The pandemic has changed the way we interact and perceive the physical spaces around us as well as creating an increase in the need for virtual/augmented reality. Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds.

Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika was launched in 2010 by Shubhika Davda for people who effortlessly display a fierce urban sense of style, and are constantly experimenting and redefining their fashion boundaries. Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika was launched in 2010 by Shubhika Davda. It is a combination of three loves – music, drama and her papa (dad). The designer’s label, best known for its embellished pieces, quirky prints and sustainable accessories recently scored big with its win at the PETA India’s Vegan Fashion Awards 2020 (Best Vegan Shoes for Women). They use satin, PU, PVC, manmade silks, velvets and suede because these are the fabrics that can hold the embroidery and the embellishments that they put on their stilettoes.

Dressed in printed blazer + powder blue tulle lehenga & imma mermaid headband by Papa Don’t PreachFollowing are the three things that the brand can explore in terms of its product gap:
• Sneakers
• Sneaker heels
• Experimentation with the shape of the heel.
This is an image from the Instagram page of PAPA DON’T PREACH. It shows their garment. But they have styled it with a very clunky looking shoe (which is not their creation).
Footwear like this isn’t just overused as a trend but also, does not go with the brand’s aesthetic and style.
Which is why I came up with this product gap and category for their brand.
In my Indian brand research, I came across the footwear designer Rohan Arora, who posted these ‘Shaadi Sneakers’ on his Instagram page.
Just after that, I saw this post on the brand Alexander’s McQueen's Instagram page.
Both of these sneakers (shoes) are embroidered. There have been a few other instances as well in which I have witnessed embellished and or embroidered shoes/brands coming up.
My goal is to design Unisex Sneakers for Papa Don’t Preach. They have a strong online presence as well as a young influential consumer base. These people are the ones experimental and expressive with their fashion style. The sneakers would be kitschy, embellished with a pop of colour and have a touch of Indian Streetwear in them. Making them a fusion of Contemporary and Indian styles without the use of animal leather.
