Autodesk (2002 to date)
Since purchasing Revit, Autodesk has developed three versions of Revit for the varying building y g g design disciplines: •Revit Architecture. •Revit Structure •Revit Structure. •Revit MEP.

Sundt Construction: Water Reclamation
If we compare this project to a comparable project using traditional 2D methods, we see a huge difference—84 percent fewer requests for information and more than 6,000 hours saved on concrete rework alone…On the Butler Water Reclamation Facility, there were no notable change orders.

Conceptual Massing Feature
Provides flexibility early in the design p process for users to express ideas and p create parametric massing families that can be integrated into building information modeling (BIM).
Starting by Reference points. You place reference points to design and plot lines splines and forms In the plot lines, splines, and forms. In the opposite example, 5 reference points have been placed to define the path of a spline.
Conceptual Massing Feature
Conceptual Massing Feature Plotting Lines from Reference Points. There are several methods to create splines Th l th d t t li that use driving reference points depending on the user’s requirements.
Conceptual Massing Feature Rehosting reference points. Once we talk about rehosting then it has to O t lk b t h ti th it h t be either a hosted point or a driving point.
Conceptual Massing Feature Rationalizing surfaces. YYou can divide a range of surfaces (planar, di id f f ( l ruled surfaces, revolved surfaces, and double‐curved surfaces) to rationalize the surface into parametric buildable f i t t i b ild bl components.
Conceptual Massing Feature Dividing a surface. Adjust the spacing of the divided surface on Adj t th i f th di id d f the Options Bar. If finer adjustments need to be made, open th F the Face Manager to adjust rotation and grid M t dj t t ti d id positioning.
Conceptual Massing Feature Modifying UV grids with face manager. The tool is used for modifying spaces Th t li df dif i between grids, rotating,…, etc.
Conceptual Massing Feature Patterning Surfaces. After a surface is divided, it can be Aft f i di id d it b patterned. Still part of the conceptual design phase of the project, this phase enables quick preview and editing of patterned i k i d diti f tt d surfaces.
Divided Surface
Applied Octagon Pattern
Conceptual Massing Feature Pattern Component Families. YYou can create flexible parametric t fl ibl ti components. These parametric components can be loaded into a conceptual mass family and applied to divided and patterned d li d t di id d d tt d surfaces to populate buildable architectural components across a large variety of geometric surfaces. When building a ti f Wh b ildi parametric component based on the Curtain Panel by Pattern template, you can apply the form‐making tools to create variety of h f ki l i f shapes.
Compatibility
Revit aims to be an all‐inclusive software, aims to be an all inclusive software yet remain non‐exclusive.
Compatibility • CAD formats: ADSK, DGN, DWF™, DWG™, DXF™, IFC, SAT, and SKP • Image formats: BMP, PNG, JPG, AVI, PAN, IVR, TGA, and TIF TGA, and TIF • Other formats: ODBC, HTML, TXT, MDB, XLS, FBX and gbXML FBX, and gbXML Third‐party plug‐ins are available for energy analysis and specification writing using Revit's export‐to‐ODBC functionality

Revit is truly bidirectional in that any is truly bidirectional in that any change to any object or any document view, including views on sheets ready to g y plot, is expressed in all documents and views. The program is very intuitive and has an easy initial learning curve.

With only 3‐4 month's experience, using REVIT I felt I could do things that "Gurus" REVIT, I felt I could do things that Gurus ArchiCAD users (with eight years experience or more) couldn't do. p )

Pros + Excellent tool for companies(schedules, merging etc) merging etc) + Drawing possible in any view + New abilities to draw more organic forms + Includes Accurender but is compatible with other 3D rendering software other 3D rendering software
