Documentrary Town Design Abstraction The approaching post-media age and transformation in communication media have deeply changed out lifestyle. New media such as short video and livestreaming force us to think what kind of city mode (cultural media center for example) we shall build in response to the changes brought by 5G era. From panopticon theory we deduce that city is the largest media of life and relevant information, just as our slogan “City is media, and everything is information” says. We hope the project of Yangliuqing can contribute to the development of urban typology. This is the entry to 2020 UIA-HYP Cup International Student Competition in Architectural Design.

Documentrary Town New Year painting
Prison
After 2020 In 2020, Yuanbao Island is to be built into a cultural media center covering an area of 400*400 square meters, with residences, offices, stores and traffic hubs.
As a public space, the canal serves as a cultural exchange in the city, rather than a barrier. At the same time, the green space along the river provides a natural environment, which is conducive to the health of residents.
Documentrary Town City is media, and everything is information. New Year painting and canal, the two most characteristic cultural symbols of Yangliuqing, are on the edge of extinction under the impact of modern media and technology. Scenes like “Dianran (spotted dying) seen in every household” and “workers busy digging the canal” are becoming ethereal images far from current life.In response to the silent traditional culture in the new media age, a new city mode capable of recording, processing, operating and disseminating information of lifestyle in Yangliuqing is required. The current mode should be added information producers, recorders, posters, operation bodies, maintenance vehicles and storage devices.Everything contains information—when information spreading expands from individual characteristics and knowledge to regional production and life, it has become one of the major functions of cities and towns to make, communicate, operate and manage information, which is as important as residence, tourism, transportation and work. In other words, cities and towns are media that store, present, process and express our life stories.
Function Generation Logic Functional buildings in a city generate from its operation mode.
We must clearly define the “document”, and what information should not be disseminated, as some parts of life must be protected. Privacy is the forbidden red line in the documentary town. Thus, we film freely in some places but leave out others for privacy concerns.

Site Analysis Train station Business area Historical and cultural buildings School Administrative office With the main roads in city as major axis, the urban cultural axis connects Yangliuqing Square and its commercial area with Yangliuqing Ancient Town. In addition, a cultural media center will be built in Yuanbao Island, along with Residence of the Shi Family and Yangliuqing Ancient Town across the canal to make Yangliuqing a characteristic cultural center.
The island traffic is re-planned based on the surrounding road conditions of Yuanbao Island.
A green park will be constructed on the wetland extending along the river. Apprenticeship New Year painting workshop Media and cultural communication Office area Residence area
The site is divided into four plots with different attributes as required in the question. The site opposite to the ancient town is planned for apprenticeship New Year painting workshop that is similar to the Residence of the Shi Family. On the south are media center and school, corresponding to Wenchang Pavilion the east. The southwest corner far from the main road and the town is the office area while the northwest corner adjacent to the painting workshop and office is the residence, which is convenient for commuting with a good view of the river.
The western half of Yuanbao Island is redesigned and divided according to functions.
Interior Divisions
The route is designed with the central square as reference point while considering land attributes; the site layout depends on functions.

Site Analysis
Historical Development
The main traffic concentrates on the cross roads at the entrance of Wenshufang and Wenshu Monastery; the Wenshu Monastery subway station is the southwest corner point, so the square area formed by the four broad main roads horizontally and vertically is the maximum surrounding environment considered in the design.
Qingyin, a three-century-old Sichuan ballad, is originated from folklore of Ming and Qing dynasty, combined with Chinese talking and singing as well as Chinese opera, spreading among Han people in Sichuan Province, south-west China since late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.
Transportation streamline
site
Qingyin is a popular folklore in Sichuan, and is also called “ballad singing” in early times. As the performers play a lute or Pipa while singing, it is also known as “Lute singing”or “Pipa singing”.
The traditional performance of Qingyin is seated singing by a single female per-former in teahouse or storytelling house.
The flourishing Sichuan Qingyin attracted many singers to play after the middle Qing Dynasty, during which music lingers on everywhere and teahouses were crowded with audience.
Peripheral functions Cultural architecture Residential buildings Commercial buildings Office buildings
The location at the junction of the commercial and residential areas secures large foot traffic; historical and cultural buildings with Wenshu Monastery as the core serve as the local economic drivers. With similar cultural features, Sichuan Qingyin Museum targets the same audience of Wenshu Monastery.
Visitors flow distribution The main crowd gather in Wenshu Monastery and streets between Wenshufang commercial and residential areas, with several famous Sichuan pastry shops that attract many tourists.
The century-long war and colonization by foreign powers impeded the development of Qingyin. Then Qingyin embraced another golden era since 1930s or 1940s when it was valued as popular music for all social classes.
Its performance was changed from seated singing to standing singing and from solo to duet and chorus so as to adapt for new theater stage since the establishment of People’s Republic of China. In the 1950s, Li Yueqiu, a renowned Qingyin singer, won a gold medal in Moscow, further encouraging the Qingyin boom in China. Sichuan Qingyin was once forbidden during the Cultural Revolution.
As Ministry of Culture approved Sichuan Province’s requested Qingyin performance of Comrade Jiang Going to Huaying and Cooing Cuckoos in 1977, the Sichuan folklore art returned to the stage.
Landscape greening Lush plants in the site will be kept, as the design aims to preserve the original vegetation as much as possible.
On June 7 of 2008, Sichuan Qingyin was approved by the State Council as the second group of China Intangible Cultural Heritage.
With the changing environment for folk art and its appreciation, Qingyin is forced into an awkward position and talent shortage makes it even harder for Qingyin to be passed down.

It is a folk art with long history and traditional essence, a kind of couplet form originated from the Northern Song Dynasty. It is often performed in teahouses or streets by one person with one instrument, such as Pipa, hardwood clappers, and dulcimer. The form on the right is abstracted from the form of musical instruments.
Site Design
Shape Forming
According to the existing planning, the road will be opened along the red line of the base.
A reasonable tour path from the entr-ance to exit of the site is designed.
Business Hotel Residential area
The tour path should steer clear of original lush trees. The trees will not be damaged.
The main entrance is set at the entrance of Wenshu Fun.
The building should be designed with much efforts so as not to destroy the original lush trees as much as possible.
Population density distribution The number of people in the commercial district is less than that in residential area. Office logistics Main exhibition area
The ancient archite-ctural and traditional form, the courtyard house with a back and a front yard, is adopted to adapt to the surrounding environment.
Leisure area Existing trees
The main facades are the residential area and the entrance, and the office logistics are located on the back.

Sharing Box Design Abstraction This project is a design course for collection house, which i have participated in school. As a college student who is about to graduate, I want to design a collection house that suitable for young people. “Sharing”, “communication” and “integration of new and old” are the keywords of this project. In order to reduce the living cost for young people, the project considers that the rest of the space can be shared apart from the essential living space. It is their life as well as their working space. The house also provides comfortable space on the top floor for mature entrepreneurs. The communication platform also provides opportunities for investment and entrepreneurship cooperation between young and mature entrepreneurs. Site Analysis
The project site is located in the east of the most prosperous Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li commercial street in the center of Chengdu, where the traffic is convenient and the flow of people is large, meeting the entrepreneurial needs of young people and improving the vitality of the community. The original buildings of the site have exceeded their service life, so they are dangerous buildings to be demolished.
Live-action Photos
There is a Daci Temple opera performance community that elderly people like to visit around here. Taikoo Li commercial street is a combination of archaized building and modern commerce, where the night is still lively.
The office workers and entrepreneurs in the large office buildings nearby need the nearby residence for convenience, and they urgently need to expand the scope of interpersonal contacts to help their careers. Cultural architecture
However, around the site, there are many vibrant places, such as Youth Skateboarding Community, E-sports Center, Opera Performance Community, the most prosperous commercial center in Chengdu, and so on, which makes this area look even more out of place. Therefore, we want to build a vibrant community to meet the urgent needs of people.
Site Office & school buildings Commercial buildings Residential buildings
The residential area on the east side was built in the 1960s. It has not been repaired for many years and is dilapidated. Some places are even in danger of collapse. This area is enclosed by its surrounding walls, apart from that there are many tall buildings around it, which makes the area very poor in ventilation and lighting. At present, only a few elderly people still live here, but now the housing situation here will endanger the elderly people’s health.
