long time since we saw a pick-up truck looking as funky, cool and downright rude as those wearing Rhino4x4’s Evolution bumpers. Excellent news then, is that Xtreme Sales has started importing the Rhino4x4 range to the UK. They’re mainly available for one-tonne pick-ups like the Hi-Lux, Ranger and Amarok at this stage, though more models will be coming on-stream as the year progresses. The bumpers are made up of three separate pieces but, once mounted, the front section appears as one piece neatly fitting the shape of the truck. The two side pieces come with gaps provided for fog lights, while the middle part holds a winch mount and tow hooks. A front skid plate, attached to the middle section, protects the lower front of the vehicle and is included with every Evolution bumper. The bumpers are made of 3mm thick steel, while the skid plate uses 5mm thick aluminum. An anticorrosion undercoat is applied to the bumper before being powder coated to give it a more durable finish. Because of the bumper’s three piece construction, the parts can be replaced separately should one of them be damaged.
10
All models are compatible with the vehicle’s airbags system too - no small issue for all sorts of reasons. The bumpers come as standard in a choice of black, white or chrome finishes, but on request they’re available painted in any colour to match your vehicle. If you really want to stand out, you can order each of the three pieces in a different finish. The phrase ‘gilding the lily’ comes to mind, but each to their own. The Evolution bumper is designed as a direct replacement for the original without any cutting required.

Those who have been to Russia tend not to come home raving about how smooth the roads are. So you’d think the off-road industry out there ought to know a bit about underbody protection.
TOYOTA
Rival is a new name to the UK, but the Russian outfit has been growing fast since 2006 and is on target to ship one million products during the course of 2014.
VW
JEEP
With 450 staff and four warehouses covering Europe and the USA, this isn’t a small outfit. For evidence of that, just take a look at the range of vehicles the company can armour up. There’s a load of soft-roaders in there, but plenty of proper off-roaders too – and depending on your model, plates to protect numerous different bits of its underside. If yours is a JK Wrangler Rubicon for example, there’s a full six-piece kit available at around £1300 which is decent value for that much metal. The metal in question is usually aluminium rather than steel so as well as being strong, Rival plates are light in weight and resistant to rusting.
They’re stamped for rigidity and pre-drilled for easy installation too, so attaching one to your vehicle ought to be a straightforward job with the spanners. Rival’s range does tend to be influenced by its home market. But the company says it can have new fitments developed and ready for sale within a week, which is quite some going. This is a company that can armour an awful lot of vehicles for a sensible amount of money. FORD

UPRACKS roof racks have been designed to meet any roof load requirement. The eight sizes available, configured in different lengths and widths, can be readily combined to any vehicle roof. Just check the effective surface area of your vehicle roof, and select the correct size of our UPRACKS roof rack to be fitted. UPRACKS roof racks are made of 100% aluminium alloy, which results in reduced weight at the vehicle’s uppermost point, the roof. It is essential to remember that when you drive off-road (but not only off-road!) the materials, equipment and accessories carried should be well arranged both inside and outside of the vehicle. The high weight materials should be arranged with their load centre as low as possible, while roof load should be reduced to the maximum extent to avoid dangerous swaying movements. For example, an iron or steel roof rack is unfavourable due to its weight per se, which limits load capacity. Because UPRACKS roof racks have a very reduced weight they offer better load capacity. The maintenance manual provided by vehicle manufacturers usually provides specific information on the maximum load permitted and it is important to comply with such indications. UPRACKS has been able to build roof racks which are as low as 14-34 Kg in weight according to roof rack specific sizes.
16
For example: if a vehicle manufacturer specifies a 100kg maximum load capacity, the effective carrying capacity is the net weight derived by deducting the tare weight. Therefore, because an aluminium roof rack weighs only 25kg, you can carry 75kg materials on the roof; on the contrary an iron or steel roof rack weighs at least three times more, i.e. 75kg, and would allow only 25kg load to be carried on the roof!

UPRACKS roof racks can be fitted to the roof by special leg OK kits which are available for vehicles with and without gutter rails. In other words, we can offer all solutions for a proper fitting. Except for those vehicles having fixed attachment points on the roof (in which case we provide a proper customised kit), all of the other vehicles can be equipped with our leg OK kits which are available in three different heights to be perfectly combined to all vehicle roofs. UPRACKS roof racks can be attached to the roof with solutions of 3-7 legs per side; for this reason, leg kits are provided as a pair, thus offering the maximum freedom of choice.

At Powerbrake™ we have one clear objective: to manufacture the very finest brake upgrade kits available. We do not design our kits to fit within a specific price bracket or because some focus group said there was a market for a particular product variation. They are not intended as a cosmetic enhancement. Our brake upgrade kits are designed from the ground up to improve the braking performance of your vehicle…period! Our brake upgrade kits are intended to be the best. That means the best designs, the best materials, the best manufacturing processes and the best quality control. If you’re thinking that this business philosophy sounds expensive to implement, you’d be right, but we refuse to cut corners in order to meet a price point. We manufacture the best and charge what we need to for the end product. It’s an eccentric business philosophy, we admit. Fortunately, it turns out that there is a market for our top-of-the-line brake products. When it comes to professional racing, brake systems are pushed their absolute limits. It is under these testing conditions that Powerbrake™’s products have been proven to outperform and outlast the competition time and time again.
22
With numerous race teams around the world specifying our brake kits, Powerbrake discs and calipers have been used to win a numerous race championships over the past decade. Experienced race teams know that races are very often won or lost under braking. As a company Powerbrake works closely with leading race teams to develop and test cutting-edge products that give race car drivers the edge in terms of brake performance, consistency and durability. When it comes to performance braking there are a number of companies selling cosmetically enhanced brake products and ‘snake oil’. As a company Powerbrake has a strict policy of ‘form follows function’. We are dedicated to designing and manufacturing products that work! We take issue with companies that are willing to drill some holes in any aftermarket brake disc that they can lay their hands on or paint any caliper red and then call it a “high-performance or race brake product”. The fact that a brake disc has slots or holes machined into it or that a brake caliper is painted red, does not mean that it is a well engineered piece of equipment. 15% of all cars in the 2015 Dakar ran on Powebrake. 9 of the top 25 finishers ran on Powerbrake. When you’re off the beaten track, stuck and lacking traction, it’s not always as simple as relying on a mate with traction to bail you out. Steep inclines and muddy conditions are problematic and adding a second vehicle to the dilemma doesn’t help anyone. Using a TJM winch, with a cordless remote for added safety, is a much better way to successfully retrieve your vehicle. TJM’s range of new generation winches now have even more power for increased line speed and faster recovery. A TJM winch will provide the right amount of ‘grunt’ in any situation, thanks to the carefully engineered balance of torque and speed. Tested in some of Australia’s harshest terrain a TJM winch won’t let you down.

Snorkels are commonly the first accessory ever fitted to a four wheel drive. And why wouldn’t they be with all these benefits?
If wheels were your car’s feet, then suspension would be the legs. Just as the strength, length and flexibility of your legs impact on the way in which you move and the way you connect to the ground, different types of suspension determine the functionality, safety and comfort of your vehicle on different terrain.
Not only do they allow for deep water crossings and hassle free air induction when immersed in dust; they also have other key features. The air quality at roof level is cleaner and cooler than air travelling via the bonnet, so this means greater fuel efficiency and less clogging of air filters. These are very important factors, particularly when 4WDing on dry, dusty roads.
Whether you’re tackling corrugated roads, rough terrain, or you need to tow a caravan, the right TJM suspension will contribute to the car’s road handling, braking ability, cushion the ride from bumps, noise and vibration for occupants and protect the vehicle and its contents from wear and tear.
Even when it rains the TJM Airtec design captures and disperses rain drops through drain holes at the base of the air ram. This feature removes excess rain from mixing with the air stream and preventing water intake during heavy rain.
4WD’s have factory-engineered suspension, but it’s usually only enough to accommodate a boot load of gear and general road driving or limited off-road driving. Installing a set of shock absorbers, a pair of springs or a full TJM XGS suspension kit will immediately transform your vehicle’s ride, handling, load carrying and towing capabilities. So don’t forget to talk with your local TJM distributor about your individual suspension needs
26
When it comes to materials, TJM sources only the finest quality to be used in the Airtec range. All products are made with leading Australian polymer materials that exceed the Australian Standard for UV stabilisation of UV8, with ratings at UV20-UV24. The colour pigmentation process doesn’t cut any corners giving you an even, dense and bleed-free product. Unlike other manufacturers, TJM individually engineer and design the snorkel to suit the natural shape of the vehicle. Although functionality is important, we want you to look good too!
