at Carle Foundation Hospital

The Buidling is located inside the Carle Hospital campus which is in the north of UIUC. The polytrauma rehabilitation center is especially designed for the veterans in the US. During the design process, we use the Evidence-Based-Design method (EBD) to guide our decisions. We benefit it in many aspects, including

how to zoning the site, how to design the patient rooms, and how to arrange the nurse stations, etc. Among them, the most important element we use is the idea of healing garden. It provides a natural space for both patients, medical staffs, and the patients' families to relieve from the depressed atmosphere in hospital. Five types of gardens are used, they are healing garden, enabling garden, meditative garden, rehabilitative garden, and restorative garden. Considering the further development of the Carle Hospital, we incorporate a research tower in our proposal.

Center of Japanese Architecture and Urbanism in Tokyo 11

02.Center Of Japanese Architecture and Urbanism Individual Work Tutor: Prof. Botond Bognar Time: 2014 Spring Type: Academic Location: Tokyo, Japan Japanese Architecture is one of the most prominent among contemporary practices today. Yet, apart from smaller galleries, there is no up-to date representative venue of the display of Japan’s tremendous recent progress in architecture area. Thus, the Center Of Japanese Architecture and Urbanism in Tokyo is dedicated to introduce and celebrate Japanese Architecture.

The complex is located in downtown Tokyo. As the gate of Omotesando, one of the most popular fashion streets in Tokyo, I envision this complex should serve as a landmark. Meanwhile, because of the good view near the site and the extremely expensive land price in Tokyo, I propose a tower on the site. The main function of the building includes exhibition, research center, book store and hotels. The site of the new Architecture Center is comprised of three parts, which means the site is disrupted by two small lanes, which are need to be kept as passage. It brings a big challenge for the architect to synthesize the complex. 12

LOCATION

The complex is located in downtown Tokyo, at the corner of Omotesando Street and Aoyama Dori Street. Omotesando is one of the most popular fashion streets in Tokyo. Many famous architects build their works in Omotesando, including Toyo Ito's TOD’S Omotesando Building, Tadao Ando's Omotesando Hills, SANNA's DIOR Omotesando, and the neighbor of the site is Kengo Kuma's One Omotesando. In the north of the site, there are two ancient palace, they're Minji Jingu and Togu Palace. These two palaces provide a good natural view to the site. In the south of the site, Shibuya, another popular street in Tokyo, is in a walkable distance. The buildings around the site are basically 8-9 stories high with high density. Om

SITE ANLYSIS

The site is located in Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. The weather is cold and wet in the winter, and very hot in the summer. So natural ventilation, light with shading, and enough outdoor space is very important for shaping a comfortable building. The challenge of the site is its orientation. The main entrance is located in the west, and the long end is west-east orientated. So I break up the volume into four pieces to get enough lighting from south.

East Lake

In the north-east of the site, there is a grove. In the south-west of the site, there’re several historical buildings, which are also very important functional buildings in campus. The main access is in the south of the site. Because of the surrounding environment, the site has really good view both in north side and south side.

Barcelona Urban Design 29

04.Barcelona Urban Design This project was completed in a team of two Tutor: Prof. Sara Bartumeus Time: 2013 Fall Type: Academic Location: Barcelona, Spain

The site is located in the northern part of Barcelona, in the Sant Andreu district. It is bounded by the Sant Andreu, Trinitat Vella, Bar贸 de Viver and Bon Pastor districts. Some of city's most important infrastructure projects are now under construction around this site, including the transformation of railway land in Sant Andreu and La Sagrera.

The project area is a triangular allotment that faces the new green zones, with a direct link to the Bar贸 de Viver residential district, the Bon Pastor industrial area and La Maquinista shopping mall. Proposals must make reference to the urban preconditions of the area, the different residential, business and industrial suburbs which, although built at different times, form a vibrant, inhabitable community with a good urban quality. Our project starts with the concept of corner. The site is not only at the corner of the city, but also the corner of the newly designed linear park. So we develop this concept in different scales, the urban scale, site scale, landscape scale and building scale.
