The Yale Philharmonia, led by Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and joined by mezzo-soprano Kara Morgan ’24MMA, the Elm City Girls’ Choir, and the treble voices from the Yale Glee Club, opens its 2023-2024 concert season with a performance of Mahler’s colossal Third Symphony.

Guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero leads the orchestra in a performance of Lorin Maazel’s orchestral arrangement of Wagner’s epic Ring cycle, The Ring Without Words, whose “orchestration ... stands alone magnificently” (The New York Times).

Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian leads the orchestra in a performance of Valerie Coleman’s Umoja (Anthem of Unity), Adolphus Hailstork’s JFK: The Last Speech, and Joan Tower’s Concerto for Orchestra.

The orchestra, led by guest conductor Rossen Milanov, performs Smetana’s Overture to The Bartered Bride, Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto, with soloist Hyojin Shin ’22MM ’23MMA, and Shostakovich’s moody Sixth Symphony.
