8 Unsafe Buildings In Borivali, Mumbai, Are The Subject Of A BMC Notice Eight buildings in Borivali have received warnings from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), giving tenants seven days to leave their residences. Lakmi Niwas, Trilok Kripa CHS, Khan Mansion, Sheetal Chhaya building, Ram Nagar Trust buildings no. 1 and 2, Pitru Chhaya building no. 1, and Laxmi Niwas in Borivali West are among the eight structures. In April, it was deemed hazardous to occupy these buildings. After a four-story building in Borivali collapsed last week, this action is being done.

The inhabitants of the other wings of Geetanjali Nagar were given notice to leave after wing A of the building collapsed on August 19. In this occurrence, no known casualties were reported. The occupants have hired a contractor to tear down wings B2 and B3 after the BMC demolished wing B1 on August 20. The BMC cut off the water and electricity to these structures. A couple of the building's inhabitants have filed a lawsuit in the High Court to contest the notification. Buildings older than 33 years are divided into three categories by the BMC: C1, C2, and C3, which refer to structures that can be rehabilitated to last for a few more years. C1 refers to structures that must be removed. Nivrutti Gondhali, assistant municipal commissioner (R central ward), was quoted as saying in an HT report: "It is mandatory for the corporation to notify secretary and

chairman to submit a structural audit report. We informed each member & requested that they offer any recommendations or objections within seven days. Many times, societies provide an audit report certifying the safety of their structure for human habitation. When there are two conflicting audit results, the BMC frequently refers the issue to a technical advisory committee (TAC), which determines the building's category. A building is demolished as soon as it is vacated if it is classified as C1 and the residents don't complain. "An area certificate is also granted to the occupier, flat owners, or renters for specific areas to be required from the developer," said Dharmendra Kantharia, executive engineer, R (centra) ward. After that, demolition has a seven-day window. The tenants are required to find alternative housing on their own in private structures. In municipal schools, we make plans for transitional housing.
