Extension Analysis:
Soils
The Turnpike Extension from Chiefland to Wildwood was analyzed by GIS spatial analysis tools. The whole study areas included county Levy, Marion, Citrus and Sumter. To achieve our goal of a turnpike with least cost and shortest path, we focused on avoidance of surface water, wetlands, and conservation areas following the citizen’s suggestion. And also, avoiding soils with dad drainage in the flood zone, steep slopes and proximate to existing roads in order to meet FDOT engineering requirement.
